Great Vet.
Dr. Oweis is a very professional and good Vet. He is patient in answering questions about your pet and he is an excellent surgeon. The facility is not state of the art, but the care and treatment of the patients is good. I worked there for a year and personally walked, fed and cared for all of the boarders. I cleaned the kennels and washed dogs. All of the boarders and patients were monitored closely. The rates for service are much less expensive than the local competition because Dr. Oweis has a lower overhead in not having a brand new facility. Dr. Oweis has a small staff that is trained in multitasking. I do not know of a vet hospital that lets clients owners take a tour of the facility. First of all, we try to keep the the boarding dogs comfortable in a safe setting that is not disrupted by strangers walking through. The patients are vulnerable and recuperating and again, foreigners walking through recovery does not aid in keeping a safe and clinical atmosphere. The animals have varying temperaments especially while recovering from surgery and the less disruption, the better. We do not want to put them in a position of defending themselves from strangers while they are healing. The hospital has it's own food and it is difficult to take 'special orders" for feeding. They are fed a nutritional, balanced diet which is rather bland due to the fact that most animals are a little nervous in a strange setting and this diet aids in avoiding an upset stomach. Most of the staff here are college students who are working their first job. All staff is part time. The doctor is available by phone at any time. I learned so much about the care of cats and dogs while I was there and Dr. Owies taught me so many wonderful things about animal behavior and preventative therapy. He is very talented and his care of your pet is his primary concern.
If you want good care for your pet at a reasonable price, I would recommend The Beltway Animal Hospital in Catonsville.
Animal Lab. It was Thanksgiving weekend and no other place had room so I left my cat here. The facilities, or lack of, looked very skeptical. It's an old house that looks like an animal testing lab. When you walk in, you are greeted by a man through a small window in the door. You cannot see anything that's going on inside. When you drop your cat off, they close them up in a backpack (okay), but you never see any other animals or where they are putting yours. They did not answer our questions satisfactorily. We left a container of food with him, but when we picked him up... it didn't look like much food was gone and he looked skinnier. When we grabbed a hold of him, he smelt like urine. Employees were not friendly. I would not recommend leaving your pet here, he's better off in the wild. I regret leaving my cat here.
