Well, I was "WindyCity" who posted about 2 years ago. I went back for another visit last year. I don't recommend Planned Parenthood in Livonia.
I was never given the option of NOT having a pelvic/annual/breast exam for my second visit (apparently this is required every year after your first visit, even in women who are asymptomatic, sexually monogamous, and have very few previous partners/only 1 partner).
The NP seemed entirely unprepared. Previously, I was put onto a birth control pill that caused several side effects, including breakthrough bleeding that lasted a week before the official "time of the month." I explained this to her and how it only began after I started taking the pill...and nothing else had changed. She stared at me like I had just come from outer space, then suggested it was chlamydia or gonorrhea. My response? Laughing. Then she stares at my sheet and says, "Oh...maybe not...do you want to get tested for those?"
No. I've already outlined the very likely cause - is breakthrough bleeding not among the biggest side effects of using the pill?
I had normal blood pressure for years (110/70) before I started taking that pill. Then, suddenly, it was 140/85. I explained this too. I had lost 50 pounds between visits (apparently something they don't check). Instead of addressing my concern that it was the pill, she told me that it must be my weight and eating and exercise habits. I was floored. Thank God they can't prescribe combination pills when you have high blood pressure; a week after I was switched to progestin only pills, my blood pressure was back to the usual.
Not to mention - they made me wait in a back room for an HOUR. An hour (because my blood pressure was high - "We'll give you 5 minutes to cool down"...I expected maybe 10, 15. Not an hour). Of course it's boiling hot in there, and then the NP makes jokes about how "sweaty" and "uncomfortable" I look. You think? I'm about to get probed, lady.
I decided that I will never go back. I felt she didn't know what she was talking about, she seemed very unprepared, and she came off as rude. If they would bother to glance over my medical history before coming into the room, it would save a lot of time and misjudgments.
But, looking through here, that seems to be a common issue.
I can't complain too much about the receptionist. She was okay, nothing stellar.
When you don't have your BC and you get pregnant, they expect you to come back to them for the abortion. That's how they make their money.
Visit good...follow up HORRIBLE – The Livonia Center provided a thorough clinical visit with good information. The wait was average. The receptionists were reasonable.
I called a few weeks before I was to run out of birth control as they were supposed to mail me my supply automatically. I made sure they had my new address and requested a shipment asap so I wouldn't run out (and stated that I needed the birth control immediately as I was finishing my last pack).
Well, I've put in about 5 calls now and still no birth control. They gave me a date that they were going to mail it out and then the next call someone would offer a new date. I finally was told the package shipped out over a week ago...it should have been in my hands within a couple of days. When I called again and questioned them, I discovered they sent the shipment to the old, inactive address. I asked them about the new address they have on file...they confirmed they have it, but only filed it for "billing purposes" and proceeded to continue with mailing to the old address (this isn't complicated...I spoke with one of the staff and specifically spelled out it was a NEW address and that I don't live at the old one). The center's response was "Well, you'll just have to wait. We haven't had it returned." I reiterated that I was out of birth control and had requested the order weeks prior. They responded that there was nothing further they could do, that I would have to wait.
For a Planned Parenthood organization, they've completely blown the whole idea of being prepared. While I can use back up protection, I have to go at least a month without my pills because they still have not yet arrived and I'm well into my new cycle.
Had I known it would have been this ridiculous, I would have spent my money on another organization and got my pap and new prescription on the spot.
I have been on top of my end of making sure I'm covered. I hope there aren't too many young women out there falling into the cracks like I am. I doubt many women have the time to make numerous phone calls as I have to do. Livonia Planned Parenthood may be facilitating a new baby boom!
Great place for birth control! – I'm 23, I've been sexually active for a year, and I knew I needed to get birth control. My family makes about $30k a year. I decided to go on birth control pills. I'm not a student, so my cost was $56 for a first-time office visit ($80 usually), and the pills I were given were $22 a pack.
It was a short medical exam (blood pressure, weight) and then I spoke to the doctor for a few minutes. I have not had a pap before. They gave me a years' prescription to start with. I called before my appointment to tell them about my income, and you should do the same for a faster visit.
I was in and out of there in 40 minutes. They were all friendly, polite and helpful. I never felt ashamed or embarrassed. I was the only one there, too - but it was 9 am on a Saturday morning.
You can also order birth control supplies online and have them shipped to where you would like.
My advice? It's your body, do your homework and study up before you go here. Don't pester them with stupid or obvious questions that can be found on the Planned Parenthood site. Research and ask intelligent questions. Don't just show up to your appointment totally ignorant.
RUDE Receptionist – Usually I don't use this location. But due to my move it's much closer then the other office I use for exams, etc. The receptionist was VERY unhelpful.I was irritated when she wouldn't answer my ?s, but was completly dissatisfied when she got annoyed when I wanted a simple explanation on something. She is the receptionist, she was the first person I saw walking into the door, and my first impression. She looked annoyed and angry the whole time i was there. I dont think i saw her greet a single person with a smile. I unfortunately had to go there again, and she was even worse that time.I will never go back there. I didn't understand what she was talking about and again she got annoyed I needed an explanation and pretty much bluntly told me she would't help me. Never been so insulted in my life.
