Do not take any jewelry that you value to this business. THEY WILL DESTROY YOUR JEWELRY. Two days after proposing, I took my brand new platinum ring to Gabs etc to have a simple sizing done. After getting the ring back from them my fiance realized that they had severely damaged the pave setting going around the band. The tiny prongs which held the diamonds had been smashed flat and several of the diamonds had been damaged. It appeared as if the jeweler had used pliers on the band and did NOT use a laser (which is required to size platinum). In addition to this, the ring was scratched up and the joint where the ring had been cut was clearly visible. The owner was arrogant, rude and dismissive. When I asked her about the scratches she said "platinum is a soft metal and will scratch." While I expect scratches I do not expect them to be caused by the jeweler on a ring that is brand new. Furthermore, she refused to refund the $60 for the sizing and refused to pay for the repairs. I ended up shipping the ring back to New York to have the jeweler that made the ring repair it. He said that he has personally never seen such a poor job done and was amazed that a jeweler would even try to size platinum without a laser. The repairs cost nearly $600 and had to be done using a multi-million dollar laser machine. Thankfully the ring was restored close to its original state but it will never be exactly the same. Any repair was amazing considering the fine detail that had been destroyed by Gabs etc. We have filed a civil suit against this company and will be recovering the total amount paid for the repairs. If you look below you will see a similar review about this company damaging jewelry and not taking responsibility. Gabs etc thinks that getting sued because of their shoddy work is just part of doing business. They will not be getting away with it this time.
Excellent Service – I needed to have a ring sized and another one repaired. I called another jewelry store before checking the reviews on GAB. The first store said it would take 14 days to size the ring and would cost around $40. I s/w Rose on the phone and she said they could do it in 1 day and for under $15 (price will depend upon the type of sizing you want done). They delivered as promised and the work was excellently done!
BEST EVER – I have been to Gabs. many times and every time they have hade the best selections,pries,and staff.The owner Rose has the best jewerlery store around.Also they do make,repair,and size all their jewelrey I have seen the guy who does it, and he does awsome.Do not forget about their setup of the store is classicly sheek style .I know I will always go there for my jewelery.
Great Local Jewelry store – I recently purchased a new white gold chain necklace from Gabs. Great selection and the staff was very friendly. Went back again to see about upgrading my wedding ring diamond stone. Rose, the owner, and Melissa went out of their way to educate me on the 4 C's of picking out a stone. They had my stone appraised and the next day they had a selection of different stones for me to view. Rose is a professional jeweler who makes sure you are happy when you leave her store! I highly recommend Gabs.
Best Jeweler in Town – I have been a customer of Gabs, etc for a long time and when I read the other reviews on here I could not believe what I read. First of all may I say that the people who have had written that they have had issues with Gabs sounds like the same person being vindictive by creating more than one account and trying to trash this lovely lady’s business. Trust me the owner, Rose, is truly a professional and if there was truly a problem she would have gone out of her way to fix it! I’ve always gotten my repairs within a day. I have shopped at a lot of jewelers and this is the only place that educates you and tells you the truth about jewelry and stones. You can’t beat their prices either. I found the same ring at another jeweler and the price was almost triple what I paid at Gabs. Everyone there is helpful, kind and very knowledge. Reading these other reviews just proves that you can’t believe everything you read.
Great Quality Excellent Customer Service – I am not sure why Gabs got a bad review. I have been buying from Gabs since 2002. I will only go to them. They are very honest and friendly. I have never had a problem. The quality is far more better than the chain stores.
Beware – Please check out any jeweler prior to purchasing their products or services. I learned the hard way... These guys ripped me off on my engagement ring.
Sloppy Craftsmanship & Rude Staff – They say on their website that all work is done in-shop, but I overheard the lady at the counter saying that they "ship off" their rings to be sized by an outside vendor. This would not necessarily be a problem, but my ring setting was returned bent after sizing.
They told me that my ring needed new prongs, but when I saw the completed craftsmanship, the prongs were "patched" and crooked. The whole crown was damaged and required replacement (at another shop).
The lady at the counter offered NO RECOURSE for my complaint and was very rude. She laughed at me, called me "sweetie" and "honey" and told me I was a lying troublemaker.
After my experience I checked their Better Business Bureau report and they have had 3 recent complaints. Too late for me.
Damaged my wedding ring TWICE – As they say "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me." I learned this first-hand.
First, they sized my wedding ring and twisted the setting. Lied to me about the sizing process. Denied that the stone was twisted. After I persisted they fixed the problem.
Three years later I gave them another chance, they lied to me about replacing the prongs and just "retipped" them. When I picked up the ring it looked like someone stepped on it. My beloved wedding ring was crumpled accordion-style and twisted to the left. They offered no resolution and held my ring for ransom until I paid the full bill (in cash only). Their website and store signage clearly shows that they accept credit cards, but they must have known that the credit card companies hold businesses accountable.
I will be taking it to Paul Stuart for restoration. Don't know how much it will cost.
I have reported Gabs to the consumer bureau and their gemstone supplier. Please learn from my misfortune. I believe that most of the other reviews on this site are from employees of Gabs.
Great Service! – I took my Engagement ring in to get it sized on a Tuesday and got it back Wednesday morning....The very next day!!!! They are so fast and friendly. In May I took in my ring to be put in a new setting and it only took them 1 day as well. Rose is great! Thanks for everything!
