Re: At "one time" a great place to save... – Here's the thing about Savers. They're a FOR PROFIT company with non-profit partners. Everything you see in the store is donated by members of the community (donating in the red bins or at the community donation center on site) or delivered to the store by either The Disabled American Veteran's of MN or The MN Epilepsy Foundation. These non-profit partners are paid by Savers for every single item (even if the items are unsellable) that is donated. Savers DOES NOT purchase any items from any retailer at a steep discount. The company is completely donation based.
As for their prices- yeah, they've gone up. However, so has the price of gas, butter, milk, etc. The list goes on and on.
I'm proud of Savers for finally realizing how much money they were being taken for -nice bunch of people that work hard.
Clearly they are missing some pretty big brand name increases, though: Today, I picked up a J. Crew sweater (originally priced at $280 -because I bought the same one full price at J. Crew) for $9.99. Just ridiculous.
At "one time" a great place to save... – At one time Savers was a great place to save some money (and get great deals). However, they have steadily began to increase their prices, especially on name brand items.
I recently overheard a Savers employee explain to a customer that the management/company has given direction to increase prices on items. The employee said that they didn't agree with or understand this, as now at Savers you are paying practically the same price that you would pay at say Walmart for the same item. Note: at Walmart you can easily "return" the item, where you can't at savers and can only exchange the item within 7 days.
I have observed first hand and been very frustrated by the steady price increases at Savers. Now, even if they have the 30-50% off sale, you are still paying more as the prices have increased so much.
I only give one star, because I can't go lower. Not nice Savers as many of your items are donated or purchased at a steep discount and you now want to charge retail prices. No thanks, I'll just buy new and from some where that I can return an item and get my money back if need be.
