Lei your worries aside in a tropical restaurant paradise.. In Short
Get comfortable under a thatched roof in the dining room or perch at the bar for a casual bite. Soft lighting and island-theme murals add local color, and service is leisurely and friendly. Classic salads and sandwiches receive a tropical twist with citrus flavors and lively spices, while inventive pastas, fresh seafood and Hawaiian-style barbecue complete the menu. For a more interactive dining experience, try the clam bake for two or the fire pit luau.

Poor Service, Unprofessional Staff/Management. As get-together site, Waves is convenient (proximity). Biggest draw is $1 drafts, but be prepared to wait up to 10-15 minutes for refill. Bartending staff are obviously not professionals/are inattentive, making a "Valium" effort to wait on customers. They're lacksadaisical/inefficient (walking as many as 6-7 times past a row of empy glasses on the bar). Some are blatantly rude, disrespectful (one person actually stating "I've the right to ignore you".... her problem not being in her perceived "right" but in the poor judgment of actually stating this opinion to the customer's face). Worse, the night manager, rather than addressing this unprofessionalism, suggested if I didn't feel welcome, I shouldn't come to Waves. And what was my "crime"? I was told my $12 tab (dinner) wasn't big enough to justify being waited on. There are a few able staff members, but for most part, professionalism, proper etiquette are sorely absent.

HOW TO LOSE CUSTOMERS. went to Waves for the first time on September 13th, 2003 with my daughter and my girlfriend . I attempted to pay with a AAA Visa gift card, the waitress returned and said the card had been declined, when I asked to speak to the manager( this was impossible) a manager came to my table and told me that their system would not accept my kind of card. I asked him to call Merchant Card

Services, another manager came to my table and told me that my card wasn't good because it was an incentive card good only for catalog merchandise(false) asked her to call card services as the card was valid and good at any place that accepts Visa she said that she had and it wasn't good. I called after returning home and of course they hadn't called and my card was valid, they just didn't do the charge correctly

Hawaii on the lake. If you don't take the food offerings too seriously, you can have a great time at Waves. The menu is vast, and runs the price range from inexpensive to stratospheric. All the offerings are Island oriented so the predominent taste is sweet/tart. I've grown very fond of their Ybor City Cuban Sandwich, a meal in itself. This gem is a combination of pork tenderloin, salami, greens with an island sauce served in authentic Cuban bread. Delicious. The place is made to be a light-hearted experience so be prepared to go with the flow.
