Delicious! I don't usually eat Thai,
but when I do, I eat Thai Cafe.
Their 'Tofu with String Beans', with eggplant garlic and basil, has to be the best Thai dish I have ever eaten. I will drive out of my way, pass dozens of other Thai restaurants, simply to indulge in this incredible delicacy. The food presentation is welcoming and appealing. The wait staff is friendly and refreshing--and the atmosphere is warm and modern, even though the restaurant is on the small side. To top it off, their Tom Yum soup is phenomenal--packed full of flavor and topped off with fresh cut mushrooms, scallions and tomatoes. The extra care they take to make their food stand out from the hundreds of other Thai restaurants in the area really shines through with every bite.
Thai Cafe is also vegan friendly; their menu containing plenty of vegan and vegetarian options throughout. Highly recommended!
Best Thai Food in the area. The green bean/tofu dish is excellent. Such a great flavor. The S8 fried catfish curry is amazing, but only get it if your dining in - it takes a while too, so be patient. It's worth it. My husband and I love Thai food and most other places give us upset stomachs because of whatever additives they use. This place never disappoints - except! - often they are out of fresh rolls and I don't really understand this.
Bad reviewers are crazy, it's the best. I have no idea what people are thinking with the bad reviews. My husband and I have been going to Thai Cafe for years and it's amazing. Everyone we've taken there also loves it. The staff is quick and friendly, prices are reasonable and portions are large. I've been to thailand and I still find this food delicious!
Over Priced and Terrible Service....
So i went in to order what i get at every other thai restaurant. Pad Ped. It was terrible food for the price. I paid almost $10 for a small dish that had poor taste. Service was sparingly, and friends of the workers were coming in and out, making jokes, being loud, etc.
I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Everything tastes sweet.
I have eaten at Thai Cafe once and NEVER again. Everything we ordered tasted like they had dumped sugar in it, the tom yam soup (!!!) was sweet, as was the Massaman Curry and the Chicken satay. In fact, I will venture to suggest the peanut sauce i got for the satay was a jelly they squeezed from a bottle. It was really nasty.
I have not been disappointed like this for a long time. The prices are cheap, but honestly, I am being nice when i write: yuck.
Best Thai food you will ever eat!. I've been going to this place for about 12 years now and it never fails me! Great prices; food is ready fast; the waitress has been the same and she is the cutest thing! If you like the type of places that are random and that you'd never expect to be so amazing, this is the place to go. The restaurant has white walls with turquois and purple dots on the wall and it's kind of "underground". Anyone who gave this place a bad review undoubtedly has no taste in Thai food. I've been to almost every restaurant in the area and this place is delicious!
A real disappointment.
While staying in Southfield, I selected Thai Cafe based on its five 5-star ratings in Google Maps. I don't normally criticize others' reviews, but the food was so disappointing I have to wonder whether the other reviewers have ever eaten reasonably authentic Thai food before.
First the good: The location is convenient and the atmosphere is pretty cool - clean, not too many tables, outside/sidewalk seating available (I sat outside). The service was attentive and the cashier/owner seemed genuinely concerned when I told her my meal was just "ok" (I was being generous).
Now the bad: I perused the extensive menu for probably 10 minutes and struggled to find something I thought had a significant chance of being reasonably authentic. The menu is chock-full of Americanized Chinese stir fries (neither Thai nor Chinese food uses a lot of water chestnuts, baby corn, or broccoli, people!) posing as Thai food. I selected a yellow curry with squid. The food was delivered reasonably promptly, given the brisk take-out business that this shop does, and was piping hot. The amount of food was substantial, but that turned out to be a mixed blessing. Although the potatoes and white onions (in a yellow curry??) were fresh and nicely cooked, the peas and carrots were obviously poured from a bag of frozen mixed vegetables. I was shocked. The squid was overcooked and cut into the lacerated rectangles normally associated with Chinese cooking rather than the rings that I expected. (They didn't include the tentacles either - my favorite part.) I had asked for "extra hot" only to discover that, at Thai Cafe, this means "dump a lot of crushed red chilli on the dish". I normally order Thai food "Thai spicy" and am usually pleased with the hotness, but this was too much: I couldn't taste anything but the chilli. Really disappointing.
Thai Cafe perhaps IS the best Thai food in the area. If so, you'd be well-advised to select a different cuisine.
Best Thai on Royal Oak. Having tried several Thai places in Royal Oak, this is the only place that doesn't make me gag. The food here is consistent and has wonderful value. I've never paid more than $7-9 per person and the portions are huge. My fiancee and I go there probably twice a month and always go with the Pad Thai chicken and Gang Kew Warn with steamed tofu. We've also tried the Drunken Noodles. They were pretty good too, but we went back to the Pad Thai. Eat here if you want Thai, or else suffer the consequences (gastrointestinally).
Best in town. I live about 1/2 mile from Thai cafe and eat there (carryout or dine-in) about every two weeks. I have never been dissapointed. Excellent food and much more important excellent service, very speedy for takeout. They have never failed to have my food prepared promptly. Thank you Thai Cafe!
WOW!. This place was so good. I enjoyed the druken noodles the best. The Pad Thai is definitely one of the best in town. This is place is a must for those who seek good Thai food.
