Very freindly place to workout. The classes are also awesome.
I wanted to give 0/5 stars, but unfortunately that was not an option.
I signed a year contract with Golds Gym and paid in full at the time I signed up for membership. When my year was up, I stopped going to the gym. I then noticed my credit card was being charged by Gold's Gym for a recurring fee. When I contacted the gym, they told me that they automatically sign people up for recurring payments once their contract is done and that during initial enrollment the member initials this as approval (along with many other things you initial). The man who helped me enroll NEVER told me this would occur, as he should have. I called to have my gym membership cancelled and they told me they would cancel it and reimburse me as long as I emailed the corporate office and explained the situation, which I did. The manager even told me this is often a problem so it should be no issue to be reimbursed. Well, I was never reimbursed and I was charged again on my credit card the next month. I did the same thing where I called, asked to be cancelled and asked to reimbursed, which they said they would do. Again, I was not reimbrused. Another month came along (month 3) and again, I was charged on my credit card. I called, asked to cancel, and again, said they would. Month 4 comes along and my credit card is charged again. When I call the gym, the manager would not return my phone calls or emails. I contacted the credit card company, told them to not accept ANY more charges from Gold's Gym as they were charging my credit card without my approval. I then had my father, who is an attorney, call the Gym and speak with the manager....the same manager who had been choosing to not return phone calls to me. The manager, once faced with an attorney, agreed to reimburse me in full and "supposedly" my membership is actually cancelled. We will see come August whether this is true.
So not only is staff clearly incompetent and acting fraudulently, but they are VERY poor with customer service. Additionally, about half way through my year membership they charged my credit card without notice for "gym upgrades." I would NEVER recommend this gym to anyone and actually would tell everyone to run far, far away to any other fitness center. The gym is disgusting, old, has small box TVs, and cannot seem to keep the same staff around for more than a few months.
Great place to work out – The friendliest cleanest gym i have ever been to
Awsome place to workout – I usually don't writhe reviews but i just had to for this place. For a gym the staff is friendly and they are always updtaeing a club I couldn't ask for a better place to work out.
Great Gym – Nicest gym i've ever been to, the staff is great eddy has been helping me every 2 week since ive signed up 2 months ago and have already lost 15 pounds! I highly recommend this gym to anyone.
Great gym with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. The new free motion equipment is great
Not Impressed! – First of all, I normally don't take the time to write a review on a business. My experience here was so bad I actually wanted to take the time to warn other people to look elsewhere. I'm not even a member, but I was an interested customer considering the possibility of giving my money to this business. You think the people running the business would be somewhat excited to see a new prospect willing to hand over their hard earned dollars to them.
I was, for lack of a better term, "greated" at the door by some guy working the front desk, later I noticed he has a dip of chew in his mouth. mmmm. The conversation went as follows: Rocky Balboa: "What do you need boss!" (boss.... real professional, we're off to a good start)
Me: I'm interested in finding out more about your gym"
Rocky " What do you want to know?"
Me: "Well, I'm interested in becoming a member, what can you tell me?" (I'm basically saying give me your sales pitch and tell me why I should come here)
Rocky " Well, we have everything you need and we're about $30/mo" (Without asking me any questions, not even my name, how would he know what I need. Didn't bother showing me around to prove that to me)
Me: " Do you mind if I look around"
Rocky " Go for it dude, look around" (Dude?)
As I walk around I notice a couple D-bags in tank tops, sizing themselves in the mirror, and appear to have a chip on their shoulder about an outsider in the gym while they're trying to workout. I come back to the front desk.
Me: " Well could you tell me a little more about the membership rates?"
Rocky " It's 30 bucks a month"
Rocky: "Just come back when you're ready. When you're ready you're ready dude."
Final Impression: Meathead gym, with meathead staff that don't know how to communicate with people. If you need a dip after your workout, perhaps you can get one from Rocky at the front desk. I would not want to step foot in this gym, much less pay them a dime to do so.
This business should be ashamed of itself – Forget the facilities (which are not that great), this place is a total scam. They will take your money, and find loopholes in the contract to take more than you would ever imagine. They have directly withdrawn $400 out of my bank account, even after I canceled my membership, via fax, which they require. I have been trying to talk with somebody about the mistake, but each gym directs you to the corporate office, and the corporate office never answers the phone....ever. Management at Merriam location said nobody will ever answer the phone at the corporate office, it wil always just go to voicemail. THEY DON"T CALL BACK. If you are considering this GYM, consider yourself stupid.
Despite its Hollywood connections, this franchise's focus is on pumping iron, not newfangled razzle-dazzle. – In Short
The Terminator and the Incredible Hulk (aka Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno) lifted weights at the gym's Venice, California, flagship years ago, but even today, customers frequenting charter locations are bound to encounter serious muscle. Take note: The boys with bulging biceps are the mascots, not the majority. Gold's generally offers Spinning, aerobics and kickboxing classes, yet weight-training remains the core of the program. Dumbbells and barbells, not spa-like amenities, are the attractions that draw the beef-heads in droves.
great – super place to work out and get information on the techniques of doing a good workout that is best for the individual. clean and up to date equipment
