This place was a horrible nightmare! We only tried it because I have an entertainment book and the menu in it looked very delicious! We were the only ones in the place. The server said it was her first night and acted like she had actually never seen the menu! I tried to order Eggplant Parmesan, but they were out. Then ordered salmon. It's was disgusting. I only took one bite. My boyfriend ordered Chicken Parmesan, and it was hard. I went to the register and gave the old woman my receipt, coupon, and told her the food was terrible. She still charged me full price. We then went to biggies and got a pizza to go (which was amazing). What a waste of money and time! We frown every time we drive by that place. We are convinced this must be a mob front!
Service is slow, so call ahead if possible.
Food is good and the salad dressing is one-of-a-kind. Finally, made from scratch pizza is a good change from the "corporate" pizzas I usually eat!
NEVER AGAIN!!! Giancarlo Restaurant & Bar – first off the place is a shithole!!
service sucked!! waiter was a prick!!!
we got overcharged for stuff we didnt even eat...
never saw the bill they wont let you see it
health inspector has been contacted..
i will never go there again i would rather go to the east side and eat at one of the p.o.s strip clubs i would get better service and enviroment
Good Food – First of all the pizza-AMAZING! Lets make it known I only go here for the food. With that said, the place is run by 2 ladies (a lady who is nearly 90 years old and her daughter) and sometimes they are the only 2 there so they are waiting on tables and doing the cooking. So needless to say the service is slow. Alot of times they do not open according to the hours on the door, tend to run late, so call before going to be sure they're open. They recently had a deal out on a site similar to Groupon...(where you pay $10 for a coupon that gets you $20 worth of food..you pay the $10 on your credit card up front then are able to print the coupon). The staff/owner did not understand how this worked and was trying to charge me $10 when I tried explaining to them that I already paid $10 to buy the coupon. How can you sign up for a promotion like that , that you don't understand how it works? Ordered a cannolli for dessert because it looked so good on the brochure on the table however it took a while cause they didnt have any ready and had to hand make it. When it came it had no chocolate chips in it like the picture showed. All I can say is if it wasn't for the pizza, I wouldn't be frequenting this place.
This place is DISGUSTING – I kept hearing about this place and decided to finally check it out. To begin with, the service was a joke. The food was absolutely disgusting and the restaurant itself was dirty. I will not be a returning customer!
Can you get any more Italian? – Great authentic Italian food prepared by an Italian grandma and her mother; both immigrants from Italy. As to the service, I am told that Europeans take the time to enjoy their meals, the company and conversation. It’s we Americans who ‘perfected’ fast McBurgerQueen food so we can get it over with.
If you want to experience a touch of Italy and have a great dining experience, maybe even have great grandma come out, talk to you (though her English not-a-so good), even give you a hug, if your lucky, then you can’t get any more Italian than Giancarlo’s.
What’s bon appétit in Italian?
Best Marinara/Red Sauce in STL! – New, professionally trained executive chef, Andy, is already making a difference at this STL landmark Italian restaurant-Salads are great! Best marinara and red sauce and Italian salad in STL! Love it, wanted to bring a quart of it home! It was made fresh by the owners that same afternoon. We brought in a party of 12 for a birthday-The food was Fast, fresh and delicious! Wonderful atmosphere. This isn't a typical chain restaurant-it is the real deal. Recommend the lasagna and cannaloni.
Pitiful, stay far away. – Hire experienced waiters/waitresses please, or else give them adequate training.
Need to get their act together. Extremely....slow service and food not worth it.
Don't waste your time here.
What A Joke - Mama Needs To Retire – We called on a Thursday to make reservations for a large group of 20 for Friday at 5pm (which is pretty early so you would expect good service). But no. The Bosnian busboy was called into duty to take our orders, which was made more difficult due to his lack of English skills, and somehow the orders never made it to the cook. When the appetizers came the calamari were burnt. It was three hours after I ordered my Deluxe pizza when a sausage and mushroom pizza arrived. I ate it anyway 'cause I was starved. Others in our group had similar extremely slow service. We had a large group and kept ourselves occupied with talking and visiting with out of town family. We amused ourselves by making fun of the restaurant staff. Mama told me (in her very broken English) that she is 92 years old. She looks it.
Again: The service was the worse I have ever seen. They should be embarrassed in their feeble attempt at running a restaurant. I will tell everyone I know to avoid Giancarlo's like the plague.
Beware -- terrible service and greasy food – I have heard good and bad about this place and the owner (she has a reputation for being unprofessional, especially when she gets drunk ...), but I had to see for myself, since I have also heard that the food is good and abundant.
The service was non-existent, there was a lot of screaming in the kitchen and when finally the food arrived, it was soaked in greasy sauce. Also on my way to the bathroom, I noticed that they "recycled" the bread, by placing the leftovers from one baket of customers to another basket for the new customers. The owner/chef seemed dirty and unprofessional: she was sweaty, hair everywhere and she kept drinking alcoholic beverages and screaming.
It was a very bad experience in all and expensive for the quality of food.
