Brazie's service not so good – The main courses, side dishes and salads are very good to excellent. The wine list and desserts are fair to mediocre. Our overall experience was not good.
I made a reservation for a group of 22 people approximately 6 months in advance. I called to confirm the reservation about 2 weeks prior to the date. They had no record of the reservation. That issue was dealt with satisfactorily.
Our party was seated at about 6:45. We left at 10 PM. We had one waitress for 22 people and she was serving 2 other tables in addition to ours. The service was very slow and the waitress very inattentive. She would disappear for long periods of time. Our bar bill was almost as much as our food bill and would have undoubtedly been higher if the waitress had made herself more available. We did enjoy the food regardless of the poor service.
When the bill arrived, it was hand written showing 5 entries. They were food, bar, tax, gratuity, total. The gratuity was automatically added. It was 20% and that is what I usually tip for good service. However, I do not usually tip on the tax and that is how the server/restaurant figured the total. I was not happy with the overall experience and would never take a large group there again.
One of the best Italian restaurants in STL – Me and my fiance eat here every anniversary every birthday. It is an absolute must we come here. The service is excellent, and I just love coming here. Give it a try if you haven't been.
Love the Chicken Spedini – I'm surprised to read negative reviews here. A friend of mine and I have dinner at Brazie's about once every other month. It is always great. The bread and olive oil with herbs/garlic for dipping. . .YUM. The salad -- I want to buy the dressing so I can make this at home. And I just love the chicken spedini. The atmosphere is pleasant and we've always received excellent service. I highly recommend this place -- one of my favorite restaurants in town.
What happened Brazie’s? – Our recent experience was left in disgust. We could have chosen a number of restaurants to celebrate the New Year but by mistake we chose Brazie’s. It was New Year’s Eve and we had advance reservations (made five days prior) for five people very early in the evening. There were about 4-5 tables occupied when we arrived. I requested a round table and it was declined. We were put in the back room against a large wall with blaring music coming from the terrible low-grade ceiling speakers; wouldn’t it be appropriate for restaurant serving Italian cuisine play that region’s music? It was so uncomfortable that I was elected to try and get us moved. I asked to speak to the manager or owner but was shielded from talking to the on-duty manager and told that a cancellation had just come in and we could move to the front room where there were windows. I again asked for a round table as I could see there were several unoccupied but was declined.
The dining experience: We each ordered shrimp scampi appetizers-- got 4 medium-size at $9.95 per order! The mixed drinks pricing was also outrageous for the volume served. If you are a strawberry daiquiri lover, don’t go to Brazie’s-- they don’t offer them. Dinner was a long wait in which the server offered an apology without being solicited.
The bill: Delivered hand-written and incorrect.
Desert: The Brazie’s experience left us making a decision to leave and have desert somewhere else. The evening was saved because we discovered a great little place that we will frequent often.
Oh, by the way, the unoccupied table in the front room stayed that way the entire duration of our visit-- guess you have to have pull and be friends or family to get a round table at Brazie’s.
GREAT!!!!....AMAZING!!!!....SOO GOOD!!!! – the food is so goooooood the steak makes you want to order 5 more to eat the rest of the week and did I menchion the SALAD.... ITS THE BEST!!!! and the stuff you dip your bread in is delicious....BRAZIES = AMAZING
Nowhere Better!!!!!!!!!!! – Well, I went to Brazie's on a Friday night. I had to wait for awhile for my table, but, other than that, I loved it. The waiter was perfect and so was the food. The bus help wasn't even like bus help- they were like second, third, and fourth servers. Food was hot when it got to the table: the way it's supposed to be. Great ambiance and friendly atmosphere. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Has gone sadly downhill.... – Brazie's used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Saint Louis when it was on Hampton. It was a wonderful little secret. The food was always perfect and the service impeccable.
Sadly, since their move, they have completely changed, and I can no longer recommend them. I brought a group of six on a Saturday evening and we found terribly slow service and food that was mediocre. The fettucine alfredo tasted as if it was made with corn starch and the pasta was way past al dente. Each of my guests had something else and each labeled it 'mediocre at best."
Besides the ridiculously slow service--the waiter kept pulling a vanishing act--when we finally got the bill, we found that the waiter had added exactly $2 to the price of every entree. (Normally, I don't even check the prices, but one of my friends wanted to know what we were paying for such bad food.) When we brought it to the waiters' attention he said that he was in a hurry and had "guessed the prices."
Seriously if you do go, keep an eye on the help.
always great food and service – hands down one of my favorite restaraunts ever. i get steak marsala. i get it cooked medium rare. it is ALWAYS prepared perfectly. there appitisers are great also. try the shrimp brazie and/or fried callamarie. they are both great. they moved recently and i was worried that the prices may be affected, but they were'nt.
for desert try the cosatta cake.
First Time Experience: Yes and No – The chicken spedini was absolutely excellent. So was the Shrimp Brazie. The restaurant is nice. The decor is modern, the lighting is romantic and the table clothes are white, covered with glass. I like this - they get the tables actually clean before you are seated. I have a few negative issues regarding my dining experience there last Saturday evening. I felt as if I second hand smoked two packs of cigarettes while waiting a long time for our table and also through the course of our meal. This is the one factor which may cause me not to return to the retaurant. The bar area is very small and the smoke just bellows out into the front dining area. My pressure was up by the time I left because of all of the smoke I inhaled while trying to enjoy this wonderful food. They need a smoke eater or they need to make it a non smoking facility - then we would return. Also - we had reservations, however - they took forever to seat us and the bus help was rude, initially, when we were being seated as they were still cleaning off the table. Lastly - we were made to wait at least 45 minutes between our salads and our actual meal because of a "back-up" in the kitchen, however, I did notice tables who arrived after us - being served before us. I'm not sure if friends and family are served first before general guests or what. We all pay the same and hopefully tip the same. I wasn't happy with that either - that was not fair. Our waitor, Erin was great and kept us informed of the timing issue. They do pour a nice Chevis on the rocks and their bread dipping oil is excellent. So - in conclusion - if you do not mind second hand smoking 2 packs of cigarettes through a delayed dining experience and rude bus help.....the food is very good and worth the money. I would have given it four stars had it not been for the smoke and wait time.
Great service, great food... – Brazie's is the best restaurant in the City...My husband and I go there alot as our "date" location. Everytime we leave we have to take home food for the kids. They love it! We have taken them before and it is wonderful! Brazie is the best! Always busy in the kitchen but always makes it a point to wave or say hi before we leave! Never had a problem with the restaurant, food or service. New location is bigger.
