Where's the cook? – Atmosphere: dark & dank smell. Mentioned broken arm on chair and it was not replaced. Holes in the crocheted chair covering in the entry way.
Food: buffet - scant selections - only had one juice, no quality in main courses, mushy breaded beef, tough chicken pieces in pasta, cold bacon and sausages. Please teach them what real biscuits n gravy look and taste like, all fruit had rinds on, two of the five desserts looked like what they sell at Gordon Food Supply. Two pasta dishes, poor quality omlet...save your $22!
First and last time there...can not accommodate wheelchairs up the broken crooked stairs.
Bad brunch – We made the unfortunate mistake of selecting the Sunday brunch at the Holly Hotel to celebrate my mother's 75th birthday. Upon approaching the food tables, I witnessed the wait staff rearranging the meager cheese tray with their bare hands. Yuck! Their advertised brunch selection is pretentious given the lousy execution. Was that french toast? Hard to tell based on appearance and the handwritten (tacky!) place cards were easily misplaced, making the mystery dishes all that more mysterious. The made-to-order omelettes were undercooked and the roast beef overcooked. The other entrees were so unremarkable I can't even remember what they were. Just overcooked. There were no fresh fruit or vegetable trays and the one lone salad, an unembellished arugula salad, was oil drenched. We tried to be gracious to the wait staff though I was the one to suggest he take drink orders to start and reminded him at the end of the meal that coffeee would be nice. To cap a disappointing experience off, the children in our party were charged at the adult rate. When we complained to management, they told us the wait staff watches guests to see how many times they go to the food table. Based on their observations, they reserve the right to charge at the adult rate. How many times can children, who are often picky eaters, be allowed to the food tables before they are charged as adults? What if they return several times for cheese and crackers and leave the Hungarian Goulash, or whatever that was, alone. My elderly mother eats like a bird. Why not charge her as a child? Cheap! I wouldn't mind paying the adult rate if the younger children had really eaten like adults. But they didn't, and charging us as though they had is unethical. There are much better brunches in metro Detroit. Stay away from this one!
Historic setting adds to the elegant charm and classic American fare of this northern Oakland County eatery. – In Short
Just the sight of the Holly Hotel is awe-inspiring. A three-story, gabled, hip-roofed, red brick, Queen Anne-style structure is set in historic old-town Holly. Inside, custom millwork, plaster walls, ornate fixtures and tin ceiling give this establishment an elegance that is second to none. The poached filet of Norwegian salmon and beef Wellington are as elegant as the surroundings--and are deliciously complimented with champagne and spinach cream sauce and mushroom Duxelle.
CKay123 – The Holly Hotel is warm, romantic, and welcoming.
The food is outstanding...the wine list is very affordable...the service is normally very good. The cuisine is unique and vegetarians are not just accomodated but celebrated. Having eaten a great restaurants throughout the world...I still enjoy this small town treasure. Don't miss it!
Terrific restaurant! – What a gem! For more than 25 years, this restaurant in North Oakland County has been a family favorite of ours and our friends. Never disappointing, and the husband/wife owners truly have the right attitude when it comes to hospitality. The Holly Hotel is, and remains to be, what great restaurants USED to be like. Don't miss this one.
Cathleen – One of the finest restaurants in Michigan, very romantic, Victorian atmosphere! Outstanding food and service. This is a must try place. Great Comedy club on the weekends
Great Food at a Fine Restaurant – I highly recommend the Holly Hotel. I have dined their several times and have always received fabulous food and service. The environment with its candlelit dining room and Victorian decor makes for a delightful environment. The food is pricey, but it is always of the highest quality. Whenever I have guests visiting, I take them to the Holly Hotel. It is a gold mine in this area!
