I just went there for the first time about a week ago. I thought the students and staff were great! I love my new cut! Everybody there is sharp looking and I was told that "this was the first progressive school in the country." It was hard to believe this was a school.

The gals at the front desk act like you should be begging for their attention. This fits my view of Aveda grads and soon to be grads as "uppity"-I had a couple of questions and got a flat"I don't know."My student was enthusiastic, talented and kind but by the time the teacher tries to sell you some product during the skin analysis there isn't much of your hour left. Was my facial a half an hour?It wasn't an hour ,did not include steam or extractions and cost $45 before the tip.Wouldn't I be better off with a full hour and a licensed esthetician?Even if I wanted to see my student again I probably couldn't because the front desk could only give me her first name-a common one and no last initial.I filled out some bogus survey at the end that basically asked me if I was suggestively sold and asked nothing about how I enjoyed my service or if I would be back.If my student had been average I would have been steamed but now I can just remember why it has been so long since I was there last. This was Not worth the hassle parking and NOT worth the $ !

really useless people – The place looked a little crowded with a lot of students experimenting a lot of stuff..

I was in for a haircut.

I was taken in on time. The student I was with was Jill G. She was awfully right from the beginning. The scalp and shoulder massage together did not last more than 30 secs. I showed what kind of style I wanted from a photo. She shampooed my hair but left it really wet. There was water dripping on my face but she did not even notice.

The moment she took the scissors and comb in her hand I knew this was going to be bad. She was clumsy and sooo not meant for this job. She was panting non-stop. He instructor came around a couple of times but pretty much did nothing. After a few minutes she said she was done and brought her instructor. She did not even ask me how I thot it was. There was hair around my neck which she did not cut, she forgot the sideburns and she did not trim the edges. I somehow got her to do those. Then for the last shampoo, she brought an ugly looking hot towel to put on my face. Looking at the towel I told her I'l rather not have the hot towel. She got my shirt wet too.

Aveda may not be a bad place, but this girl was horrible. Try to get someone else if they give u Jill...

Great – I have always been afraid to let someone new cut my hair, but seeing as I am a full time student I decided to go with the inexpensive option of Aveda. I am really glad I did. Even after I am no longer a student I will continue going to Aveda Institute.

My appointment was at 8:15, but was called back about 8:30. Although the appointment lasted until about 10:30, it was well worth it. The students are very thorough and an instructor will come around before the student starts cutting, while the student is cutting, and after the student is finished. My student didn't have any problems, the instructor didn't need to fix anything on my hair; however, someone next to me did have to have the instructor fix a little bit.

There are a few reasons it takes about 2 hours for each appointment. First, they will massage your head, neck, shoulders. Second, the students are a little slower, but I think it is good that they don't rush through, seems more thorough then other salons.

Afterwards they will give you a hand massage and do a little make up for you, however, I didn't have them do the make up.

Once it is all said and done the student will walk you to the cashier and fill a basket with all the Aveda products they used on your hair. They are enticing you to purchase the products, however, they aren't extremely pushy. I didn't purchase any and I only had to say "No thank you" once.

In addition to the already low price, they provide a 20% off student discount!

Ultimately, they are helpful, friendly, provide quality service, and to top it off they pamper you! I will definitely be getting my future cuts at Aveda.

AMAZING service – I've been going to aveda for as long as I can remember now. They have reasonable prices, and I've usually gotten free massages while I get my hair cut. I will never go to another place to get my hair done!

I've institued Aveda into my life – Great service!! The (minor) wait is worth it! I am always a little hesitant to have someone cut my hair (especially students) since my genes encode for the most unmanageable curly hair known to mankind. A series of horrific haircuts in my youth has led to a general distrust of hairdressers. Aveda Institute has been my saving grace, as I've never experienced a bad haircut from any of the students. When considering applying a relaxer to my hair, I had an opportunity to talk with a non-student consultant. I was appreciative that she was honest with me and didn't try talking me into doing something that would have ultimately caused more damage than good. The service has only improved over the years I've been a customer. It's almost ridiculous how much they pamper you for such reasonably priced haircuts.

I have been going to Aveda for as long as I've been in Minneapolis and will continue to support this institute. Oh, and the $11.50 haircut with the student discount is AWESOME. Thanks for making me feel fabulous every time I step out the door!

Patience is a virtue – I've had mixed experiences at Aveda. The first time was fine-just got a trim. The next time I tried a cut and swirl (a few highlights around the face). After 2 hours of the sylist combing my hair and taking little snips off, the instructor pretty much did my whole haircut in 10 minuts. So, still not a bad deal. The last 2 times I've had a fabulous student named Jessica, who is very professional. You have to know what you want and make sure to communicate that up front. They pull out hair color samples and you agree to it. I plan to keep going for hair.

I've also had a good facial there.

My only gripe is the pedicures. They don't have typical massage chairs, and they don't even use water. It's basically like paying someone $20 to literally paint your toenails. I paid the extra $5 to get a mask with steamy towels, and that was the best part. But, overall, I was not impressed. I could have painted my own toes. I would spend the extra money for a real pedicure...and I'm cheap! :)

I hope I don't "deserve an Aveda experience"... – It took several minutes for the receptionist to even acknowledge me, and once she did, she didn't respond to my greeting, she simply told to sign a paper and sit down until someone called my name. I was almost convinced that I'd walked into a doctor's office or train station by mistake.

After waiting in a crowded waiting area with uncomfortable seating, my name was yelled out by a young man with terrible personal hygiene and even worse manners. He was polite at first, but once he began cutting my hair he jerked my head around and would show irritation when I didn't keep my head in the position he wanted.

His styling was sloppy and he didn't straighten my hair even after I requested it. His instructor had to fix almost the entire hair cut and she didn't even let him touch my bangs. I asked to see the back of my hair but no one offered me a mirror to do so. Thankfully, there were no surprises once I got home.

Once the awkward haircut was over, it got even more awkward when he led me on a detour through their store section and filled a basket with the products he'd used, bringing it to the register. I politely refused, but still felt pressured to by them. When I asked earlier about their tip policy he said that they didn't accept them but he still waited expectantly when the receptionist asked if I wanted money back ,while I was paying with a card, for "my student." I felt pressured and embarrassed so I gave him an overly generous tip. Then again, any tip would have been overly generous.

I understand that these are students, and I also understand that it is a learning experience, but they should know how to treat their customers with common courtesy.

Worth it – It takes about two hours to get a haircut here, because the student is still learning and needs to check in with his/her instructor a few times during the cut. It's worth it, though--it only costs $15, and the last two haircuts I got there were the best I got in years. The students listen to exactly what the customer wants.

a really good experience- a really good haircolor – I had my haircolor done by student Jazzmin- a budding haircolor expert. She was a bit reserved but I LOVED my cute new reddish and gold color. She knew just what I wanted before the Instructor came over and she needed no help. I'm coming back to her before she graduates!
