Couldn't do business with them if I tried – I called Remember Me to ask a question. When the phone was answered I asked the woman's name and she told me Diane. I asked if she was the manager and she rambled on about not being able to run something and that she would call me back. I told her I didn't need her to call me back, but just the manager's name. She said she would call me back. Again, I told her that I just needed to manager's name. And then Diane hung up on me.
So....this place only has one phone line??? Wow....and evidently they don't need new customers, because they hang up on people when they call with simple questions. I wouldn't spend a dime here. Hopefully people read these reviews before they decide to spend their money there.
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE!!! – HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE! I'm a hairstylist and bartender and talk to a TON of people in a day. I have told EVERYONE about how insulting and rude the lady is from Remember Me. I was in a hurry one day to find an 80's outfit for work and received a phone call from a friend saying he had been in the hospital the night before. There was ONE customer in the store besides me. I dreaded going into Remember Me because I had bad experiences before from the dreaded lady who works there.
She approached me as I was looking at the 80's section of their over-priced clothes and talking to my friend to make sure he was ok. I wasn't talking loudly and just wanted to get in there, purchase my items and go because I was on tight schedule. She asked me what I was looking for, I explained, she started pulling items out to show me, I let her know I was just going to browse and continued my conversation as I was looking. She loudly told me NO! No, I was going to "browse" while on my cell phone because it was disturbing to customers!!!! She told me to get off my phone or leave if I wanted to talk to my phone. My friend who was on the phone owns a couple very successful businesses and heard what she said, he was just as floored as I was by her rude behavoir and attitude. I told her fine then slammed the door as I walked out. I was so angry that I ended up calling there after I left and she asked me in a RUDE manner "What is it I can do for you?" I told her she shouldn't talk to people like that and she hung up on me!
After telling every person I know about that horrid lady, I found out that many others had the same thing happen and have left as well. Since when is it a crime to shop and talk on the phone? I know of a local business who wears a lot of costumes and the employees refuse to spend their money there because of this same lady. I honestly can't see how this business will be successful and who this lady thinks she is. In business, you are supposed to be friendly and helpful, it's almost like this woman WANTS to run her business in the ground and she is being successful at ONLY that. For 1 bad experience that person tells at least 10 people who go on the tell another 10 people and so on. Save your time and money and NEVER go to Remember Me Costume shop in Soulard!!!
Great Costumes / Vintage Clothes – This place is a recyclers dream!
They have all types of fantastic vintage, like back before vintage was cool. The selection of costumes and things to make costumes are amazing!
I went during Mardi Gras and got a cool Purple pimp costume to sport during the parade. I know they have a great selection of beads every year!
You MUST check this place out whenever you're in town!
Not worth the hassle – We were thrilled to find out that Remember me had a replica of the hot pink dress that Marilyn Monroe wore during "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend", as we had hired a local noted actress for an upcoming event to play Marilyn Monroe.
The dress? A decent replica
The experience? NOT WORTH THE HASSLE AND UNEXPECTED COST.
I had read the numerous negative reviews online of Remember Me and foolishly ignored them, taking into account that online reviews are not always accurate. I urge you- please do NOT make the same mistake that I did. You will gravely regret it.
The staff at Remember Me is unreasonable, unprofessional, and rude with little to no professional courtesy or policy set in place. Despite having placed a HEFTY deposit and full payment on the costume 3 days before and distinct instructions on who would be picking up the item... the owner would not release the dress to our actress as requested, stating that "she wouldn't return it- as the actresses never do". As far as I am concerned, if you PAY for the costume and put a HUGE DEPOSIT on it... it shouldn't matter WHO is picking it up or wearing it?! Period. When we had originally GIVEN her those instructions during our order... it wasn't an issue. At the time the actress was to pick it up, however, it became a huge circus. I urged the release over and over to the owner over the phone, in between panicked calls from the actress (from her cell standing RIGHT NEXT to the owner who was on the phone with me) who was already late to an event. She wanted extra paperwork. She wanted signatures. She wanted blah, blah, blah. All at which point I would have given her just to have the darn dress released. I then found out that the owner doesn't have internet. She also refused to fax me as I "live in West County, and she would have to dial a 1, making it long distance". SERIOUSLY???? She wanted me to personally drive down to Soulard, which I refused to do.
Rather than following through with our contract as agreed, the owner created a lengthy and ridiculous round-robin of chaos between me, my assistant, the actress, and Talent Plus- who manages this actress. This disagreement lasted until 7PM the evening before the event, creating unnecessary stress and strain on all involved. It was an absolute nightmare. What should have been a SIMPLE process of picking up a costume turned into 3 HOURS of drama, arguing, threats, and chaos... making the evening before my event (when I should have been tending to other details)... a disaster.
As a whole, the owner was disrespectful to not only me and the actress that I hired, but Talent Plus- one of the largest and most reputable talent agencies in the city. All parties involved, other than the staff of Remember Me, are highly reputable professionals with a strong ethic. Remember Me's accusations and behavior we not only offensive, but hurtful.
In addition to the chaos that ensued at the hands of the staff, NOTE... the bill was exorbitantly higher than we had been originally quoted. DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT rent accessories from Remember Me. Her price for rental is significantly higher that normal resale at a store like ABC Trading Company. Note- we were stuck with her accessories, as she wouldn't release the costume or final itemized bill until the 9th hour when it was too late to go elsewhere.
There are so many other places in the city that offer costume rental. I urge you NOT to patronize Remember Me in Soulard. It is not worth the hassle, I promise.
The worst costumer service EVER – The women that work here are old and hateful! Their selection is pretty good, but you had better go in early and know EXACTLY what you want. They won't let you browse rentals. They barely discuss anything with you. They can't handle any amount of business without freaking out, getting overwhelmed, and resulting to pure rudeness. Their location and pretty decent costumes are what keeps them in business. Recommended only if you have a very high tolerance for bad attitudes.
The worst service I have ever experienced – The older woman who works at the store is completely rude. She spent about 5 minutes with me while I tried on 3 costumes and felt she was overworked. She would not give any suggestions. When the costume did not fit, she would not discuss it and even though I only took them home and brought back 20 minutes later, she charged me anyway. I called and asked to speak to the owner, she would not give me the number and cursed and hung up. It was unbelievable.
RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE – Lets just say my last visit to REMEMBER ME will be my final visit!!! This is a COSTUME shop and I find it silly you really aren't able to browse the store to get ideas. The Owner acts as its a huge inconvenience to attend on a paying customer's needs. I will say if you are seeking vintage costume rentals The Vintage Haberdashery in South City Saint Louis has MUCH friendlier service and the rental prices are better. I also took about a half hour drive to Belleville Illinois to the CenterStage costume shop where the OWNER was rather friendly and had excellent customer service. The BONUS with Center stage they had some of the same costumes Remember me had but her rental price was almost 30.00 less!!!! I Don't know how Remember me stays in business with such rude customer service!
Worst customer service. – I called to see if they would hold a Halloween item that I had previously seen in the store so that my husband could pick it up. Complaint #1: I called at 10:50am. She answered the phone with, "Remember Me, we aren't open." I began to ask her my quick question and she responded with, "If you call back between 11am and 7pm I will help you. Not now." 10 minutes? She couldn't just quickly answer my question? Why answer the phone then? Complaint #2: I called back an hour later after they were open to ask her to hold the item. She said, "Is it paid for?" I said, "No, but my husband will be right in and he won't know how to find the item." She said, "You call me when he is here." Then she hung up on me.
remember me not – this place deserves zero stars but i guess i had to click one..i just wanted to add to what others said..it has been a long time since i have been to this store but several halloweens ago i needed a costume & i thought it was very silly that i could not look around ..the lady pretty much implied that i needed to know what exactly what i was looking for..she didnt want me to browse..
Average selection, even worse customer service – I am not surprised that others have remarked on this business's non-existent customer service. Any accolades this establishment has received are exaggerations at best. Their costume selections are average - but this wouldn't be a problem if the proprietor didn't exhibit an egregious disdain for her own customers. I went into this shoppe with my mother and aunt, intent on either renting or purchasing apparel. I rent costumes and purchase vintage clothing and accessories regularly; this was my first and last visit to this store. The proprietor greeted us by telling us to get out if we were there to only browse. We were taken aback; I tried to look at some of her selections (how can one shop if not to browse collections??) but the proprietor repeated herself. I was offended, my elderly aunt and mother were embarrassed, and we left tout de suite. I will not make the mistake of patronizing this shop again nor will I recommend it others, especially when so many other quality vintage stores with helpful staff exist here in St. Louis.
