A great way to spend an afternoon with desert views.
Adventurous or romantic, your choice. Either way, you're going to get the best view of the entire desert from 6,000 feet up. Enjoy a stunning ride on the tramway - some of you might need to hold on tight. Don't miss: take a hike around Mount Jacinto State Park.
Hand dinner there and I saw a rodent in the restaurant. When I told one of the servers he looked at like yeah we know whats the big deal. Oh I forgot they rushed us.
Beautiful – It is a nice thing to do when you are out in that area. The tram takes you up the mountain and the temperature drops significantly when you get to the top and I went in the middle of summer you know how hot it can be in Palm Springs. Nice view from the top, fresh air. It's fun just to go up there and take a hike.
Catch cool breezes and spectacular views on this vertical mountain journey. – The Background
One especially hot desert day in the late 1930s, electrical engineer Francis F. Crocker looked up at the surrounding snow-capped mountains and wished he could be where it was "nice and cool." In 1963, Crocker's dream became reality when the first passenger-carrying tram traveled up more than 12,000 feet of cable to reach the top of Mt. San Jacinto. In 2000, the trams were updated with two fully modernized 80-passenger cars.
The trams make two full rotations during the 15-minute journey offering stunning views of the Sonora desert as well as jagged mountain landscapes. Upon arrival at the top of the tram, passengers can visit the gift shop, the observation deck or dine at the casual Lookout Lounge, or upscale Peaks Restaurant. Nature lovers will want to explore the surrounding San Jacinto State Park with miles of hiking trails and nature walks, modernized campgrounds and various snow activities available during the winter months.
Thrilling – I'm a Palm Springs native and have been on the tram at least 20 times. The ride is exciting, the views incredible, and the hiking and cross-country skiing at the top are awesome. You can find easy, moderate, and difficult hikes. Bring a picnic, you camera, and plan to hang out for the day. In the winter it's fun just to go up to play in the snow.
Best? Nice view but – Facilities are old, the service is non existent, the prices are high and the food is on calibre with 1970's football or baseball stadium food. For view, it is fine. For food, please. The owner is cheap and unwilling to invest in making this the superior destination spot it could be. For romance, try La Valleuris or Shame on the Moon.
summer salvation – on move-in day, it was 110 degrees and our condo wasn't ready...we were dying! we hopped on the tram and the trip saved the day. we had fun, rested, ate, and when we returned, our condo was ready, and we were refreshed enough to move in...all done by bedtime! thanks, tram!
WOW!!! – THIS PLACE WAS SPACTACULAR!!!!
The views were glorious, breathtaking. If you're afraid of hights close your eyes on the way up to the top. Plan a picnic day, and have a family outing. My wife and I went up early January, ant there was still plenty of snow... Tickets are about $20.00 Kind of pricey.. However you can get a discount through AAA.
