Great Wines and wonderful food – Actually, I am quite surprised by both of the other reviews. I thought they perhaps had eaten at another restaurant and had mistaken it for this one, for my experience has always been quite the opposite of theirs.
I have found that the salads were not only yummy,my favorite being the Citrone, but almost too generous and definitely could be shared by two. The entres have always had a great selection. I, my self, love their chicken picata over pasta. Their prime meat filet is another favorite. The wine list is long and varied. And basically, if it is a wine worth drinking you'll find it there. The dessert is not ordered often, for I am usually satisfied with just the main meal . But when I am tempted to have dessert, I never have ordered one that didn't satisfy my sweet tooth.
So all in all between great food and a lovely atmosphere, it was a meal worth repeating again and again. By the way, it does have a Zagat rating and it's prices are in keeping with fine dining.
Small Portions, BIG Price! – While the small portion, overpriced food is fair to good, the obnoxious owner hovers over the entire restaurant nit-picking his employees every move. He obviously never has learned to praise the employee in public and punish in private. He does quite the opposite. One evening I had the displeasure to eat dinner here, do to a close friends request for her birthday. The owner literally would roam table to table to hunt down any imperfection, from a knife placed to far from the spoon or that a water goblet needed filling. Instead of correcting these obsessive insecurities himself, he would lecture his staff in the middle of the place. There is nothing I find more disruptive while eating dinner, than to witness a tantrum from a primadonna owner. He obviously takes himself and his restaurant too seriously. If it was that good, he would have a Zagat rating by now.
Amateurish, poor, inexperienced personnel – Have been there a few times-good meal, nice place. Ordered a bottle of wine and asked for it to be returned because it was bad. Waiter argued that he could not take it back, he returned three times to make his point, then brought out manager who also argued with us. It became fairly raucous, they then refused to let us order another (different) bottle of wine. Dinner went downhill from there. Other at nearby tables agreed with our position and could not believe that they were fighting with us; we have spoken with sommeliers and restaurant owners of fine LA restaurants about this situation and they agreed-Citrone has poor, untrained, amateurish service. The customer is always right guys!
