Sy Thai...MSG food.
Sorry to give this poor rating. Since I am travelling a lot (international), I am relying on all the good fellows who take their time to rate local restaurants... and I never had a bad experience ... since today.
I was there Monday evening and Sy Thai was kind of crowded (7pm) - which is good. Friendly service though.
Ordered a Tum Ka Ghai (soup with chicken) and a "Pattoni" with Tofu. To make a long story short: Food was prepared with fresh ingredits, like carrots, sprouts, chicken, etc. When the soup came, I was first thinking about a bad joke. That was a horrible MSG broth - no doubt about it, which was confirmed by one of the waiter/waitress whom I asked. The "Pattoni", which came with a red curry sauce had the same strong taste and since I ordered it medium spicy, I still could taste the artifical flavours. For sure we are eating more crap then we are in most cases aware of, but I dont think we should excess this on purpose.
If you like MSG (or have no clue about it), go there ! If you cant remember one day, dont sue me. Sy Thai is a definite no go again - at least for me.

Best Thai in the Area.
A variety of delicious Thai dishes in a great setting for a reasonable price. Can't be beat.
Try the Von Sen.

My Favorite Local Thai Restaurant.
Simply put, the best Thai food around. Their fresh rolls are the best I've had, and I've enjoyed all of the dishes I've sampled there. They use fresh, crunchy vegetables, are great with tofu, and seem to serve the dishes with less grease than I've encountered at other Thai restaurants. The only bummer is that it's really hard to find a parking place, which makes carry out a real bother. Other than that, really great spot.

BEST THAI FOOD IN METRO DETROIT.
Pad Thai is my all time favorite dish.... I have tried it at almost every restuarant in the Troy, Bham, Royal Oak area and SY THAI IS SOOOO GOOD... they put alot of egg in it ! and the cook has the flavor down to perfection. A++++++

Take-Out Service is horrible! Management needs to improve. Great food though..
Sy Thai Cafe serves great food. Our office is close to Birmingham and regularly orders carry-out from them all the time. Recently, we placed a 7 meal carry out order for a business luncheon at 11:45 before the lunch rush and they forgot to include 2 of the 7 orders. When we called to complain, the staff was very indifferent and their best reply is 'can you come back and pick it up?' They did not offer to rectify the situation by comping us. Two people went without lunch during our meeting.
Dining in once, small bones were found in the chicken. They said they had a new poultry provider and were only willing to take 10% off of the bill. Again, not very endearing to the customer.
Overall, the food is great, but the service really brings the whole experience down. Food is half the equation and service is the other half. The only reason why I go back is because of the food, otherwise, I would never patronize this place again.

A Standout.
In the vast sea of Metro Detroit Thai restaurants, this one really stands out. The decor is much more chic and upscale than usual (owing to its Birmingham location, I suppose), the service is friendly and fast, and the food is really, really delicious. I highly recommend both the massaman curry, as well as the curry noodles (which are a special treat because most Thai places don't offer them). Yum!

excellent!.
I was initially introduced to this restaurant by co-workers, and i loved it so much that i introduced it to all my friends. they all fell in love with the food here as well. the food is reasonably priced and best of all, the meat is real meat! it's not the imitation/chewy/suspect meat you find at some restaurants.
i highly recommend this restaurant!

This is Thai food the way it's meant to be--a sophisticated fusion of Indian, Chinese and Malaysian influences..
In Short
Simple but attractive, with quilted elephant pictures on the walls. The flavor mix is complex, indicating that someone in the kitchen is taking lots of care. All the traditional dishes, from tom yum to pad Thai, with four versions of duck. Note: The "medium" spice level is mild, so adjust accordingly. Drunken noodles, made with Thai brandy. Prik khing, curried stir-fried green beans. Tom yum, the shrimp version, delicate and tasting whole-heartedly of the sea. Neau Tod, marinated beef with ginger-vinegar sauce. Banana cake, rice steamed with coconut milk in a banana leaf.
