Nickel and dime you – I had expected more out of Little Tijuana Restaurant in Minneapolis, I was very disappointed. I have gone to very good other Authentic Mexican Restaurants in the past this wasn't one of them! For an example I will drive 100 miles to New Ulm for Plaza Garibaldi for Authentic Mexican. Their prices are equivalent and proportions to Little Tijuana, but their quality of service and food are much higher. At Plaza Garibaldi they believe the customer comes first. Unlike Little Tijuana where if you do not like your food they will argue with the customers, and make you pay for something you do not want to eat. At Plaza Garibaldi if you have a problem with your food or it's a mixed up order they're more then happy to fix it for you. At Little Tijuana you pay for your chips and salsa, the chips aren't worth eating anyways because it seems they re-fry their chips. At Plaza Garibaldi you get chips and salsa free with your order, the chips are fresh and tasty. At Little Tijuana's my drink was $2.75 with no refill. At Plaza Garibaldi it was $1.85 for soda with refills. Little Tijuana's atmosphere is dark and grungy. Plaza Garibaldi is light, festive and clean. Little Tijuana's is not customer service friendly that is noted on their sign on the wall that reads No checks, cash or credit only and only one credit card per table. Don't ask we will not split the check. At Plaza Garibaldi they're are more then happy to take more then one credit card and they will split the check. Also in the menu for Plaza Garibaldi you may substitute in your meal order. The point is I think you can see the difference for yourself between two individually owned Mexican Restaurants.

Little Tijuana Restaurant Mpls MN – I have tried little Tijuana in the past in 2000 it was Ok I don't remember anything bad about it. So I thou ght I try it again since I like Mexican food. I was sadly disappointed. Having worked in the Restaurant Business and being a Food safety Manger myself. I notice things most people don't.

The first thing I noticed besides the cool picture on the front of the menu of the punk server. Was the sign on the wall that read no checks only cash or credit and only 1 credit card per table they will not split the bill so don't ask.

We had 3 people at our table 2 with credit cards one with cash. We thought about splitting up and sitting at different tables so we could all eat. Due to we were all hungry.

I offered to not eat so my friends could. Thankfully the server offered to make an exception. Because I was not going to ask due to the rude sign on the wall.

Our server was Ok but she mislead my friend into thinking that sour cream came with her meal so that she did not have order it on the side.

When we got our food it looked good and had big portions which was priced accordingly.

One friend ordered Nachos Grande it was very large which would have been wonderful except that the chips looked and tasted like they had been re-fried 3 times.

Any decent Restaurant would not have served those chips to any paying customer because they belonged in the trash can. A good Food Manger would of never sent those out.

It appears that restaurant is cutting corners to save money but they are only hurting their business.

If a customer was drunk they might not care or notice.

I ordered a Shrimp Chimichanga that came with sour cream. It looked good it tasted Ok but some of the large shrimp inside the Chimichanga still had it's hard tail on it. Note most Restaurants order their entree piece premade from a food distributor. So I can't blame Little Tijuana unless they make it fresh by hand in their Restaurant.

My other friend ordered a #5c which she had been lead to believe it came with sour cream and when it had not she asked the server for the sour cream. Her meal tasted Ok. When the bill came she was charged .75 for 3oz of sour cream. First there was not 3oz that came in the 3 oz container only a little spoon full. Next when she asked the server about the charge for the sour cream. She was told her dish did not come with sour cream the Chimichanga did.

I never remember asking whether or not my Chimichanga meal came with sour cream or not. But both my friends and I remember the sever being asked if #5c did and she said yes.

After I organized the table so that the dishes could be picked up due to my restaurant training is deeply ingrained. We all worked out the tips. I never cheat a server on a tip even if I their service was not outstanding. I give 10% 15% or 20% depending on service quality. I mostly give 20%.

When we were asked how was our food we all said fine thanks. We kept our real thoughts to our self due to we were worried they might put extra charges on our credit card.

Over all our experience was sadly disappointing.

The service could of been quite a bit better. Like a sorry for misleading you on the sour cream that was my fault let me make up for it by taking it off your bill.

Next no customer should be afraid in telling them the truth about the quality of their food. If they are afraid there is something really wrong with the Restaurant Customer Service.

After reading other customers comments about the Restaurant in the review I am glad I didn't say anything in person. I feel this Restaurant owner or manger is doing shady Business by intimidating customers into paying for food that is not to quality standards.

Note I do not work or have ever worked at this Restaurant. I am only a Customer who has training in the Restaurant field and know what good Customer Service is. Thank you for your time. I hope you find this helpful.

Worst Dining Experience of My Life – First off I never write reviews. OK, I always end up at this crappy place. No one really likes their food, more that it's open late. I have never really cared for it myself. But tonight the waitress wouldn't let me return my hamburger... which I took one bite of and quite literally blooood ran out and pooled up on the plate and bun. She said that the "Owner" who was also the cook?? said I had to eat it as is. I asked to talk to the owner she said" no and that I should just eat it so she wont have to pay for it." I offered her $20 for her to take care of the situation. This was more than enough to pay for a new hamburger and the old one) and she said no, if she argued with her boss she would "lose her job".

I explained I wasn't going to pay for something that I didn't eat and I wasn't going to eat something that could risk my health. She said then YOU are making me pay for this. I replied, "I think it's YOUR owner/boos/cook (or whoever this mystery person behind the curtain is) who is making you pay. I offered you a fair deal" This whole situation was making me think I was on a hidden camera show. Because first she messed up my order bringing me the gross deep fat fried chips, then forgot our silverware, we had to get these ourselves. Then after all that drama, she charged my friend's credit card for the full bill, before finally squaring it up. Bottom line: After 12 years of putting up with bad food and bad service. I will never eat at Litte T's again.

Not worth the hype – We heard good things about this place, but we're disappointed immediately when we were told they don't serve alcohol. But we still wanted to try the "amazing" food we heard about so went with waters. The chips and salsa that you have to pay for are dripping with grease (you can get dry but we were never offered those so did not know until later). Then the enchiladas w/ rice and beans came out and it was all bland tasting. Don't waste your time, go right down the road to Pancho Villas where you can drink awesome margaritas and eat better food w/ free chips and salsa.

AWESOME – I've been going to little t's for years. Its changed a little bit from the late 90s but its still one of my favorite places in minneapolis. The enchiladas and fajitas are to die for, the pops are GIGANTIC (no refills, however, but i can't imagine anyone ever needing one) and, as everyone probably knows, you get to color on the tables. If the staff decides they like whatever you've drawn, it might be added to their collection of patron-drawn pictures on the board behind the counter.

Speaking of the staff...

the waitresses (and waiters) have always been one reason i'm drawn to the place. the last 3 times i've been there i've been waited on by the same girl who is usually sporting some vintage outfit, about a hundred tattoos, and red lipstick. talk about HOT. the rest of the staff is just as aesthetically pleasing 100% of the time. but other than just looking good, i've always felt the service was really good, but seriously, don't come in when its like 2:50 AM (they close at 3).

Lacking service, taste, ambience - but if you want to pay for association with counter-culture, maybe – We were very excited to go to this restaurant after reading good reviews. We always enjoy trying something new, especially places that are unique. But we were really, really disappointed. The facility is quite old, with old vinyl booths, laminate tables, blue Christmas lights, and a few Mexican-themed paintings. You can see into the kitchen, which also seems old, like a greasy spoon-type kitchen. That doesn't bother me if it has great food or some other attraction. But it does not. The menu was pretty affordable (but not great), but all the notes about "Absolutely no substitutions" were obnoxious (it's hard to believe that this is such a problem). It's very odd that there are charges of $0.30 for flour tortillas. The salsa was pretty good, even though chips and salsa have to be ordered. The rest of the food was pretty blase. Nothing special. The beef in the fajita tasted like it was marinated in teriyaki sauce, which was odd. But the real problem was the service. Our waiter, who had 15 piercings on his face had an I-could-care-less attitude. We had to ask several times for more water, and this when there were 3 wait staff similarly dressed in sloppy, grungy clothes, commiserating at a corner table, with only three tables with customers! There was no one else there, like a manager who might care about the business. If you care about Mexican food, a good deal or fair service, try a different place that might care. If you like places that uniquely combine counter-culture and nickle-and-dime pricing, this might be the place.

Good to get food after the bars close. – Little T's is a good place to get a late night bite to eat. The nacho's supreme is huge and is good to share with someone. They have the most intense jalapeno's I've ever experienced so take those with stride if you're a jalapeno wimp like me. Good service, good tunes, but give the servers a break and don't show up 5 minutes before they close.

What happened and who is to blame? – As a young man in the 80s, I used to go here a couple times a month and always enjoyed the food, service etc. It was a near perfect end of the night hangout with OK food and decent (if maybe a little too cool for school) help. I have a lot of good memories of this place. I go back every couple years now and have not had a good experience in the last 4 or 5 visits. Generally bad/poorly prepared food with snotty unhelpful service. I think I'm done with this joint.

Lousy slow service. – We sat down and waited about 10 minutes to get water. Waited 1/2 hour and still no food. We asked about it and told it was coming any moment. No apology offered, and not even a chip offered as we waited. Waitresses didn't care. We left before food arrived. Went to Peninsula Malaysian and had a great experience. Go there instead!!

Great Atmosphere & Food!! – This place was awesome. i LOVE their cheeseburgers w/ guacamole! the service is great and doesn't lack in uniqueness. There is paper on the tables so you can draw all over them. open late and good prices. the only thing that i have to warn you about.. if your a pop drinker its a little pricey with no re-fills. but otherwise. you have to check this place out!
