I have walked pass the salon door at the corner of 4th and Washington a hundred times and never given it a second thought until my regular stylist moved here from her previous job at the Douglas J Salon in Ann Arbor.

Up a flight of stairs and into a very nice salon on the second floor with a waiting room guarded by the two resident house cats. A very homey feel rather then the shiny chrome and glass of some other places.

Prices are very reasonable and I am not sure if the other stylist's include as part of their service, but Sandra starts off with a great head and shoulder massage, a shampoo , the haircut , then another shampoo and then a conditioner, all Aveda products.

My daughter with her long blond hair also sees Sandra for her cut, highlights and special occasion Up Do's and Perm's

A very nice salon with our favorite hair stylist , Sandra Dee... will return !

Royal Oak's Best Hair Stylist. I love Katie from Upstares Salon. She taught me how to easily work my very curly hair into sleek, sexy, straight hair! I can get the look at home with not a ton of effort! Woohoo!

She is a great colorist. I was in a bit of a rut with my style and color and now have a fab look!

Upstares is an Aveda concept salon. Smells yummy from product the minute you ascend the stairs (2nd floor). Very unassuming salon, cozy decor, not stand offish employees, yet chic and arty. Cool Sirius music played too.

Plus, I love 'Hannah' the cat.

Best salon in Royal Oak. I have been going to the UpStares Salon for about 5 years. My stylist is Marianne - she is the best stylist I've ever had. I am in the fortunate position to be able to afford have my hair done where ever I choose. Before finding Marianne I tried several salons in Royal Oak and the surrounding areas - many were much pricer then the UpStares salon - non compared with the excellent cut/highlights/eyebrow wax that Marianne provides. The prices at the Salon are quite affordable too. I can not say enough about this excellent salon - is is a small gem hidden on the second floor of a building in downtown Royal Oak.
