we sent my parents there for a birthday - first occasion was fabulous, shrimp cocktail, lobster tail -they has such a great date, spent $120 for 2 but thought it was worth the money. It was so good that they went back for the same meal - WHAT a DISASTER!! The lobster tails were so tough that they could not eat them. It was obvious that the fresh lobster had not been sold so they were cooked prior and reheated. The food was left on their plates but the waitress never asked what the problem was - obviously there was one. They paid the bill and left. We emailed the owners but never got a response. The sad thing is my parents are 90 and 94 years old and live very close - we were looking forward to many more gift cards. We celebrated their 70th anniversary and took the group of 20 to a different restaurant that lobster was great. The wait staff need to know that elderly people do not complain and Mr Pauls should not serve reheated lobster to anyone, even the elderly.
This is one of the best restaurants on the east side, I enjoy it for dinner and lunch. It might take a little longer to get seated but that is a sign of a great restaurant.
Best Lunch in town. Lunch time specials are FANTASTIC! Quality and quantity at a reasonable cost - unheard of in today's market!
HORRIBLE!!!!. Have been here several times..always made a reservation...rarely seated at time of reservation. Today I called to make a reservation for a week from now, (party of 4), and was told they don't take reservations unless you have a party of six. I said that was contrary to what the website says....and was told that this has ALWAYS been their policy .....I said that we have always made reservations, and was very rudely told that "this is our company policy. If you do not like it, you are free to go somewhere else". If they are this horrible on the phone, I can only imagine how horrible they are in person!!!!! I wanted to give zero stars, but not able to give zero, so chose one.
Best Restaurant on the East Side.
I lived 2 miles from Mr. Paul's. I used to eat lunch and/or dinner there frequently. I was fortunate enough to get to know the owner's/staff a little. The food was always great, the service outstanding and the atmosphere unbeatable. I had many romantic dinners there.
It took me ten years of carefully watching (and asking questions) the tableside Caesar Salad being made before I finally created a credible home version. Lady friends whom I cooked for loved it.
The steaks were very good, maybe not the best...the old Lelli's Restaurant fillet was my favorite. But the Caesar Salad is the best I've ever had. It's the standard by which I judge all others.
I moved back to Florida two years ago, Mr. Paul's is one of the things I truly miss about Michigan. Whenever I'm back to visit, Mr. Paul's is a must stop for me!
Best Steak Ever!. This was by far the best prime rib i have ever eaten. I have been coming to mr pauls now for about 5 years. Every time i go back i get the prime rib because its so great. it melts in your mouth its so good. I will probably get the prime rib each and every time i go back because i cant imagine going there and getting something else. The staff have always been really nice and friendly to us. We never had to wait if we had reservations. We also got the cherries jubilee for dessert, which they make right at your table, and that was excellent from what i could taste of it. i would recommend mr pauls to anyone that dares to have a great steak!
Don't waste your time.. Based on the reviews here I had been looking forward to checking this place out for a while. We had reservations, they took so long to seat us that another couple in our party had to go home, finally got our table about and hour and a half after our scheduled reservation. Had to cancel plans for the rest of the evening. The Ceasar was good, as for the steaks I can make a better fillet at home. Chateaubriand was ordered medium-rare, came medium-well to well done. Due to my job, I have to eat at some of the top restaurants in metro-Detroit. Now I know can see why one of our functions has never been held here, this place simply could not qualify. If you are craving a great steak, don't waste your time here. Ruth's Chris, Cameron's, Capital Grille, Rochester Chophouse, Big Rock are all better than this place.
Great Food!!. One of my favorties!! From the table side ceaser salad to the Steaks to the personal attention from the Pauls themselves!! You will love it!!
The exquisite cuisine has made a reputation for itself at this classic suburban chophouse..
In Short
Mr. Paul's Chophouse has been serving guests for more than 30 years, and its reputation is second to none. Prepared at the table, the Caesar is the perfect beginning to the meal, while steamed mussels highlight the appetizers. The menu gives patrons plenty of variety, but the filet mignon steals the show. For seafood lovers, the broiled lobster tail is well worth the cost.
The Best in Town. I have enjoyed lunch or dinner at Mr. Pauls for over 20 years. The food has always been excellent, the service outstanding and the ambiance second to none. Whether you are going for a buisness lunch or romantic evening you won't be disappointed. I took my daughter there for lunch when she was 15, she said the steak was the best she ever had. She is 31 now and still stands by her statement.
