This hamburger time machine serves some of the smallest, tenderest, most perfect burgers you'll ever see. Don't mistake them for sliders: this is what the hamburger looked like in 1940, and perhaps is the dish's platonic ideal.
Awesome Burgers. You drive by and see a little dive on the corner of Woodward. It is strange because you see that Mercedes parked next to an old pickup. You peek in and see a couple in formal attire sittng next to a young couple on date night. All of them are savoring the unique taste of Hunter House Burgers. They are never premaid. Always fresh and cooked to your specifications. These are not Jumbo burgers, they are normal sized. If you have a taste for a real burger, Hunter House is the place to go!
A real burger no-brainer!!!. I grew up just north of the Hunter House, but spent plenty of time at my grandparents(less than a mile away from the Hunter House) and let me tell you, it never gets old. One review on this page says that it is not romantic? Since when has the burger had to be romantic! 50 years ago, people would chow on these delectable morsels, with greasy hands after drag racing down Woodward Avenue...and I like to think that same atmosphere prevails today. My only problem with the hunter house is that I can't help but to over eat everytime I go there. The take out window is completely seperate from the dining room, so it cuts down on the congestion, and being walking distance from downtown...you can't put a price on it's location. Do yourself a favor next time you are in Metro-Detroit, and stop into the Hunter House, you will be glad you did.
Burges are king!.
I GREW UP ON THESE BURGERS. NOW THAT I'M AWAY I STOP IN HERE
WHENEVER I'M IN TOWN. DON'T SWEAT THE DETAILS, THIS PLACE IS RIGHT OUT OF THE 60'S.
DOUBLE BURGER HOLD THE CHEESE. FRIES ARE GREAT AND VIEW OF WOODWARD AVENUE
IS CLASSIC. EASY ON POCKETBOOK. BEATS THE CHIEF BURGER DOWN THE ROAD.
Birmingham's favorite stop for burgers and shakes after late-night cruising..
In Short
Bobby socks are optional, but cheap eats with a retro groove are mandatory at this area favorite. The interior is a tribute to car cruises, with a 1950s gas pump and parking meter. The silver countertop and Pepsi memorabilia add splashes of color to the black-and-white interior. The jukebox swings with Jimmy Dorsey, as well as the Talking Heads. Besides cheap hamburgers, early risers are treated to a complete breakfast for less than five bucks.
Really amazing. For the location its amazingly cheap, and about 10 times better than white castle. If you dont think so try it, the double cheese is the only way to go.
