Not as nice as we were hoping – First off, let me start by saying we probably never would have tried this place if it wasn't for the deal we received through Crowd Cut.
My fiancée and I got this deal as a way to get away from everything for a night. The original price that's posted says it's $175 and we got it for under $100.
We arrived and the place is very nice looking from the outside. It does appear that there is some building going on on the property as well.
We were shown to our room and settled in. There was a bottle of champagne and some chocolate covered strawberries laid out for us. The strawberries were warm and the champagne was only slightly chilled. We decided to unwind for a little before having dinner and found that there are TV's in the room, but no cable. Only a DVD player set up for it. We then decided to get something for dinner, and found out that we had to drive into Stillwater, which is about 5 miles away.
After dinner we went back to our room and decided to try out the 2 person jacuzzi, which as stated in previous reviews took about 10 minutes to figure it out. After relaxing in the jacuzzi for about 30 minutes we went to bed.
The bed was not only extremely uncomfortable, but also very noisy. I woke up every time i rolled over in bed that night, just from the noise.
In the morning as we were getting dressed, I picked up my pants which had fallen on the floor during the night, only to find a 1 1/2" long centipede crawling from where my pants had lay. My fiancée completely lost it. We proceeded to shake out and check the rest of our clothes, pack our things and load them into the car.
Before we left, my fiancée decided she wanted to have breakfast at least before leaving. To say that it was not a continental breakfast would be an understatement. They had a different variety of food for breakfast. I was less than impressed with the spread they provided.
Overall, I was less than impressed with our stay. The centipede, lack of cable, uncomfortably noisy bed and minimal breakfast are the biggest detractors of this location.
Wierd Management, but Overall Good Experience – I just had a wedding reception here and me and my guests stay there for a few nights. If you're planning on taking a shower, I'd block off about 1 hour minimum, because it'll take 20 minutes to figure out how to adjust the knobs, 20 minutes for the water to get warm, and 20 min to shower. And our shower wouldn't shut off. The owners suggestion was to "just play with it", well we played with it for 30 minutes and gave up and it ran all night long. Also, one of the beds in our room didn't have sheets on it, but was made up like it did, so at 1am when we went to bed no one was around to provide us with sheets. Also, the coffee maker was broken and splurted skolding water all over the place and the TV didn't work as well, it would have been nice to have 1 or two working channels, but there were none. Also, it seemed like there was always junk lying around in the yard of the Outing Lodge. It's either a spare tire, car parts, bricks, tools, or scrap metal. Sort of an eye sore if you happen to turn around and face away from the Lodge. One last complaint is that the breakfast was not what I expected. It's only cold food like granola and fruit and yogurt. Not bad, but compared to other Stillwater B&Bs it's not impressive.
But like most people we chose this place because the building is really unique and the food fantastic. Word of advice if you decide to rent this facility, avoid the owner carlota she is not helpful. I recommend Dan, he is extremely helpful and accomidating.
Even though I have lots of complaints, I'd still recommend this place because all my guests at the reception oo'd and awed at how cool the Lodge was and how great the food was. They had a great time and at the end of it all that's really what matters.
Worst B & B I have even encountered!!!! Not safe! Be ware!!!! – I went on a girls weekend with my mom and my aunt thinking at 170 dollars a night we would be staying in an elegant rustic old home, clean, safe, and great service. We encountered the exact opposite. Driving up the long dirt road I looked to my left and saw an old rusted white van with junk scattered all around it. Pulling up the the house was more rusted old vehicles that hadn't been moved in what looked like decades. I felt like I was in one of those old horror movies that you never made it out alive. Walking into the inn we were not so friendly greeted by this young blonde woman who seemed to know nothing about the inn or accomidations themselves. Our room was musty smelling and the lock on the door could have been picked by a two year old. The house itself is not secured in any fashion. Anyone could have entered the main door of the house at any time. We were told that no one would be in the house after 5pm other than one other guest and we needed anything there is a phone in the entry way(by the way...we had no signal on our cell phones anywhere within the house and we each had different cell phone companies). If you stay in room 3 look out the bathroom window and view the face implanted in the concrete of the stoop. Creepy...yes! None of us had a good feeling as we drove up but we wanted to give the lodge the benefit of the doubt because the pictures from the internet looked so appealing. Those pictures were definately false advertising. The "owners" were rude and had no compassion for us feeling unsafe in their lodge. Carlata has no concept of making a guest feel secure or at home. Needless to say we optted not to spend the night elsewhere. When it comes down to it this place is just a front page headline news story waiting to happen. And let me just say we did not want to be the names on the headline. Stay far away from this creepy, trashy, desolate lodge. It would be better to stay with your inlaws.
Estate living in a charming rural setting. – The Scene
This lovely property is reminiscent of a 19th-century European country retreat, surrounded by lawns and gardens, 360 acres of wooded walking paths and miles of rolling farmland. The interiors feature a tasteful simplicity, with common areas adorned with wide-planked wooden floors and paneling cut from 100-year-old pine and fir beams. All cracks and imperfections are proudly on display, providing a picturesque backdrop for the elegant Early American and European antique furnishings. Numerous candelabras and seven massive fireplaces add to the charm.
All nine rooms have private baths, many of which feature whirlpools. A spacious, quiet and very private suite is a highlight. One can relax and converse with fellow guests on comfortable couches around a seven-foot-wide fireplace in the common area, browse through the library or sip some wine or a microbrew at the bar.
Overall good, but a couple of flaws – We went for our anniversary. Charming place, loved the decor, hosts were wonderful. Breakfast buffet wonderful. But from 1:50 AM to 2:15, we were serenaded by a dog barking right below our window. At about 5:30 we had a repeat chorus - just enough to wake us up. They are working on their hot water system, so there was a very inconsistent flow of hot water.
Great ambience – I stumbled across the Outing Loge while cross country skiing in the area. It's a charming old place that has an inviting warmth. On the main floor there is a fireplace that is so large you can almost walk in to it. Upstairs there is a common room with a sofa that several people could lay on...together. After I found this place I realized it has been featured on the food channel...on The Best of... I think, for their spectacular Russian New Years or celebration. They offer a feast almost once a month.
