Low Quality – Went there on a Friday expecting too much based on the reviews here. First, there was nobody in the place at 9:30pm so could pretty much sit anywhere. Waitress sat us tossed some menus and napkins with silverware on the table to organize ourselves. We ordered water and I ordered some Chardonnay from Calif. She comes back with a mini tumbler of red wine and the waters. I pointed out that I asked for the chardonnay and she corrected it bringing me a dirty shot glass with very bad wine. My dates water glass was dirty as well. So we ordered the calamari to start which they brought out with just lemon to squeeze on it, so I called her back and asked if they have any kind of sauce and she stated that it wasn't normal but she could bring out some yogurt sauce. It was presented in 4 tiny plastic containers to open and pour in a cup yourself. The cooks seem very lazy here which they all were Hispanic and greeted my girlfriend with Ola!! So we tried to eat the blah squid and ate a greek salad with cubed feta and no cucumbers..? I had the Lamb kabobs which tasted good but were small compared to Santorini and was served with overcooked soggy green beans. Save your money and Go to Santorinis instead or Christos.
One of the Lyn-Lake neighborhood's most popular eateries. – The Scene
Every night, the place bustles with couples, small families and intimate clusters of friends devouring spicy-hot feta cheese spread, roast leg of lamb or vegetarian dolmade. The restaurant is casual and welcoming, with high pressed-tin ceilings, painted wall murals and terra-cotta-like tiled floors.
The menu offers nearly two dozen appetizer options to precede classic Greek specialties such as souvlakia and spanakopita. Several vegetarian dishes--including a combo plate bearing a tasty meatless moussaka--also have made successful debuts. Yet the lamb is often dry, and the Greek side salads are heavy on the iceberg lettuce. But the regulars here adore the warm, friendly atmosphere, the hearty servings and the near-Uptown location. Perhaps that's why, after years of commanding the corner of Lyndale Avenue and Lake Street, this restaurant has become a neighborhood institution.
A homey yet lively atmosphere is only half the appeal of Its Greek to Methe fantastic Greek food is the other half. Start off with Saganaki, a flaming cheese appetizer which the waiter lights on fire at your table. (Feel free to shout along with an Opah!) Then move on to the Dolmades, stuffed grape leaves with the lemon egg drop soup. The servings are hearty so make sure you save room for galaktoboureko and Greek coffee for dessert. The outdoor seating is worth the wait in the summertime. The sounds of the noisy street are muffled and you forget youre in the city. For my friends, this is our favorite restaurant for a group night out.
Best Greek food in town!!! – If you have a craving for tasty Greek food, this will probaby be your best bet in the Twin Cities. The service is mediocre, but the quality of the food by far overcomes the mediocrity of the staff. The atmosphere is excellent, tables are spaced generously and evenly, and the outside dining is fantastic, weather permitting. Parking is a bit of a hassle at times but once you find a spot, it's worth it. Keep up the good work, It's Greek To Me!!!
It's Great to Me! – An excellent time! Despite the crowd waiting to be seated, things were carried out in an organized manner and we were seated well prior to our indicated wait time. Comfortable seating with a simple yet authentic scene, we noticed a fun Greek cooking staff working on some aromatic dishes.
The appetizers were very pleasing. I recommend the baked Feta complemented with garlic, olive oil, and a variety of peppers and tomatoes. The grilled octopus is a nice change for more adventurous diners.
The wait staff was very prompt and reasonably knowledgable with the dishes. A warning to those with smaller appetites: the portions upon arrival were very large! Both the gyro and shrimp dinners were very flavorful!
Finishing the meal with some greek coffee made for a wonderful authentic experience with very reasonable prices. Do not hesitate to try out a fun new experience.
Great Place – We have been here twice. It's always delicious food and drinks with excellent service. We always make a reseveration though....just to be on the safe side. Parking is a little crazy, but you can usually find something a couple blocks away. My husband has been to Greece and he considers It's Greek to Me to be extreamly authentic. Make sure to try the coffee, it's always wonderful. :)
Dining Delight! – Everytime we head to Its Greek to Me it is truly a Dining Delight. From the moment you set foot into this restaurant you feel as if you are apart of their family. The service is good. The food is hearty and delicious. And the desserts are to die for! The selection of Greek wines is wonderful and we make it a point to try a different one with each visit. Also the atmosphere is reminiscent of the casual loving Greek culture. Great Twin Cities eatery!
It's "just okay" to me. – I've tried and tried and have wanted to really like this place, but the food just isn't that special. Ho-hum. I've always had great service and good seating but if I'm going to eat Greek food, I know I can find more flavorful dishes at Gardens of Salonica or even Santorini.
It's Great to Me – Awesome. My husband and I have been going for a good 8 years and love it. The food is exceptional and the variety of Greek wines is great. The spicy feta cheese spread is so good, I now make it myself! Make a reservation if going on a weekend.
This Greek isn't meek – I go here frequently and like it a lot. In general the food isn't greasy (which is a typical complaint of mine with some Greek dishes) and the menu has great selection. I recommend the calamari appetizer as well as the flaming cheese. The patio is great in the summer.
