Do NOT eat at the Clawson Steakhouse. The decor isn't 'throwback', it's out of date (80's anyone?) and not kept up. There is a difference. The bar selection is horrible. They do not carry anything popular or new- even if you ask them to bring something in. The clientele are in their mid 60's and the bar selection reflects that. It would be cheaper for you to go to your Grandfathers basement bar and drink his Canadian Club- that is the equivalent of their selection of liquor and beer. As for the food- Ponderosa is just as edible and far cheaper. Oh and did I mention that the service is horrible? And the Owners do not care about making anything right. In conclusion- if you want crappy food, crappy drinks and crappy service then go ahead & eat here! I on the other hand will be enjoying REAL food and atmosphere elsewhere.
This place looks, feels and tastes like a great steak restaurant. There was no two drink minimum and I was not charged for my glass of water. It is several steps above an Outback Restaurant for about the same price. The dinner meal includes a small soup, salad and a side plus and a great tasting steak. I really love the vintage Red Caddy they had out in front of the restaurant.
Review.
There is a two drink minimum at the Clawson steak house; with a charge for water. More like a bar with food, than a restaurant.
No prime rib as listed on the menu. Service was extremely poor, and not very friendly.
Good food, friendly and upbeat service, entertaining live crooning.
Boy, the other reviewers were not kidding about the over 40 crowd. I felt like they should have written over 60 though. We went on a weekday and it was not full. We got seated immediately in a comfortable booth and our server was very upbeat. The food choices were good. I felt like it was not too overwhelming, once you could narrow down if you wanted beef, pork, seafood or pasta.
I was pleased with our choice of the restaurant, until our food came. I was expecting something that would "wow" me at least a little. what we got was OK, but nothing to rave about. Though the meat was very tender, that's what you expect when you're paying $20 for ONE piece of it. I don't think I will return here, as my chances of getting food at the same value elsewhere are abundant.
Still, it was a pleasant evening and the entertainment certainly made us smile (Frank Sinatra and Elvis were on the menu there).
Clawsons Best Kept Secret.. Excellent Food, Service and atmostphere. A wonderful evening out. The Filets are perfectly cooked and lambchops were great. Wonderful band, great place to meet for an evening with friends. Extensive wine list. Highly recommend!
Great Service, Great Classic Food, Great Entertainment for the over 40 crowd. I've been going here for 15 years and have never had a bad meal. The owner is active with the customers, seeking input and assurance that everything was fine. The food is always cooked to order and the staff is some of the best in town. The entertainment is mellow, usually something more pleasing to the over 40 crowd, not too rowdy, great "first date to impress" type of place, and if things work out, great for dates with your significant other for years to come.
Good at everything from Lamb Chops to Fried Shrimp.... This is one of those lovely little hidden gems - a nice restaurant with a menu to meet everyone's tastes along with a live band that plays good old fashioned romantic music...dinner and dancing and almost impossible find these days...if you're celebrating an occasion or just want to put her in the right mood - this is the place to go...never had a bad meal - service is always prompt and courteous...highly recommended
Little Known Treasure.
This restaurant knows how to cook a steak. Picture a 3 to 4 inch high filet mignon cooked perfectly with a beautiful sweet outside and a tender pink (or your doneness of choice) inside; topped with a delicious sauce and this is one perfect filet.
Their NY strip and prime rib are out of this world as well, but their filet, almost inexplicable.
