FILMZILLA ROCKS!!!!!!!!! – Nicollet Village Video is now Filmzilla

I have been a member of both the old an the new stores for almost a decade. I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars in there, in that time.An with there deals on bulk rentals thats saying alot.

Yes the clerks are a tad "original", WHO CARE'S!?!?!?

i count them as my "movie guys/gals" i have spent hours talking to most of them, an in time i found them to be a great group of people "kind of the Empire Records" type of cast of employee's.

Yes There is a certain employee that scares the hell out of most people, they rest are cool as hell.

I have read all the comments left here, people this ain't your normal Blockbuster video store, they have a larger, selection of movies an dvd's then EVERY SINGLE RENTAL PLACE IN THE CITIE'S..BAR NONE.

They have huge selections of everything, from anima to forgein, to comady an chick flicks to kids movies.

I was looking for some very out of date movies an 9/10 they had it.

An Chris the owner, hes the funnyest of them all, sure he's rough around the edges an yes you really don't want to be on his bad side, but other than that hes one hell of a nice guy, hes funny as hell, he just doesn't take crap from people in his own store.WHY SHOULD HE HAVE TOO!?!?!?

KEEP IT UP GUYS/GALS U ROCK!!

Nicollet Village Video is now Filmzilla – Nicollet Village Video moved & changed their name. They are in the Seward neighborhood:

Filmzilla

2701 East Franklin Ave

mpls 55406

They area open noon to midnight every bloomin' day of the year.

You can't say you love movies if you don't have a membership here.

There is no other movie rental place in Minneapolis. They have tens of thousands of rentals, and will try to find and buy anything they don't have. Filmzilla specializes in rare, independent and art-house films.

Filmzilla rents movies. They don't rent games, they don't rent DVD machines, they don't buy your used DVD's. They do one thing, and are the best at what they do. They have won City Pages best video store of the year several times. And should.

The customer service? They do what they can. Overheard:

Clerk: "I don't do customer service. I help people. That requires a little effort on your part."

(As a server putting myself through college, I laughed loud and long at that one.)

The clerks are clearly overworked. It is a small indy business, and a meager staff is required to keep the place open. It's not an easy job, despite what people think. Filmzilla's help and know-how is something netflix will never provide. At that is from the clerks.

If you want the widest selection of rare or hard to find, independent, foreign, documentary, avant garde, anime, or b-movies, get a free membership and get the best deal in movie prices and selection anywhere. My netflix account is now CLOSED. I don't like the corporate monopoly netflix is developing into.

If you want the best, most extensive, inexpensive, coolest movie rental store in the 7 state area, go to FILMZILLA.

If you want your butt kissed, go back to your plush suburb, hire a therapist or get an escort.

BEST VIDEO STORE EVER!!! – I LOVE THIS STORE!

They have the BIGGEST selection in the twin cities and the prices are the best!! I love that I can spend 5 bucks and get 4 great movies!! I love the staff and the owner is hilarious and has the cutest dog I’ve ever seen!!! I hope they never go outta business - like most of the other independent video stores in the area.

The Banality of Evil – Nicollet Village Video's staff isn't even that bad--most are just kind of bored and listless, providing the sort of flat customer service one expects at a video store. The owner is very gregarious and loves to bs about movies.

But then there's that one guy--you must know the one--the ponce.

He's there all the time, and I've come to feel that his attitude toward customers extends far beyond the boundaries of mere boredom or annoyance, and into the seething fires of absolute hatred. Even the simplest transaction with him is a study in pathological passive aggression, and god forbid you have some kind of issue or ask a question about a movie.

Avoid the ponce and you're golden.

Welcome to the jungle... – Surly, unsocialized staff lack rudimentary customer service skills.

Many badly scratched and unplayable DVDs.

Huge cult and foreign film selection.

Reminiscent of Uptowns Discount Video in its heyday during the 90s but lacks it's eccentric charm.

It's Like Being Urinated On Every Time You Rent! – Sure Nicollet Village Video is cheap. And sure they have a large and varied DVD selection.

But there's this one guy, Smitty, who always seems to be working there. And he always seems to be a douchebag. You'll know him when you see him: a balding, overweight lump, slouching behind the counter, just waiting to suck. Sometimes he's loud and obnoxious, a braying jackass who fancies himself an expert on movies. Sometimes, though, he's quiet - so quiet that he can't say things like please, thank you, have a nice day. You know, the usual courtesies adults exchange during a simple business transaction. He also seems to be really, really angry. Maybe he's a serial killer, maybe he's a rapist. Regardless, he's reason enough for you to avoid going to Nicollet Village.

Stick with Netflix.

The WORST service ever! – I've been going here for years, and I've never gotten a greeting or a thank you.

My partner and I and a couple friends were there over the weekend, and they were kicking everyone out 15 minutes early because their clock was fast (no doubt so they could close early).

They were extremely rude to us, and even more rude to another customer who actually pointed out that the clock was 20 minutes fast (clock said 24:05 when it was really 23:45).

The clerk who rang us up did say thank you when handed the money, but not at any other time.

I really think that if these people don't want to provide decent service, they should close up and go back where they came from. We won't be back, ever.

I'm going to check out Crown Video, and a couple others I found on citysearch, see if they're any better.

Great selection!! – I just read thru all the previous reviews of Nicollet Video, some going back 5 years and I totally disagree with the cons mentioned. It was my first time there and I was blown away by the awesome selection and number of vids/cds available. It was like a candy store of videos. I found the man who waited on me to be very friendly and helpful. I must admit that the 2 rotties behind the counter did make me step back a bit when I first saw them, but fell in love with them when one put his paws up on the counter and wanted a scratch. I will definitely be back!!!

Wonderful all around – I've been renting from Nicollet Village for almost 6 years now and have NEVER had a bad experience. The staff may be a little crabby at times, but I'm crabby ALL the time (mostly at people that complain about Nicollet Village) so we all get along very well. I have rented a couple DVD's that did not play in my DVD player, but they replaced them with no hassle because I am not a demanding customer who always thinks I am right. I always find what I am looking for in there. Whether it's Japanese Horror/Torture movies, or "Relations" and the City. As far as the drop box goes.....makes perfect sense to me why they do not allow it's usage during business hours. Because it's a pain in the "rear end" to have to clean those things out every 5 minutes, and it's the lazy american's excuse to not get out of their cars. It is quite possible, as well, that it could be for security purposes. You know, DVD's are expensive, and 16th and Nicollet isn't the best neighborhood around.

Anyways, kudos to you Nicollet Village Video! Keep up the crabby attitude and great selection! Makes me feel more human.
