General Care – I took my 2 cats for some general care...
3 vaccines & nose drop vaccine each (8 vaccines total) + one received treatment for tape worm.
Chui also had some bumps which the doctor diagnosed to be an allergic reaction on it's way out - no sign of fever.
I never got the Doctors name. He was an older fellow with white hair and what I suspect was a light French accent (despite his accent, he was easy to understand). Most important, his manner with my cats was gentle & pleasant. Neither reacted to the any of the shots. And the way he administered the nose drops was sneaky - they didn't know what was coming and it was over before they did. Both my cats seem to forgive me as soon as they were home.
The bill for everything came to $215, which I felt was reasonable.
Great Care at Excellent Prices – Dr. Filipescu has been taking care of our 14 yr. old dog Lucy for four years. He is devoted to her care and every time she has had a problem, he has known exactly what to do. Recently, he performed surgery on her to remove a grapefruit-sized tumor from her chest. He came in early on a Saturday to do this. She came through with flying colors due to his expertise. Her post-operative care has been superb. The doctor explained everything to us, and while his English is not the best, if one is patient and asks questions, one will get all the necessary information. The front office is kind and caring, and the place is spotless. Dr. F's rates are much less that those of other vets who are not as attentive or available. His asst. is a deaf man who loves animals. You cannot go wrong taking your pet to Echo Park Animal Hospital. Lucy is never afraid going in there, as she was at our other vet. Thank you, EPAH!!!
wonderful – My cat got very sick all of a sudden and I took her to Echo Park Animal Hospital. Dr. Filipescu was so generous and kind and caring. He kept her for two days, overnight, free of charge, to keep her under his observation because she was very sick and deteriorating rapidly. He gave her antibiotic shots and pain shots and fed her wet food, vitamins, and water from a syringe every four hours to make sure she got nutrients and hydration when she couldn't eat or drink water. I ultimately had to put her to sleep because she kept getting worse and wasn't responding to antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatment. Dr. Filipescu let me stay with her as long as I wanted during the euthanasia and was very sweet to me after it was over and I was upset. He even called me a few days later when test results came in to give me more information about what made my cat sick even though she had already passed away. He is knowledgeable and knows what he is doing. I took my cat to another vet in between visits to Echo Park Animal Hospital and the other vet basically gave me the same information I got from Dr. F and the same recommendations on how to proceed with her symptoms. I had no problems communicating with Dr. F, he answered all my questions -- and believe me I had tons of them. Overall, he obviously cares very much about the animals and about their owners too. Plus, all the treatment he gave my cat over the course of three days amounted to $264. He didn't even charge me for the euthenasia. Anybody who thinks he is doing this for the money is just wrong.
Thumbs down! – I don't understand how this Vet got his license! I took in my new born Chihuahua who was accidentaly bitten my her mother and made a whole on his tummy. I rushed my pup to Echo Park Vet and was told their was nothing they can do but wait for it to die! I was in total disapointment. I was able to do a home remedy at home and managed to close his tummy 80% still worried and had no where else to go I went back they stitched my puppy up and his stitches popped out again this went on 3 times...until finally the Doctor said not to come back that he wasn't able to help him out! I felt helpless and with my pup in my hand and his tummy open again....felt devastated....long story short I Managed to rush my pup to another Vet in Los Angeles by Florence and Alameda! Where my pup stayed for 2 weeks and a half got the treatment he needes, The Doctor was very caring kept in touch with me at all times caled me to keep me updated and they only charged me 200. It was a blessing now my dog Pablo is a Happy Chihuahua. But overall please don't take your dog to Echo Park not unless you want you family member dead!
EXPREIENCE VET FOR A CHEAP PRICE!!! – I have to say this is a great place!!! Old fashion doctor that knows what's wrong with your pet. Very cheap for his experience. I took my dog patches who needed to get stitches remove from getting her fixed from another vet....who did even notice that she was sick on her check up. This doctor immediately took her and told me that she had a fever. He gave her a shot and set me home with medication. Took him less then 5 min. I will be going back to his office
THANK YOU ...THANK YOU
AWFUL!!!! This place doesn't deserve a star, except with the exception that the receptionist was really nice. The "doctor" did not even read the sheet the nurse wrote describing why my pet was there. Then he argued with me and wouldn't even listen to my concern. Then he tried to sell me another procedure, completely unrelated! I was so frustrated that I got up to leave, then he told me that I would still have to pay for a visit, even though he didn't even examine or touch my pet! This place is obviously only out to make money w/o any real concern for taking care of animals.
Simply Unprofessional – One word review would be unprofessional. The Doctor has no passion for animals, and simply mumbles half english about whats wrong. My dog had an analgland swell up and he immediately squeezed it open and my dog screamed in pain dripping blod, BEFORE he told me what was wrong or what my options were.
I grabbed my dog out of his hands and walked out. The receptionist lady takes personal calls on her cell phone while I've been at the counter.
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.
When all else failed – I had a large adult dog who needed to be fixed. It was a difficult procedure due to her size. I live a good distance from Echo Park so tried other vets first. None would service me. Echo Park animal hospital was the only place that would do the job. They had the competence and the compassion and remembered me and my dog for years afterwards. I read the other reviews and all I can say is that these the vets and staff did everything they could to give my dog top quality health care. No frills, just basic competent care. I personally had a great experience with them.
Go somewhere else! – We'd taken our dog here several times for basic needs. But, when our dog had a serious problem, this vet completely failed us.
We brought our dog in when she was lethargic, feverish... We thought it was because she had eaten some onions, which can be toxic. The vet did an X-ray and said that her liver was extremely enlarged. He prescribed antibiotics for the fever and told us to change her dog food. When the symptoms persisted, we went to another vet. They X-ray'd her again and the large mass that this vet thought was an enlarged liver was actually a cantaloupe-sized tumor. Fortunately we caught it before it ruptured.
Don't trust a vet who can't read an X-ray!
Old-Fashioned Caring Reasonable Vet – I've been taking my pets to the Echo Park Animal Hospital for many many decades. The staff has always treated my cats -- decades ago, my dog -- with tender loving care. I cannot understand some of the poor reviews -- perhaps they're the young 30-something yuppies who've moved to Echo Park from the West Side or Valley? They're used to high prices and fancy-dancy facades.
No -- the Echo Park Animal Hospital is not fancy-dancy. It's down and basic, reasonably priced and I have never had a bad experience since living in Echo Park since 1966. I just brought my cat in because of a cut on her back. Dr. Moisa Filipescu examined her thoroughly, explained to me that it wasn't serious, but applied iodine and another cream to the cut. He was very friendly and seemed to really love cats. I was charged $25.00 for the exam and treatment. Not bad!
There's convenient parking on the side street and the back parking lot. The place is very clean and the staff is warm and friendly. I wouldn't go anywhere else. It's a truly Native Echo Parkian place -- certainly not for rich yuppie invaders!
