The Scene
Celebrated architect Henry Wild Jones designed this Normandy-style château in 1887 and lived in it until 1935. This quaint property is a good base for exploring the nature trails that surround its tree-filled neighborhood. It's also nicely situated for visiting area attractions and activities, such as the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Mall of America and the Guthrie Theatre. Despite its rich details, the house offers a relaxed atmosphere that's often associated with casual Midwest hospitality.
The Details
The first-floor living space displays Jones's trademark beamed ceiling and Inglenook fireplace. A pair of guest rooms can be found on the second floor, and the third story houses a two-bedroom suite and a bath. Furnishings shun Victorian fussiness, and knickknacks are kept to a minimum.
