Local favorite has a tradition of good service and good food--if not much flash. – In Short
Signature colored-glass pyramids sit atop the roof; the interior features windows and booths, a fireplace and light woodwork. Servers are knowledgeable, and the menu is vast and varied. Fare includes steaks, salads, seafood, pastas and burgers, but Mediterranean is the mainstay. Favorites include the laham mishwee (fresh lamb skewered with bell peppers and onions). Those in-the-know order the scallops St. Jacques immediately. This appetizer takes at least 10 minutes. It's rich, but definitely worth it.
"Perkins" style lunch – Ordered the "Awada's Gyros." It was fairly basic, with processed gyro meat. Nothing too spectacular here. Our server was very plain, as it, took our order, dropped of the food, brought us the bill. Never checked on us or put any effort into her service. I will go back and try it one more time, maybe dinner.
Finally, good augratin potatoes – Awada's on Plato is like stepping back to the old supper club days. Wait staff that is efficient and have been there forever. Food like steak, butterfly shrimp and the elusive real augratin potatoes with lots of bubbling cheese. But they also have great taboulie salad and pita bread.
Good family restaurant. Prices are still reasonable.
