Does not know the meaning of customer service – This place has the worst customer service I have ever encountered! I am a foodie and love trying new places and new cuisines, and try to go to a new restaurant at least once a week. My best friend and I (along with my 1 year old) decided to try their jazz brunch. As soon as we entered the establishment, we were met with rudeness and hostility. I am not sure if this was because we are minorities and were not welcome, or the staff is like this with everyone; either way I will NEVER go back and will recommend that my friends, associates and family do the same.

Tuna Nicose Salad – We arrived at this restaurant for an early evening meal before the crowds and the service was good and attentive. I had the flash fried spinach salad and my husband had tuna nicose salad which was excellent and well presented. We were inside and as the evening progressed the noise volume increased. I am glad we came early and got the unrushed attention, good service and tasty food. Thanks.

What happened to manners, Jimmy? – I live in the DeMun neighborhood and, until recently, I loved dining at Jimmy's. The food is to die-for, the menu is vast and the ambiance--both inside and on the patio--is delightful. At least I thought it was delightful until I had lunch there this past Saturday. Five of us were dining on the patio and I would say all of us were more than content with our food. At the end of our meal, our waitress asked if we wanted to split the check--we did. We wanted three different checks and apparently she couldn't figure it out because she brought us 3 checks plus another check with just one of our Bloody Mary's on it (?). We sat there for ten minutes when a manager, Steve, came out, THREW our credit cards at us, and demanded that we find a different way to pay. I have never had a member of any waitstaff approach a table of patrons in this manner, it was appalling. I am still not sure what he was mad about but his tone and demeanor was not what I would consider suitable manners for a manager of an upscale restaurant. As I was leaving, another manager approached my friends and I and began asking us what had gone on with the waitress, not RUDE-STEVE, right in front of and within in hearing distance of other people trying to enjoy their meals. He asked me if we had told her (the waitress) that we wanted to split the check, I did not know that was a requirement--especially since his waitress ASKED if thats how we would like to pay. He told me he was going to fire this waitress, which in my opinion is highly unprofessional and distasteful. I told him that his real problem was rude-Steve but he, flippantly, replied, "That's a first" and walked away from me without saying anything else or apologizing for the horrific service. I wish that Jimmy's wait-staff/management was as good as Jimmy's food. I read another review by Melvin and he reported that he had no problem like ours, "We were rather high maintenance.. Three checks for nine people. They handled it with aplomb." Needless to say, I won't be back any time soon, if ever.

Go for sunday brunch – Check their web page and pick a Sunday morning when they are having live jazz, make a reservation and ask for a seat where you can see the musicians. Good drinks, very good food. I think they must have gotten better since those early reviews. Don't go if being really close to the next table is a problem for you.

Overcomplicated food = bad experience – I have been to Jimmy's twice now - once with girlfriends and returned with my husband this past weekend. The cocktails are nice, but I found the food to be overly complicated and consequently, less than impressive. My poor husband took 20 minutes to find anything on the menu that he even was remotely interested in ordering. Admittedly, he is no gourmet but I have never seen him not be able to find anything on a menu and we have been to several upscale places.

I ordered the Salmon Udon, my husband ordered the oatmeal encrusted chicken with mushroom sauce. The salmon dish was so complicated it was unenjoyable. Too many flavors - salmon, pasta, cilantro, peanuts, roasted red peppers, green beans - it had far too much going on. The pasta sauce on my dish was watery and not nearly thick enough to coat the pasta. I would not order it again. On the other hand, my husband's chicken dish was totally devoid of flavor. I've had better chicken at TGI Fridays. He ate about 3 bites of it. I also noticed that a table next to us sent their food back in exchange for another dish. Our waitress was kind and attentive, offering my husband another dish but considering this was the only thing on the menu he was interested in he declined.

This place might be fine for a salad and glass of wine with your girlfriends, but expect that if you drag any male party along, they will likely leave hungry. Every dish on the menu has at least 5 or 6 strong ingredients competing with the main flavor. The menu is pretentious for the sake of being pretentious.

Extremely Poor!! – Not once, not twice but THREE times I have been here with a poor experience. Very bad and unexperienced service. My most recent experience was the worst. I walk in to Jimmys at about 1045pm to have a appetizer and a cocktail with a date. The sign on the door says that they serve food til midnight so I thought no big deal. When we walked in we were looked at, not greeted by a young man in a suit. I then initiated conversation by asking him if we were to seat ourselves or if he was going to seat us. He looked at me like I said something wrong and responded "I guess". I am still not sure what that was suppossed to mean. I then took it upon myself to walk to the bar and order a drink and take a look at a menu. By this time it is close to 11pm. I ask the bartender if the kitchen was still open and she then called the young man over that was standing at the door. When she asked him if the kitchen was still open he replied with a deep sarcastic sigh and said "I suppose" as he gave a dirty look toward the bartender. Now if the place wasnt busy I would understand but there was at least 35 - 40 people there. I walked out without ordering anything after that was said. I will never return to this place!

really good food! – This place was out of the way from our downtown hotel, but well worth the $20 cab ride. Its located in a residential neighborhood, so make sure you have directions for your driver if you take a cab like we did. Everything we ordered here was wonderful. We had the Tuna tartare, the poached pear salad and the asparagus salad for starters. For entres we had the Tenderloin Anthony and were thrilled the dish. It was an excellent blend of flavors. For dessert we had the Chocolate Lava Cake...scrumptious. So far, this is the best food we've had in our week here. My husband declared that he'd fly back to St. Louis just to have that pear salad again! Service here was also excellent.
