My boyfriend and I came to Wixon Jewelers after I found that they specialize in estate jewelry pieces, specifically engagement rings. We had been to other jewelry stores, but the service we received from Jason K. at Wixon blew us away! He was extremely knowledgeable and patient in sitting down to educate us, answer all of our questions and show us a lot of different ring styles. He even brought out loose diamonds from the vault to show us the differences in the 4C's. No other jewelry store had taken the initiative to do this. We never felt pressured to buy, however we did purchase an original estate ring from the 1920’s that I fell in love with. The service did not end there. They were very accommodating to our needs as we live about an hour and half south of the Twin Cities and Jason was very responsive to follow up phone calls or e-mails in answering additional questions or concerns. My boyfriend even commented that when we went back to pick up the ring a couple weeks later, he really felt that he was a person who mattered to their jewelry store, not just a number they rush out the door after they have already received your business. The employees who were behind the counter at the time were also giving us their undivided attention and seemed genuinely excited for us. I highly encourage you to seek out the excellent selection and customer service at Wixon Jewelers. We are now loyal customers after one visit and can’t wait to give them our future business when we pick out wedding bands!

Best place to find a Rolex, hands down. I have been to several stores around the country but Wixons have the best staff because of their high level of knowledge and they're not on commission.

The place to go for Rolex watches... – I recently wanted to purchase a watch for my son’s college graduation but I had no idea what kind of watch to get him. I had heard that Wixon Jewelers had a lot of Rolex watches so I thought that would be a good place to start. I am someone knowledgeable about fine jewelry but when it comes to watches I was a little clueless, but not for long. The people there were very friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my visit because they were so informative about all the watch lines they sell and when they told me some facts about how they are made - I soon had a new appreciation for watches or as they say “fine timepieces”. After looking at a couple other watches; an IWC and a Jaeger, I ended up purchasing a Rolex for my son and I’m sure he’s going to love it. At least I know if he doesn’t the folks at Wixon Jewelers ensured me that they will be there to help him choose the right one for him!

Wixon's – Wixon’s Jewler’s, located in the nether land of suburban Bloomington, MN distinguishes itself with a selection from the world of haute horology as improbable as stumbling across a Bugatti dealership driving east out of Omaha. Minute repeaters, annual calendars and tourbillions from the storied workshops in Geneva and Schaffenhausen with prices in the 5 and 6 digit range illuminate display cases in mute testimony to the rising tide of wealth that has washed over the Upper Midwest in the past 20 years as well as the synergy that can develop between MSP airport and the draw of the nearby Mall of America as a shopping destination.

Sales staff is knowledgeable, friendly and attentive although, particularly on the jewelry side, in the best tradition of Glenn Murry, Glenn Ross, always closing. The store itself is pure Minnesota and seems to have taken its design cues from a mix of the Perkins restaurant chain and “the cabin up North.” Except for the usual two door entry system, there is little to indicate that one has entered the world of high end jewelry, which comes across as reassuring, since on first consideration, it would seem that since Wixon’s is clearly not paying Madison Ave or Place Vendome rent, let alone hiring Copard’s decorators, the cost savings could be passed along.

Unfortunately, it would seem that the opposite is the case. Prices seem to be significantly higher at Wixon’s than at competing jewelers, and the customer is advised to beware.

Let me give an example.

This summer while bringing a PP ref. 5127 in for a new band, a bracelet caught my eye. The piece was an A. Link manufactured “Lattice” 48 stone round cut 60/60 brilliant average color G, grade VS1 –SI line (tennis) bracelet. List price $31,900. After asking, via e-mail, salesmen wrote, again via e-mail, he could give me a deal at $28,900. I was in no rush to buy and a bit later found the same bracelet; A. Lange manufactured “Lattice” 48 stone round cut 60/60 brilliant average color G, grade VS1 – SI on sale at Betteridge in Greenwich, CT listed at $22,000 and after my asking, for sale at $17,000. I let Dan Wixon, who owns Wixons’s know this and he communicate to me, again via e-mail,that the new price for the bracelet at Wixon’s was $16,700.

In summary, Wixon’s was willing to sell a piece for $31,900 or with a bit of negotiating for $16,700. A $15,200 swing. I expect this sort of thing when buying flip flops in an outdoor market in Cairo but not buying jewelry in Minnesota. Since the guy in CT seemed pretty enthusiastic about making the sale at 17K my guess is that this price represents a reasonable mark up from wholesale.

So why is it that the initial negotiated price for the same bracelet from a full service, retail, authorized dealer is 17K Greenwich, CT but 28.9K in Bloomington, MN?

This is purely speculative of course, but my suspicion is that Wixon’s isolation, a near absence of competition in the upper segment of the market in this region, and the average Minnesotans reluctance to bargain, all play into this. Ultimately, these factors seem to end up allowing Wixon’s to charge and be paid prices significantly higher than a jeweler could in places where many jewelers in close proximity to each other are each operating in the same market space.

Therefore, based on my experience, if you find yourself dealing with Wixon’s I’d recommend treading with extreme caution, being ready to negotiate hard with the sales staff, or to simply sparing yourself the grief and avoiding the place altogether. And keep this in mind, at the premiums they are charging you and your spouse/partner could fly to New York, spend a few days at a nice hotel, see a couple of shows, buy the same piece of jewelry you were going to get at Wixon’ s and still come home with enough money left over to take the family to the Bahamas and warm up for a week this February, which in Minnesota, might not be such a bad plan.

THE Best Jeweler/Watch shop in upper Midwest. Period. – This is only TRUE high-end jeweler in Minnesota that has an EDUCATED STAFF. Everyone is friendly, non-pretentious, and service is superb. It's the only watch store I would consider buying from....the only watch store with master watchmakers on staff. By far and away the best watch collection that I've seen other than in New York or LA. Wixon KNOWS watches. My wife loves the place......I wish I knew about this jeweler when I bought my wife's wedding ring.

A great place to buy watches – I just bought my 3rd watch (A Rolex this time) from Wixon Jewelers. I travel for my job, so I indulge in my passion for watches by going to other stores around the country...mostly east coast. I keep going back to Wixon's. They carry all the great watches. Wixon Jewelers sales people are incredibly knowledgable on watches. You'd be surprised how little some people know in the stores I've been in. They have big bucks invested in the watches, they carry the biggest collections I' ve seen- Patek in particular. They are great people there, nice to do business with.

Wixon's does NOT stand behind the products they sell. – I received an engraved ring as a gift from my husband. Less than one year later I returned it because a stone fell out and others were chipping. They did fix it at no charge. At that time they showed me the stones in their gem book and said they were the second hardest ranking, so that shouldn't have happened. I didn't notice until later that they had polished out the inscription inside. Six months later it was doing the same thing again. I went back and was told that they had discontinued this particular type of setting because it wasn't reliable. This was the first time I had been told this. Also, it would cost me quite a bit to make it wearable again. At this time (for the first time) they said it was a special occasion ring. This had never been mentioned to me before. I do not do heavy work with my hands and have never had a problem with other rings. This ring has a special meaning to me as my husband is now deceased. Whenever I look at the ring I loved so much, I get angry feelings.

awesome customer service – We had such a great experience with Wixon Jewelers. We bought my engagement ring there, as well as the bands. I highly recommend it. The folks there don't work on commission, which means they don't try to upsell, they are super helpful, the selection is awesome, and there are goldsmiths on the premises. When I first got my engagement ring, it was like a quarter of a size too small. We took it in one evening (I was soooo sad, thinking they would have to take my ring for a couple of days) and one of the goldsmiths did it in an hour. And if you stop in, request my girls Gina and Connie. They were tremendously awesome and helpful.

Best High End Jewelry Selection – I was looking for a 20 year anniversary gift for my wife and this store had the largest pink saphire in display. What's amazing is they have Rolexes and a lot of unique expensive jewelry designed and made in-store. I went to all the top jewelers in the twin cities, rated by citysearch and yahoo but found this store through a family friend. Even the other stores that shipped in gems from out of state was not able to beat the price and size of stones that the store has. Look for Connie Bonk. Excellent service and they are not on commission.
