greatest pizza- still – i worked for franks restaiurant when i was in high school, back in 1971. pizza and pasta sauces were the best then.. got married, moved out of state. came back to dine at franks in 2000. the chairs were the same. but they were rickety. we hasd to switch to a booth for fear a chair would callapse . but the pizza and pasta sauces were just as great as they were in 1971. i'm planning to come to michigan for our 40th year high school reunion and we plan on going to franks. we like our pizzas greasy. it means they use the real cheeses, not like the chain pizzerias. we like the pepperoni to curl up when it bakes. that's the great quality stuff. i heard frank died. sorry to hear this. does anyone know if tony is still making the pizzas, and if veronica is still there helping him? i got a pizza from a place here in oklahoma city and the cheese wasso fake it couldn't melt when it was baked. that was the only time we got a pizza from that place. we have been out of michigan living since 1993. we haven't found any pizzeria whose pizzas are great, like franks. franks is still our favorite restaurant for pizza and pastas. the old waitress, sally, was mean to me when i worked there in 1971, and she was just as cold when we came to franks in 2000, while in michigan. the rickety chairs and the mean old waitress won't stop us from going to franks every time we come home to visit. we'll just get a booth. and a different waitress. frank's food is perfecto
One of the best Downriver – I've seen some reviews saying Franks is dirty, which is simply not true. The place has been there for over 40 years and is JAM PACKED with people every day of the week. Doesn't seem like a dirty disgusting place would be full of customers all day every day. I'm not a one time visitor to Franks, I go there with my family every week to get a pepperoni pizza.
Moving on, Franks has the best crispy thin crust pizza Downriver bar none, and they use the small spicy pepperoni that curls up, it's hard to find that anywhere. The pizza is greasy but this is simply a product of using natural meats and cheeses, not that crap the chain pizza places use. If you like old school pizza with all natural ingredients, you want Franks. They are light on the pizza sauce which suits my tastes, and the sauce has a very natural flavor and is not overpowering.
The only drawback is that Franks is always very busy, and if you dine in it will take you between 30 and 45 minutes most nights to get a pizza, but you can have a few cold ones while you wait.
My insider tip: Franks is open until 9:30 during the week, so if you want to avoid the crowds I would suggest getting there at about 8:00. It is packed during the dinner hours between 5:00 and 8:00.
I give 5 stars for the pizza itself, would give the entire place 4 1/2 stars because the wait time can be a bit long.
Also, when I take my son we get a large pepperoni pizza with two sodas (free refills) for 13 bucks, can't beat that.
BEWARE – The pizza was average, definetly not worth the wait (about an hour) and it was so greasy you don't need to order a drink. I seen 2 mice running along the wall and that was it for me. Eat at your own risk!
save your money – Dirty, dirty. Recently dined in and had a horrible experience. First off parking is ridiculous so good luck finding a spot. We sat for over an hour waiting for a large pepperoni pizza. The first bite I took had a green pepper, my wife found an onion on her slice. It was very greasy, which I do like, but the crust was like eating a cracker. As I went to the bathroom I seen a young man pick his nose and then continue to make a pizza w/o even wiping his finger. By the way the bathroom was disgusting. I ate here when I was younger and the quality definetly went downhill. SAVE YOUR MONEY and eat somewhere else.
a 10 – If u like thin crust round pizza,this is the best.Good soup ,good pasta ,good prices,good service.What more could u ask 4
Not worth it – The pizza used to be alot different. About 10 yrs ago they cheaped out on ingredients, changed the crust and the service went down the drain. Back when Frank was alive the quality was excellent then his kids took over and it all went downhill. Long wait time for carry-out (they tell you 45 min and you usually wait an hour in total). Very rude punk answers phone, kitchen is filthy and they reuse items other customers didn't use during their dinner. It used to be my favorite, now I get one about once or twice a year hoping for the taste I miss. I've been waiting almost a decade. Its such a shame that Franks kids and grandkids disrespected his name.
juicy pizza – Everything is homemade. The pizza is very juicy and greasy.
Great Place for Italian Food – we have been going to Franks for years. Their food is always great. Pizza is the best downriver! Worth driving 35 min. Prices are reasonable.
Good Pizza but.... – Good Pizza., be ready to wait.
Old bag at register is a nasty b***H.
She steals your pizza for carryouts 1st, makes eat ins wait. when you go to pay your bill, she takes carryouts first even if they just walked in the door!
She should be banished to kitchen, not customer friendly!
Excellent pie – Tiny joint, no frills except a brew if you want one. Smoking section 5 feet from the non.no plastic or checks, the old broad at the register looks over you tab for 3 min. Like your a criminal, but all in all you can't beat the pizza! It is hands Down the best Downriver!
