Oh Village Video, why can't you just stop sucking? – Village Video is so tempting; it's nearby, indi, and at first glance, the selection and rental prices look fantastic. As other reviewers have already said, though, VV falls short in a big way. Their discs are often in poor condition- scratched or overplayed. Their files on members are disorganized and inaccurate, and the staff live up to their reputation as the worst service in Minneapolis. The fact that they disallow drop box use during daytime hours is inconvenient, and they're notorious for towing their own customers from the lot!

It's sort of shocking that they still have a customer base, but I'm as guilty as all the other Whittier kids who'd rather get a defective rental, ridiculous fees, and horrible service than give our business to Blockbuster.

If you can avoid village video, though, do. Save yourself the frustration, and save the poor, imposed upon staff from your expectations of decent service, a disc that plays correctly, or fair fees.

The best there is... – Seriously.

Don't believe the morons here. They're just those type of people who believe that every poor schmoe with a counter job has to be their automatic best friend/slave/ass kissing syncophant and that they should be extrememly thankful for the chance. And then when they go into a business and that doesn't happen, they get all upset. Hey, guess what, losers, you aren't the center of the World and no one likes you. Go get real friends.... oh thats right, you're lame, so you can't...

I go there all the time and have yet to have a single problem. They've always answered every question I've had and make great recommendations. Maybe its just me, maybe I'm just not some creepy loser or maybe the secret is that I don't expect the kid with the tattoos behind the counter to fall on his knees and thank me for deeming him worthy enough to receive my $5. Maybe thats the secret... maybe you should realize that no one is paid to be your best friend, so just go there, shop and go home. Freaks!

Have you seen High Fidelity? Thats what this place is like, times 10! As in: Posers need not apply!

This video store has EVERYTHING I have looked for. EVERYTHING. Its awesome, you can't get a better deal anywhere in town or a more knowledgable staff. DVD and VHS, four movies for five dollars for four days. Thats sick! I can rent Disc 1 season 3 of Buffy, Full Metal Jacket, The Enigma of Kasper Hauer AND Battle Royale all at the same time! Awesome! The TV and music sections are amazing, so is the Criterion.

Love the dogs!

Conan rocks!

Best Video Store in town.... hands down!

Avoid it like the Plague.... – Nicollet Village Video: No Customer service to speak of..

These people are the worst. They won't greet you or even look at you when they speak.

They mumble when they ask for information.

The clerk asked for my phone no. in order to access my account.

Then he retrieves my account and says the credit card no. has expired. I had expected that.

I was ready with a new card. Then he says. 'Your phone no. is correct?' I said, 'What?'

If he accessed my account, why would he ask if the phone no. was correct?

I asked, 'Is there a problem?' This guy would not look at me. No answer.

I have never seen him before. What is your problem?

He just would not speak up about the charges for the video's.

Nor when they are to be returned. Nor a simple "Thank You" for coming.

When I came back to return the video's, I asked the clerk where to place them.

He wouldn't even ask me if I needed help. He was too busy talking to another clerk.

A simple Thank You...is easy..

nicollet village video – customer service stinks! it's crappy, frustrating and makes you not want to rent there, a lot of movies skip and they don't belive it when it happens on your system and not theirs. they always act like they are doing you a favor by taking your money. those dogs r not well trained. they make the place stink. the guy who helps you with a mouth full of tobacco is just nasty. take that stuff out of your mouth before you talk to customers. they do have a lot of hard to find titles plus a lot of vhs titles, but it does'nt make up for the very very very poor customer service. if you can handle crappy service go ahead and go 4 4 5 can't beat it.

Thank you, sirs, may I have another? – I'm not the type of person that likes my butt kissed in a fake customer servicey way, but trying to get videos from this place ruins my night every time. There are signs plastered everywhere which tell you WHAT NOT TO DO!!!! OVER AND OVER!!! AS IF YOU ARE STUPID AND/OR DOING WHATEVER IT IS JUST TO INFURIATE THEM !!!! The post by Nicollet Village Video pretty much sums up how much they feel about their customers. Nobody's making you work in customer service, you guys. And being a professional dom probably pays better.

Four movies for four days for $5. – Mr. "Refund!" (deliberate Breaking Away reference), shows up claiming Nausicca and Constantine were both defective and saying that he should get his money back.

I loaded Nausicca into our $30 Sam's Club DVD player and had him direct me to the place that it froze. After a half dozen "ok, it must be the next scene"s, it was clear that the disc worked just fine. when I went to check Constantine (full frame version), he told me he had already gone elsewhere to rent it. So even if it did freeze, we own SEVEN more Full frame versions and SIXTEEN widescreen copies and would have been more than happy to trade it out, if he had just informed us of the problem before stomping off somewhere else.

Of course, it should also be noted that he demanded his money back for movies that "didn't work" and yet he kept them the full four days of the rental period. hmmmm....

ANyway, in the end he got half his money back since only 1 (allegedly) didn't work and still he decided to act like the kind of pouty, narcissitic buttwipe that makes working in retail or customer service such a joy. God Bless America, where the victimized Matyr is King and the customer is NEVER wrong!

Terrible customer service – I rented a couple DVDs and both of them were damaged, i.e. my DVD player skipped and I could not watch them in peace. When I brought them back to ask for a refund, I got an argument, and an explanation of how my DVD player sucked. That was my first rental with a new membership. Never again!

I rented an identical DVD from another store, and it played perfectly, so I doubt it was my DVD player.

great selection! – This is one of the best video store selections I've ever seen. They have tons of new releases, but they're not the ones you find in blockbuster, and they generally only have one or two coppies of any given movie. So don't go here for the latest big budget hollywood movie. Instead, find pretty much any kung fu movie released in the US, find tons and tons of independent films, find something new, find something you wouldn't have otherwise seen. Oh yeah, and it's hard to beat their 4 movies for $5 on non-new-releases.
