The New Casper's – Casper's reopened earlier this month after having been closed for seven months because of a fire. We went there the second week. It was medicore. The interior has been opened up and there is one large room. We were in a booth in the traffic lane. My wife said we should have asked for a booth near a window. The small room toward the bar now is outfitted with leather chairs, supposedly to make it look like a VIP cocktail lounge.

We went on a Monday night. They no longer have the early bird specials that were available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Monday was $9 steak night. Three of us had that; none of the steaks was cooked to specifications, and the meat was tough. The waitress said these were "special steaks that are not on the menu". Presumably the non-special steaks are better. Two us had au gratin potatoes, which are a "house speciality". They are cubes of potatoes with some cheese slopped on top, and then something was done to burn the cheese on ours.

None of the wait staff has returned. We were told they found new jobs because the place was closed for so long. The new people are young college-age types. Our waitress was OK.

I noticed that the menus now list prices in whole numbers such as 18 rather than $17.99. The prices have increased on everything we used to order. I suppose that's understandable considering that food prices has risen.

A week later my wife and I went to Casper's for lunch with a couple of friends. We sat in a booth by a window. One friend had a roast beef sandwich, and the other had a rueben. My wife and I each had a "lunch express" half sandwich. She ordered beef, and I ordered turkey. We both got turkey. She informed the waitress when she passed by, and she whipped away the plate and came back with a roast beef sandwich unadorned with the pickle, lettuce and tomato that had been on the previous plate.

Two in our party had a side of fresh fruit, and another and I had french fries that were called five step fries. Our friend inquired as to the five steps, and after hearing the waitress' explanation, he told her it sounded to him like fries that had been really mangled. When we got the fries, they were the same as what I have had at the old Cherokee: soggy and limp.

Mediocre at best – We've been at the place more than one. I think its food quality is deteriorating. Maybe it's the chef. My husband had what they call the Eagan steak. It was quite good. I decided to try the London Broil which, according to the menu, is medallions of beef. What came were four slices of tough beef like the beef roast that my grandma served for Sunday dinner. The meat was covered with brown slop which was supposed to be gravy. We each had caesar salad rather than garden salad. I never before have had caesar salad garnished with a cherry tomato.

Dont go for a holiday – I've never been here for a normal lunch or dinner but I will never suggest this place for a holiday meal. Easter Sunday at Caspers was so horrible I couldn’t wait to get out of the building. The waiting line for the buffet wrapped around itself and through the seating area and for the entire half hour we were there I had people standing over my head coughing and sneezing and just being rude. People actually had the nerve to ask if the chicken was good as they stood over me waiting in line. And then to make it all worse I think there was only three waitresses on that day because it took 21 minutes to get our drinks. People seem to like this place for a normal meal, but I don’t suggest it for a holiday.

Great bar that stays open late!!! – This is my favorite bar in Eagan. The bar is completely separate from the restaurant and takes up the entire barn. Not a bit pretentious, and actually stays open late, unlike most suburban bars. Lots of regulars, pull tabs and huge tvs make this a great place to relax, or to stop in for a night cap before heading home. The late night happy hour features 2-4-1's on everything!

By the way, in response to the negative reviews about the restaurant, I actually think it has a lot of character. Not necessarily a place you'd want to take a first date, but definitely an experience of an old-school steakhouse.

Below average – Always heard good things about this place so decided to give it a try. Food is okay but steaks, seafood are overpriced. Sandwiches (burgers) looked reasonably priced however.

The grounds are not maintained and the interior has not been upgraded since the days dark walnut decor was the "in thing"

The place is a "has been" and needs new management that cares and is willing to start from scratch to bring the place up to what it used to be.

Casper's Cherokee Sirloin Room – We had a 50th Wedding Anniversary party at the Casper?s Cherokee Sirloin Room in Eagan. We were placed in the hall which was well decorated and there was plenty of room. The food was hot and everyone was pleased with the ribs, chicken, and Au grotten potatoes. The service was excellent, and the food was amazing. We were so impressed with the service, they catered to every need. We definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone!

Nothing is worth it, food, price, or service – This is probably the most over rated restaurant in the entire southern metro area. The quality and quantity of food you receive for the money is very poor. The service was vertually nonexistant. We had to repeatedly ask for refills on our drinks. We generally very good tippers, but we literally left a $1 tip!!!

You can live like a king on a sensible budget when you dine here. – In Short
Step inside this suburban steakhouse to see walls plastered with national clips, scads of awards and the loving testimony of dozens of celebrities. Caspers is the land of the $30 steak for less. Called the Steak of the Decade, it's slow-aged, charbroiled, perfectly cooked top sirloin. The steak is buttery smooth, splendidly trimmed and delicious. There are also other steaks, plus shrimp, chicken, walleye and ribs.

Not what it used to be – They used to be THE place and I went regularly, but in the past 5-10yrs, it has lost it's edge. The food is fine, but the quality/portions and prices are better elsewhere.

If you must go, I'd pass on the Eagan location and go to the St Paul location on Smith.

Eagan is run like a business that just wants to get you in and out and to make money, not to bring back customers.
