Top Notch – Didn't Expect much from a place with a huge gator on the roof but WOW was I wrong! The portions (I had fried catfish) were very generous. The breading which my server (Brian) told me is made in house as is everything else (a plus) made the fish so light and crisp. My wife and I enjoyed a large piece of chocolate cake to top it off. Can't wait to go back and thought I would do my part to spread the word on this hidden gem.
Great cajun food! – Instead of eating at the same chain and local restaurants my wife and I thought we'd check out the Bayou Grill. What a great place! It is well decorated, the service was very good and the food was outstanding.
My wife loves barbeque ribs and has found only one place (in Monroe, MI) that meets her standards. She tried the ribs. They are so good we won't have to travel to Monroe anymore. I tried the shrimp creole. I think it was better than creole I've had in New Orleans.
We've already decided what we'll eat on our next visit. We eat out on a pretty regular basis (2 - 3 times per week). This is probably our new favorite restaurant.
Highly recommended. Give it a try!
Fun place Great food! – So Glad they are back! The staff is totally cool and friendly the atmosphere is comfortable. I love the nightly entertainment and could live off the Gumbo ya-ya.
Overjoyed that the Bayou has re-opened. – When I first moved here this was always one of my favorite restaurants to eat at and drink with friends. Then unfortunately it closed. Now it has reopened with my favorite foods on the menu (Gumbo YA YA) and a redesigned bar area with nightly entertainment (Karaoke, Trivia). It has transformed itself back into one of the few places in Belleville to get a GREAT meal and good entertainment. Also I would like to add, the owner and his staff are very friendly, helpful and make you feel welcomed.
I also must mention the Sunday brunch is the best around and an exceptional value.
RECKLESS BEHAVIOR – While two little girls were present, the owner got up and sang a crude song about f---- women and the scratches on his back. I've now watched him do this twice at inappropriate times. He acts like a pig in the bar getting drunk, hawking and groping any women. He doesn't even wait until the dining area is closed to pull his crap. He sings this song while grabbing himself on a regular basis but after watching him do it in front of two young girls hit my limit. The manager's behavior and attitude are unprofessional and vulgar.
I have also seen the staff drinking behind the bar, the owner feeding a man one gallon of beer in 30 minutes and then promoting it. Brian with the guys friends carried him past drunk out of the bar dragging his feet laid him in the parking lot moaning and stood around laughing. All of this was done around dinnertime on a weekday. His behavior and lack of concern for how it looks at any time shows a complete disrespect for anyone walking through his doors. As a former bar owner I know the laws and this is a bomb ready to blow.
I'm sick of watching him disrespect women and children. He'll call his female staff and customers crude names and pull their hair. It's one thing to get caught up in owning a bar but if you can't respect the responsibility then got out of the business before someone closes you down.
My Favorite Place to Eat – This niche restaurant hits the spot. The atmosphere is relaxing and fun, great setting to enjoy the succulent dishes and wonderful company. It feels warm and welcoming as you walk in the door. The appetizers are delicious, specials are scrumptious and the whole menu offers a delectable pallet to meet the needs of everyone. I highly recommend the Meatloaf with mushroom sauce if available and the chicken lettuce cups but the whole menu is delish!
The new owner is amazing and truly cares about every aspect and it shows. Check it out, perfect for dinner for a date night, lunch specials and the bar side is a blast in the evening with fun events including karaoke on Tuesday’s and Friday’s. Whether in for a regular visit, lunch to go or when I had about 20 people in for my birthday, they’ve always taken phenomenal care of us. I can’t recommend the Bayou More!!!
Cajun in Belleville? – Man, was I skeptical! I like Cajun, but not like the stuff served in Greektown. You know where I mean, and I figured this would be just like that.
Here's the ultimate test of a Cajun restaurant: order a shrimp po' boy, and red beans and rice. You can get this at any Cajun restaurant, and most places botch it.
The Bayou gets it right. It tastes like New Orleans.
Good service, too!
