A Twin Cities Icon for over 25 yrs -- I've been a loyal customer for about 15 of those years. It's the place in town for authentic Caribbean food and the only place remaining, as far as I know, where you can get really hot food if you want it. Harry is from Trinidad where he learned to cook at a young age, under the tutelage of his mother. Harry and his son Rob have remained true to their heritage with authentic ingredients and traditional cuisine. Harry imports the peppers for his famous hot sauce and many of his spices directly from "home." One whole wall of the place is covered with local "Best Of" awards -- it's the place Calypso and Soca legends, as well as ordinary Trinidadians, eat when they are in town. The food is great, heavily Indian influenced, but with a unique flavor all it's own. If you like the style, you will love Harry's. Harry himself is a local legend and a one of a kind character. Harry's son Rob has learned well from the old man and is a great Caribbean cook in his own right. Start with a curry or jerk and go from there, and try the chicken wings, they are unlike any other.

Aweful - dont waste your money – A bunch of us went there after making reservations and the owner and his family pretended that there was none. They all adjourned to the Kitchen and peered through the window as our group discussed our options.

A group of people ahead of us in line at the door also had the same experience. They left in disgust. We should have done the same as the food was aweful.

After 15-20 mins of discussions, finally Mr Singh decided he could seat us. The supposedly Jamaican drinks were OK at best. The food had tons of MSG courtesy of some corporation. We all tried each othes dishes and it all tasted the same : MSG laden factory made broth. Hey, it even looked the same with piles of a raw cabbage salad. Our homemade slaws tasted much better. The Roti was the most disgusting I have ever had - homemade or otherwise. You can buy much nicer frozen ones at stores like Holyland on Central. Biryani in Edina has naan and Batura on their buffet. Surahbi in Bloomington has naan and Dosa on their buffet.

If its MSG laden food one craves, heres the formula. Just go to Cubs buy some chicken and gravy mix. Fry the chicken, toss the gravy (and thats real flattery for the liquid) on top and the pile on some chopped cabbage. I think this is the secret recipe of this restaurant anyway.

We were all unanimously disappointed in the whole experience.

Furthermore it sees really suspicious that some people gave this place 5stars on Google review and then posted the same reviews on City Search.

I only gave it one star because none is not an option.

The Best Caribbean Food in The TC – Everyone who knows quality food in the Twin Cites knows that Harry Singhs is a gem. Consistently for the last 30 years Harry has been serving up the most authentic Caribbean food in the Twin Cites. His loyal following include most of the food critics in the area as well as sports figures and arts folks. He has too many reviews to count with the latest in Minnesota Monthly in March 09. Many have tried to copy Harry's recipes and some do and call them their own. But all who know , go to Harry's for his Roti's , Brown Down Chicken and Doubles.

If you want to take a trip to the Caribbean , look no further than Harry Singhs.

Great Food! – If you're looking for delicious Caribbean (Indian-influenced) food, Harry Singh's restaurant is the place to go.

The service was excellent, and the meals are reasonably priced, considering the large portions that you will receive.

It's no-frills dining--but it's absolutely delicious. I would recommend the jerked (shredded) chicken roti for starters. The curry chicken roti is also a great selection. Just go easy on Harry's delicious pepper sauce. It's HOT! And definitely will please diners who enjoy hot and savory flavors.

Caribbean HOT SPOT – I have been in MN for about two years and I have been searching for a place with good Trinidadian Food; both of my parents are from Trinidad. I have frequented the World Market and a place on University and Dale in St Paul I have also visited a place on Lake St. and a Guyanese restaraunt in Richfield. None of these places have anything on Mr. Harry Singh. His food is authentic, well prepared and delicious. He hasn't strayed away from the original Trinidadian style at all. It is just like the food that my mom makes except I don't have to go all the way home to get it : >

Be prepared for mild spice that you can heat up some more with his delicious pepper sauce. If you try the Restaurant his Roit is a must! It is so soft and delicious!

Another great escape on Nicollet; Trinidad delights – Not many in the place when we entered but the food was surely great. We arrived on a friday with a group of 6; no problems. The cook/server was very knowledgeable of the food & drinks and took time to explain them to my group. The atmosphere is nothing amazing but is a bare bones Trinidad style cafeteria. The roti (filled pita style dish) comes in almost every meat & also vegetarian. Bring a few people and try a lot; the wings are great!!!

Great Food, Friendly Service – I always thought it was funny to see restaurants called "chef driven" or "chef owned and operated" about lavish million dollar hotspots when you can say the same for this tiny little hole in the wall. Harry Singh may have had to move his restaurant to many different spots in town, but thank goodness he always opens up. He's bold enough to put his name right on the front and for good reason; his food is fantastic! My personal favorite is the goat curry. Just tons and tons of goat meat stewed until tender. Milder than lamb, pleasantly gamier than beef, mixed with a ton of vegetables that are obviously added later during cooking. The carrots are perfectly cooked through, never mushy, the cabbage with enough bite (and minus the stinkiness), signaling that it had been just slightly underdone, which is exactly how I like most of my vegetables. The curry is sitting atop a pile of fluffy rice, and though it seems a bit pricey at $16.95, I dare you to finish that entire plate by yourself. If that's a little beyond your budget, try the goat roti, the same curry wrapped up in their tender chewy roti-dhalpourrie (flat bread), a steal at only $9.95.

I also love their jerk-chicken, spicy and smoky at the same time. The chicken just drips off the bone, it's so juicy and moist.

If you find that your food isn't spicy enough, the next time you order, just specify that you would like it hotter and Harry will heat it up. If you don't, it will come out "mild" or "average" and it says so right on the menu. And even if you forget to ask for it "medium-hot", "super-hot", or "hot-hot" (which is apparently hotter than "super-hot"), there is a bottle of Harry Singh's famous hot sauce (you can buy a bottle for a measly $7.50!) sitting right at the table that you can pour all over your food until you can't taste anymore and your eyes melt out of your skull. Now is it hot enough for you?

Favorite Caribbean restaurant adding a hint of spice to Midwestern life. – In Short
This is definitely a dress-down spot, with reggae music on the hi-fi and decor that can only be called West Indies kitsch. While wall art includes the high-profile ad campaign of the 1980s that touted the restaurant's reputation for fiery fare, most of the dishes feature only mild spicing. Rice or roti (a flat bread made of ground peas) is the base of most entrees. Fillings include curries--potato, chicken, goat--Creole mixtures, and vegetarian rice-and-bean combos.

Gimme some water – Read reviews and decided to go...well I don't regret it....besides after that I visited it 2 more times in the same month!!...

Great food...but spicy....so beware if you cannot handle it...

the jerk chicken is awesome!!...

..well this place doesn't take credit card..cash only..so make sure u have some..food is not costly at all and u'll get a lot for less!!!!

Harry Singh's, For Food That Stings – If the Twin Cities has one perfect restaurant, this may be it. Tastier food than you'll find anywhere else, good value for your money, plenty for vegetarians, and far better Carribean fare than you'll find in the trendier places in town. Everything, including the spices and sauces, is handmade by Harry himself on the premises. Including the world's hottest hot sauces! Harry himself will probably be out to make sure you're satisfied, and even if you're not back for another six months, they'll remember you.
