Neighborhoods: Lemay, Saint Louis
HOURS will be changing – My mom owns the place and the hours will be getting longer. Contrary to online speculation, they are not closing for 6 weeks for remodeling.
The pizza is being made the way it originally was and the pasta sauce is back to normal.
PLEASE give your input as to what you would like to see added to the menu: ie, Hot wings, fried Mozarella sticks,
We will be doing away with the canned soda and will begin serving fountain soda in the near future.
Also, we are trying to obtain the proper permits to once again sell beer.
I hope you all enjoy the food!
The absolute BEST Pizza in St. Louis – I first started going there in about 1955 or 56. It was the place to go after "Teen Town". We've taken our kids and now our grandkids. We've had parties and celebrations there. The best Bacon Pizza in town and their French Fries are great too. It was here that I first had Baked Lasagna....Ohhhh! The best secret in St. Louis. Cozy...unusual yes, but friendly with great food and "real" tablecloths. Going there tonight!
PROS: Great Food, Prices, Atmosphere
CONS: None I Love it!
Apperances can be deceiving – I've lived about a mile away from Monte Bello for a few years now and only recently discovered this place. I read some online reviews so I decided to try it myself.
The place was a little difficult to find. The restaurant is in the basement of a house. They don't have a sign with their name. Just an Open sign in the window is all. Walking in I found a place with decor that has not been updated in decades.
Anyway, once you get past the appearance you find friendly service and perhaps the best St. Louis Style pizza around. The crust and sauce are homemade. Their specialty is sausage pizza made, and yes, the sausage is also homemade.
Pros: Price, Quality, family operated
Cons: Parking, Difficult to find, lack of non-smoking area, no handicap access
Pizza still real Good – I lived very close so this was hotspot in 70's and eighties I'm 44 have two grown kids and they still love it.
Rock,Beer and Montebellos all went hand and hand and of course women and some dates their for food ........Darn Good Times...........
Thin Crispy Crust Pizza – This was a regular date night stop when I was in high school back in the 70's, and with the exception of the mural being covered up on one wall it is still the same. And that is good news! It's hard to find but worth the effort; in a basement and off the beaten path and no sign to point the way. Thin, crispy (really crispy) crust on their pizza and the best homemade toasted ravioli. Your only beer choice is Bud Light in a can, but oh well, the food makes that an OK option. The owner and his wife still live upstairs and they both work the kitchen even though both are in their 80's. They make the Roquefort dressing, the italian sausage, the ravioli, and the marinara. I love it and the stroll down memory lane! "
Bacon pizza to die for. – Folks I have been going to Monte Bello's pizza since I was about 6 years old maybe sooner that is as far back as I can remember. They have an old style look with a painted murial on one wall and the other side is covered with paneling but there is old school charm behind that wood...there is a murial behind that wall as well..but I believe it may have chipped off over time..anyway my parents have eaten there when they were young adults about 15 years prior to me being born wow what staying power...Chicken is awesome bacon pizza is to die for....enjoy not many single restaurants can withstand the test of time....they have and will if someone takes over and maybe updates accordingly...
Great Pizza – I have been going here since High School. If you like thin crust, this is the best around. Same owners live above the pizza joint. Also has great toasted ravs. I am usually taking out, but it is worth the wait and I order it extra well done to get the crispiest pizza ever without being burnt. It is located off the beaten path on Weber just off of Caroldelet on the city/county line.
a little slice of history – I love this restaurant. The pizza is superb and the fried chicken is fantastic. I was introduced to this place in 1988 and have been going back since. I found out later that this is the place that my father took my mother for dinner on the night that he proposed. I will always continue to go back as long as they are in business.
