Once the old stomping grounds for icons like Bogart and Marilyn, the Frolic Room has become one of the most beloved bars in L.A. and a welcomed respite from all the gentrified lounges popping up near the Pantages Theater. Its glory days are gone, but the Frolic Room retains an air of nostalgia and dive-bar feel. Go for Happy Hour (from 4 to 7) or stop by for a drink after a show.
This bar is perfect for grabbing drinks before watching a show (The Pantages is next door) or if you just want to chill with friend and throw back a few. They have an awesome jukebox with a great selection. You won't be disappointed.
Old School and Awesome – Simply put, this is the coolest bar in Hollywood, precisely because it has gone largely unchanged since it re-opened after prohinbition in 1934. It's small, cramped, grimy, dimly lit and affordable - everything almost every other establishment in Hollywood tries to avoid. The classic style (night bartenders still wear vests and bowties) and local-corner-tavern-vibe make this old school establishment one of LA's proudest watering holes.
Cool spot....enjoyed it – Dope lil spot and the drinks were right on. The area is small and chill. I went during off hours and it wasn't packed. Great for bar hoping.
Great Hollywood Haunt – My favorite bar in Hollywood. Friendly bartenders, terrific jukebox, and great crowd. It's a great alternative to the trendy clubs in Hollywood. If you want to meet someone, it's easy to do there. Also, if you're looking to just drink and be left alone, that's pretty easy too! Drinks are reasonably priced to boot!
Low-key bar next to the Pantages is equal parts dive, hip hangout and theater-crowd watering hole. – The Scene
The Frolic Room is for people who want to avoid nearby trendy bar scenes, but don't want to hang out with a surplus of professional drinkers. There are a few real pros lingering about here, but they are outnumbered by local hipsters and folks who think traveling anywhere east of La Brea is slumming it. The theater crowd from the neighboring Pantages hits heavily before and after shows, and has a way of transforming the atmosphere into an offbeat version of its "L.A. Confidential" past.
A bow-tied bouncer shoos crowds inside to a limited number of seats and stools, where the old-fashioned popcorn machine provides free salty treats. Wash it down with a cheap beer or cocktail, pick a few songs on the jukebox and make new friends. Much like Boardner's and the Burgundy Room, this bar is an old-school Hollywood holdout.
I like to frolic – My friends and I checked this place out last week - laidback fun. Good drinks, good tunes.
best beer slinger – I was Frolicing at the Frolic room Monday night the crowd started small but then more people came in- a mixed croud if you will. Joel the man behind the bar was quick to remember our rounds simply signal the man and it was there. Friendly people, dont be shy strike up a conversation with an out of towner and who knows maybe you'll get luck ;)
you can catch me there again when im back in town.
Best jukebox – Love the jukebox. Know Wanda Jackson song from this bar.
No pretentiousness – Went there on a Saturday night...eclectic group of people, but no pretense...what a relief! The drinks are inexpensive and the place is really small but fun. It's really easy to meet people here and have interesting conversations.
very hip, old school kind of place. the grungey hollywood blvd beer and shot tip. great place to kick back and down a few before heading out with your bros. beautiful people please stay away
