Tips for Salvation Army Thrift Store

March 15, 2013

I have been to this store on several occasions and leave fuming every time. The concept of the store is a good idea and I agree that the expensive designer merchandise in a "boutique" Salvation Army should be priced slightly higher than a regular SA. With that said.. .I'm not sure what idiot has allowed the pricing in this store. One way or another these pieces are USED. So to find a Dolce & Gabbana skirt suit (that is a few years old) being sold in used condition for $800.00 - I come a bit unglued! There were numerous pieces priced in the hundreds when it should have been in the tens. This suit was also not a rarity in this store. They had plenty of designer merchandise however when a vintage (meaning older than dirt!) St. John plain tank top is priced at $80 there is an issue with pricing. Used shoes are another issue at this location.. used Salvatore Ferragamo shoes from the 80's priced at $100 is obscene. I also found a pair of men's Johnston and Murphy very used loafers for $60 as well as a pair of ladies used Merril sandals for $16 (which you can find new at TJ Maxx for less). I can honestly go on and on an on about how over priced this store is.

I get that this is a charity store; however this is simply greed that is driving a thrift store to price in this manner. One way or the other this is a thrift store and it is selling used (and not gently) clothing - know your role.

Stocked exclusively with donated goods, thrift store contributes all earnings to Bible-based rehab programs throughout the world.. In Short
The Salvation Army is an evangelical Christian organization that devotes billions of dollars and thousands of volunteer hours each year to disaster relief, social services and other charitable causes worldwide. With proceeds going directly to adult rehabilitation centers, the Army's many thrift stores play an important role in furthering the organization's mission. Patrons of the stores pick through a diverse selection of moderately worn clothing, as well as second-hand furniture, electronics, books and toys at bargain prices.
