In Short
A low-key, friendly environment attracts plenty of families to this reliable chain. Kids in the big booths--often clutching free balloons and crayons--usually outnumber adults sitting at the bar. The menu offers filling American fare with no surprises, from mozzarella sticks and nachos to rollups and burgers. Entrees include steaks, fajitas and main dish salads. The calorie-conscious can select from a list of Weight Watchers-inspired dishes like mesquite chicken salad and grilled tilapia with mango salsa.

Applebee's is losing it charm. This Applebee's on Gratiot has very good food, and excellent service, but falls down on the job when it comes a comfortable atmosphere to eat your food in. Their non smoking area is non existent, since the cigarette smoke travels everywhere. I called the manager of the restaurant to only have him say "call the main offices". I did call the corporate offices of Applebee's to comment on this restaurant, and I experienced a very lame and condescending response from their Guest Relations guy named Peter. I have always enjoyed Applebee's good food and service, but that might change very soon. It too bad now that Applebee's is put corporate greed in the way of good customer service.
