just go there.
Knapp's has always had terrific food and service. I've been a customer there for about 35 years. Apparently sugraddict does not live in Rochester (I do, and it's a very nice place), as the visit described in that review obviously took place during Rockin' Rods, an event that brings thousands of visitors into town. With all those classic car enthusiasts, obviously many of them will end up in an authentic '50s-style diner (which it is; it's not one of those fake-"retro" places), hence the crowd. It doesn't take deep thought to figure that out, but it's also popular due to the quality involved. Burgers at Knapp's are terrific, the buns are made next door to there, at Home Bakery. The shakes (or malts, take your pick) are the best in town. I have never seen a "paper plate" served there, that claim sounds absurd. The parking isn't "tricky", but rather easy: huge, free municipal parking lots are behind the building and within very close distance of the location in other directions, as well. (Don't parallel park on Main, that's for lazy people). Prices can be slightly higher than fast-food chains, but I just got 2 burgers for the price of one recently, and they are 1/3 lb. burgers. Service is fast, 10 minutes is typical for burgers, and the employees are quite attentive and quick. Anyone who lives here is well aware of all of this.

Bad customer service.
I understand that it was a busy Sunday due to an auto show, but all the ladies who were working there were rude & seemed too busy to deal with you. I stood at the counter waiting for someone to acknowledge me. 8...I'll say that again....8 ladies were within 4 feet of me. Not one looked at me. I'm not the type to interrupt, so I just waited until someone was done with what they were doing. Apparently it took 3 people to sort out a cash register, and looking up at me to ask what I wanted I guess was too difficult.
My son had won a gift certificate to this establishment. You'd think this is when they would try to impress a customer to encourage them to return.
Food was great, but I will not be going back. Glad I didn't spend my own money.

Why not have a CHOCOLATE MALT for lunch?.
The malts are the must have here....I'm not a burger fan, so I get the sloppy joe! My brother loves a plain burger w/ketchup and would also never forget to order a malt.
The diner atmosphere isn't manufactured - it really hasn't changed in decades! Try to avoid the usual meal-time rush by eating early or late....seating is limited. I usually go for lunch around 11-11:30 and have no problems getting a booth along the windows.

Get your wallet out!.
The setting is great, the malts and shakes are great. Burger and fries: so-so.
But oh my gosh was it expensive: $15 for a Cheeseburger, malt and fries on a paper plate? My wife son and I nearly dropped $50 here, for food I would get at the county fair.

The burgers are good here, but don't leave without trying a malt or a shake. They can't be beat.

shake it up baby.
Burgers are great. You want the fries seasoned. Real draw is the oldfashioned shake made with real ice cream.

Yummy.
Knapps is a fun restaurant. It is styled like an old '50's diner. The cheeseburgers are different than any other burger you've tried, and their milkshakes are soooooo delicious
