I had honestly considered shopping here but after reading all the reviews, both good and bad, I have decided that this is probably not the place for me and I will tell you why.
I have been in Customer Service all of my life and for a business to comment on any post is very unprofessional. "Itsaboutme" obviously works there by the comment they posted. I was always taught that the customer is always right!! To blatantly call out a customer is rude so that makes me believe all the comments about this business that say they are rude and unprofessional.
To Dinstinctions: You have lost a customer before you even had one. WOW
The people my daughter worked with were rude and distrespectful. One of the workers told her she didn't like the dresses on her, and made rude comments about coming with her friends, and treated us like we could not afford the dresses. DO NOT COME HERE.
I special ordered a Jovani dress from Distinctions on Olive. Being the mother of the bride this is a very special dress for a VERY special day. I visited the shop with one of my friends, my daughter (the bride) and my future son-in-law. We carefully selected the color of the dress to compliment the wedding colors. When my dress arrived I was beyond excited to pick it up. Much to my surprise the dress was not the color I ordered. When I expressed my concern I was told by the sales women the dress was a special order so I better love it because it was mine. Well...I hated the color. I called a couple days later and spoke to Bruce who told me to bring the dress back in. When I brought the dress back to the shop they tried to match the color to the swatch, but they could NOT find the same color (again this was not the color of the dress I ordered). My same friend was with me and when she started to comment on the situation, one of the sales women told her it was not her dress so she did not want to talk to her (great customer service). I was told I could reorder the dress in another color or find a dress in the shop. Reordering in my option was out of the question because the wedding was just a few weeks away. I tried on a few dresses that night but even the sales women agreed that none of the dress fit my body style. Since I did not want to reorder and could not find a dress at the shop they would not let me return this $600 dress. I am going to take my business elsewhere where customer service is a priority. I was willing to pay a restocking fee but that was not an option. I will read customer review carefully in the future because given the reviews I have read I would have gone somewhere else. I will never go back to Distinctions.
Don't waste your money!!!
Last year I purchased a La Femme gown (style #17445) from Distinctions in Fashion located in St. Louis, MO. I paid in full $405 for the dress. My daughter wore the gown for 5 hrs. to her high school prom and then we put it away in the bag they provided inside her closet.
She was planning to wear it to a dance and pulled it out on 03/03/2013 to make sure it fits. We immediately noticed the whole dress was faded with blotchy spots here and there. I promptly went back to Distinction and ask them what happened. They said she wore it telling us, “It’s used”, “it has water damage on the bottom”, etc. Matter of fact they were trying everything and anything to put the blame on us. I totally understand my daughter wore the dress but it doesn't explain why the whole outside layer faded. I did ask if the bag caused it and the owner rudely walked away. After some lengthy investigating I found out the bag she provided dry rotted the outside layer. Now I know why she walked away from me. For an upscale specialty dress shop like Distinction the owner knows better and should have informed me about not keeping the dress in the bag. Both owners refused to do anything and pretty much said it’s used, not our problem.
Response to itsaboutme:
WOW!!!! I can't believe you would say that itsaboutme. Oh never mind, of course I would. You know perfectly well we didn't do anything to the dress except store it in the bag you provided in a dark closet. The whole sheer (chiffon) outside material of the dress is faded. You and your husband were trying to come up with everything and anything just so you wouldn't have to deal with it. Instead of trying to help your customer you are calling them a liar.
BTW- I also took the dress to a dry cleaner and they said something is wrong with the material. Regarding the spots on the front, those are from the inconsistent fading where the material touched the bag.
Why wouldn't you send it back to La Femme??? Or give me a contact number??? I have a clear conscience and can pass a lie detector test. Can you?
I'm sorry but you are the ones who should be ashamed of yourselves. You were rude and provide very poor customer service. All you care about is making money and not repeated customers. Why should you because each year you have new customers who want to make their daughter's prom special and spend a lot of money.
.The Truth Be Told! – Zuzana...you should be ashamed of yourself. We took that dress to the cleaners and were told that the person who wore it totally damaged it in some sort of water or maybe the customer tried washing the dress. It had obvious water marks on the bottom and had food stains on the front of the dress. I think you should either apologize to Distinctions or have a "heart to heart" with your daughter to find out what she did before she put it into the plastic bag that we provided to 1500 young ladies when they purchased their dresses for prom. We showed the dress to several of our "prom customers" and they couldn't believe that you would try to blame a store for your mishap. Maybe you should let City Search see the dress before they allow you to embarrass yourself. I will gladly give anyone who believes this "story" your phone number so you can show them the condition of the dress. You should be ashamed of yourself.
NEVER BUY A DRESS FROM HERE.
Horrible customer service. Everyone was rude & not helpful. Only the younger girls were friendly and some what helpful. I tried on a dress I fell in love with but it was very crowded so I walked into the back area to take a picture & look in the mirror back there. An older lady told me if I'm not buying it I need to stand over by everyone else and not walk around in it. Walking around in a dress and making sure you comfortable in it is a big decision factor in the purchase especially when dresses are over $500. But thanks to them I found the dress I want for prom and I got all of the dress info price and size I want so I am going to take that to a store called Special Occasions off of Clayton where I will have them order it for me. Highly recommend everyone go there. Keep up the good work Distinctions your getting other stores sales!!!

Staff was extremely helpful! – I did not know what Distinctions was until this past January. My daughter was looking for prom dresses online, and found one that she loved that was carried at this store. We went to the store and could not find the dress .. she asked an employee about it, who went into the back and came out with the dress. It was so new they hadn't even brought it out yet. My daughter tried it on and fell in love. We ordered the dress and waited for it to come in .. about 2 weeks which was less than what they told us. The dress was beautiful and needed some alterations. The measurements were done very professionally. The alterations were also completed before the expected time. One week before Prom, my daughter tried her dress on and panicked because it did not fit like it did before. We called Distinctions, and the seamstress was not scheduled to be in the store until Thursday, but she came in on a Sunday to take care of my daughter and make sure she was happy. All of the employees at Distinctions have been very accommodating and a pleasure to work with. I would very much recommend this store!
Still In Tears – After waiting 35 minutes my first time at the store, I decided to leave because I wasn't being helped. I returned the next weekend when it wasn't as busy and was belittled. I would've gone somewhere else but this was the only store in town where I could order the dress I wanted. After I said I thought I was a size 4, they measured and stated I was a 6. Without letting me see the size chart or my measurements, they ordered the 6, my mother paid and we left. After spring break I went to pick up my dress. I went the next weekend to my tailor and the dress swallowed me. (I am 17, five foot three inches and 118 pounds with a 32DD bust size). We had to go back to the shop to reorder. They were angry that I needed to reorder and treated me very poorly but it was their fault for ordering the bigger size without my opinion or knowledge of measurements for that dress. They measured again (while moving me around the store half naked), finally showed my measurements and the size chart . I asked for a size 2. I went in with no parent and two friends to pick it up. As I tried to zip it up (side zipper) it wouldn't budge at my rib. The woman repeatedly told me that I was "Way too big and needed the size four". I unzipped the dress and played with the zipper as it was extremely tight and always got stuck in the spot with beading. After she walked in on me topless and opened the door for the rest of the shop to see me half undressed, I was once again called "too big" and was ordered to take off the dress before I ripped it from "bulging too much". I took the dress and went home in tears. The next morning I took it to my tailor and asked what to do. A saleswoman told me it could be taken out up to a half inch. However, they lied and it wasn't able to be taken out more than 1/8 of an inch. My tailor instead rubbed wax and soap on the zipper and after I attempted one last time, the zipper slid right up and it hugged perfectly. I will never return to Distinctions due to the fact that I was ridiculed, talked down to and made to feel that I wasn't worth their time. I would recommend going for quality becuase my dress is stunning, but if customer service is what you're looking for, be prepared to feel bad about yourself. Also, bring a parent if you are a teenager. They are much more friendly with an adult at your side.
Awful Customer Service – This place had the worst customer service my family has had the displeasure of encountering in quite some time. My niece took her prom dress her to get it shortened, because it was too long - everything else fit perfect. They went ahead and took it in and made it about 1.5 sizes too small. My niece was incredibly upset thinking that her first prom was going to be ruined. The staff was unapologetic and blamed her. They reversed what they did, but charged her double and made her pay to fix their mistake. They refused to give her the dress unless she paid $80 for the reversal. Since her prom was the next day, she was forced to pay that much more. Stay away.
Great buying experience – When I visited Distinctions, I had no intentions of purchasing a dress for my son's wedding; however, the owner gave me very personal attention and helped me to choose a dress that is perfect. I had a very different experience than "unbeliever". I found just what I wanted and was the experience was anything but trouble. Give it a chance. I am very glad I did!
