Too Crowded and Too Expensive.. Too Crowded and Too Expensive. Overrated food for the price and definitely not worth the wait!
Red Coat Rocks!. I and all my friends and family love this place! Next Friday I am meeting Up North Kelly there for lunch! I can't wait to have the Piedmontese burger with mushrooms, burnt onions and a cold brew to wash it down! The dark red interior is epic!
Sorry I didn't order those rings!. Went for lunch there yesterday for the first time. After reading reviews was a little concerned there would be a wait (always a long wait per other reviews) however, we walked in and were seated right away. Had a Punkin Ale - awesome! Ordered the Red Coat Special w/raw onion - mate ordered w/grilled onions. Split French Fries. Burgers were good - juicy and cooked the way I ordered. However, I was a little disappointed over the "sauce" - I thought after reading other reviews that it was going to be something really special, mine was barely there - wasn't even really sure what it was supposed to be. I thought the french fries were ordinary and I was really in the mood for good fries. If I go again, would definitely order the Rings - they looked really good. All in all was good experience with good food. Not sure this is the "best" burger I have ever had - but I think I would return - if only to try those onion rings!
THE BEST IN TOWN!!!.
Redcoat is hands down one of the best restaurants in the area. Their burgers can't be beat, the fries and onion rings are the best I've ever had and the service is fantastic. I am so sick of all the whiny people on here complaining that the wait is long, the place is cramped, they don't cater to vegetarians/food allergies, blah, blah, blah... If you don't like it there people, then DON'T GO!!! Fine by me and the rest of the regulars...shorter wait for us to get the best food/service around!
They obviously know what they are doing, considering there is a line out the door in this crap economy, and will just keep making some good money putting out a good product and not worrying about all the whiners on this board.
A Great Experience!.
This place was lovely!
Our waitress was quick and friendly, the "18th Century British" atmosphere was charming, the food was excellent, and the selection of drinks? Wow...they have so many beers (domestic and foreign) that they even gave us a "beer bible" to describe them all!
My buddy and I were so pleased with our experience that we tipped 40%.
I definitely recommend this place.
Rude and anti-vegetarian.
I just called the Red Coat Tavern to ask if they have veggie burgers since I am a vegetarian and the Red Coat had been recommended to me. The woman who answered the phone told me that they do not have veggie burgers although I could order rice. She was rude and unwilling to even pass on my request to the management telling me that not having veggie burgers has worked for 30 years and they were tired of people asking for them.
I have been to many other restaurants including chains like Red Robin and they bend over backwards to accommodate their customers (Boca or Gardenburger available). In fact, it's supposed to be all about service. Even Johnny Rockets offers Boca burger substitutions. The restaurants at Macy's also will bend over backwards to prepare meals for vegetarians.
Not so at the Red Coat. They are not interested in my business or the business of my friends who may eat burgers but will choose a restaurant that is customer-focused with options for me as well as them.
Two-thumbs down for the Red Coat. I have never before found a restaurant so unwilling and arrogant about not serving vegetarians something half-way decent. I felt disliked by the woman on the phone - for being willing to consider dining at the Red Coat! She even hung up on me. They must have so much business in this economy!
Good burgers. Burgers are delicious. Love to dip my fries in the burger sauce. I don't enjoy how crowded it always is & how there is no comfortable place to wait.
They make the best burgers in Michigan and better then mine!. You gotta come here and try the burgers and french onion soup the best stuff around! Dont waste your money going anywhere else to get a burger. And they have a large selction of imported microbrews! Soo good! The only place that was at the top that impressed me was a burger joint in tampa called square one burgers you can get the best nachos burgers and ahi tuna burgers there mmm to!
The ONLY Place for Burgers.
Here's the deal - you don't go here if you want romance or if you don't want to wait. You go when you want the greatest burger there is and you're up for the wait and the crowd. It's a fun atmosphere and the low lighting with the red tint is part of it all. They've been around for as long as I can remember the crowd is a sign of how good their food is. The burgers are the absolute best - I've never had a better one. You can order the Piedmontese beef ifor an extra $2 f you want a burger with less fat than chicken and they taste the same as the regular burgers. They have the thin crisp fries that I don't think can be beat either. The orders are big - one order is enough for two people especially since the burgers are large as well. You can oder a number of toppings for your burger. Try the zip sauce, it's awesome. My daughter and I always split a burger so we can have room for the Tenderloin Tips that are served with a cajun zip sauce and toasted pumpernickle bread. My husband always orders a side of the sauce for dipping his fries. The burgers, fries, tenderloin tips, and chili are fantastic. We haven't ordered much more, but friends have tried the Mt. Vernon sandwich and the fish and chips and loved them.
Call ahead to get your name on the list and your wait will be shorter. Order a drink at the bar and relax while you're waiting. Don't be alarmed if a bartender won't even look at you for the first few minutes you're standing there, they'll look at you when they're ready to take your order. You won't be seated until your whole party is there and the seating is crowded. You can request a both if you want more privacy. They've recently added free valet parking which I think is a bad idea, but it is what it is. It's a bit pricey for burgers, but it really is worth it all. Go with the right attitude and expectations and you shouldn't be disappointed!
YUMMY!. LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MMMMM YUMMY. I could eat there every night! Stop complaining about the the wait and call ahead, if you have to wait longer get a beer and enjoy what Red Coat is all about! BUSY AND JAM PACKED FULL OF PEOPLE.
