A review late in coming . . . – As an adult, I still have childhood memories of the spare ribs from Hackenmeullers in Robbinsdale. We lived on Yates Ave. N, and from our house, it was a short walk over there - down to the end of the street and across the highway.
It has been 50+ years since we left and to this day, I remember their spare ribs! None has ever risen to meet the flavor and quality of what they served. I have heard that the business has changed hands since then but that the ribs are just as great as they were back then!
Soon I will be moving back into the area, and am looking forward to taking my daughter with me to share in the great memories I've had all these years of Hackenmeuller's.

One of my favorite butcher shops – I will never, ever get ribs any where else other than at Hacks. Then there is their Prime Rib roast. Marinated chicken breasts. I don't have a lot of money to spend. But how expensive is it to through meat away because it's to tough to eat? My kids are always hanging out on Hacks day to unload the car. Why? Cause mom bought a fist full of real Jerky they can munch on while the ribs are on the grill.
Simply kick ass, nu doubt about it. – This place simply rocks. Last of dying breed of butcher shop. The stuffed pork chops, the spiral cut ham and the jerky are particularly good. But the steaks are awesome as well. You CANNOT go wrong.
Hackenmueller's Hours – We've been going to Hackenmueller's for about the last year, and have been impressed by all the different items we've had. The turkey jerky is top shelf, the picnic ham slices are great, and their cuts of meat are phenomenal. In fact, we just picked up some lamb chops (although they only come frozen) a few days ago. I normally detest lamb as most places we've been it ends up smelling and tasting like it was just peeled off the road. Hackenmueller's came through once again, the meat smelled clean and the curry we made turned out just right. As the others here can attest, we think they're great with the exception of their lack of presence on the Internet or having an answering machine message. Here are the hours that are posted on their door as of 1/11/09:
This is completely unsolicited, just hope others find this helpful.
Hackenmuller's is worth the drive from where ever you are, but apparently they can't afford to put their hours on an answering machine or have any web presents – I don't know of any better butcher shops in Minnesota then Hackenmueller's. There may be some as good but I doubt that there are any better. I drive 14.7 miles to get their shop.
I'm Scandinavian and at Christmas time I always go there for their Swedish Sausage...it's the best. I usually get five rings of it. We'll have some on Christmas Eve and I also cook up a couple of rings for sandwiches over the next couple of days.
I always pick up a pound of their Turkey Jerky as well to share at family get togethers. I cut it up into small bite size chunks. It is amazingly good everybody loves it. Hackenmueller's jerky makes the stuff you get at regular stores seem like dog food.
Their steaks: slam dunk, their Hams: smoked on site...awsome, Bacon...ya!, ...ok you get the idea.
This endorsement is completely unsolicited...I don't know any of the peeps that work there...actually...It's 11pm December 23rd and I was attempting to go on line to see what time they were open tomorrow...I have to pick up some Swedish Sausage. No web site...no hours posted...not even a answering machine, let alone a message on it! No matter how good their meats are...that is very lame. They need to ramp it up to at least 80's communications standards. That's it for now...
Wonderful service and top quality products – I am not a huge fan of meat in general and when I see the tubes of ground beef at the local grocery stores I can't believe that people buy them. At Hackenmullers you can always see the meat and it smells fresh and clean. They also have top service. When I was preganant and now that I have a little one they always insisted on carrying out my order. They also offer cooking tips, requested cutting, and special orders. Coming from a NYC Italian family I have never found the meat cuts I need for some reciepes in MN (like cheek meat) and they always are willing to get in what ever I request. Great place to shop!
Wonderful – I've gone to Hackenmuiller Meats for years and have never had a bad experience. Their meat is top quality - their service is second to none. They are extremely helpful when it comes to trying to figure out the best cut of meat for the meal you are preparing. They instruct (if asked) on the best way to prepare what you have purchased. It's wonderful to hear them referring to their long standing customers by first name. . .show's a place that is customer satisfaction based.
If nothing else. . . .you have GOT to at LEAST try their home made Beef Potpie. . . . .it is OUT OF THIS WORLD good and so reasonable priced it's almost scary.
Not to mention being able to order your fresh - not frozen - turkey (with their help) and pick it up the day before Thanksgiving. No more paying stupid Grocey Store prices and then having to thaw out a turkey that may have been processed MONTHS ago.
Best quality meats and homemade sausage, best service anywhere. I buy whenever I am having company. – Highly recommended. Hackenmueller's is a friendly, hometown style butcher shop in downtown Robbinsdale, MN. You will find them very helpful -- they will recommend how much to buy and tell you how to cook it so that it comes out just right.
