BAD EXPERIENCE – I just came from Kin Lin.Today was the first time I tried it. Such TERRIBLE service. The female server asked if we needed more time then she never came back. Each time we tried to ask her a question after that she was rude to us. A Middle Eastern male server noticed we were waiting to have our order taken. He came over to take our order. I ordered Chicken With Vegetables. The man said there were better dishes with the same price. He said "Why don't you try our Chicken With Black Bean and if you don't like it I'll bring you the Chicken With Vegetables." I reluctantly agreed. He brought the dish. It was too spicy. He seemed annoyed that I didn't like it. He took it back to the kitchen and returned with the same dish that had been recooked. It still had too much spice. Again he was annoyed. Finally he brought me what I had originally ordered. I also asked him if they had a diet caffiene free drink. He said they had diet Pepsi but nothing without caffiene. My husband and I had to wait forever to get my soda and his silverware. The male server finallly brought me what he said was a "sugar-free" Sierra Mist. It was not sugar-free. It was caffiene free. As we were leaving the woman at the counter asked how everything was. When I explained what had happened she wanted to argue with me. She told me all their black bean sauce was spicy. I tried to tell her I hadn't tried to order it in the first place. I also explained the diet soda issue. She said they had no diet soda. I told her they had diet Dr. Pepper right next to her in the cooler. She acted surprised and annoyed. While I was explaining to her what happened the male server walked over and tried to give us a coupon card that needs a stamp each time you come back. After listening to what I was saying to the woman he started saying how he had cooked a new dish for me. After not getting what I ordered to drink or eat, the rude treatment and not being able to eat my meal with my husband, I handed the coupon card back to the woman and promptly walked out. I will not be back.

Disappointing – I went in to Kin Lin's earlier today to have a quick lunch between my noon-1 and 2-3pm classes expecting delicious food and a comfortable restaurant atmosphere. Unfortunately, they could only partially stood up to my expectations.

I was seated fast enough by a Mexican host (not sure what a Mexican guy is doing hosting for a Chinese restaurant, but hey we all need work, so that's fine), but almost immediately after I was seated, he waited awkwardly at the side of my table and asked me what I wanted. I told him I needed more time to decide, so he quickly left, only to come back some 3 minutes later.

Right away I felt rushed, as if he wanted me to come in, eat, and then hurry and get the hell out of there. I picked the Cashew Chicken from the menu on recommendation from a friend. The food came quickly, which was good, and it tasted so-so. Not the best Chinese I've had. A little bland. Whatever, that's fine, at least it was cheap, fast, and lukewarm.

A problem I had was that when he brought the food, he also brought the check, which says to me that he wants me to leave quickly. It really puts a damper on the meal when you have to worry about your check even before you've started eating. But what bothered me most was that not once did the Mexican man ever come back and ask me how my food was, or if I needed anything. In fact, I ran out of water quickly, and needed a refill, but he was no where to be found, and there wasn't a soft drink fountain like in fast food joints. I ended up finishing quickly (probably to his liking), but not because the food was so good, but rather because between the bad service, mediocre food, and stale atmosphere, Kin Lin's was suddenly the last place I wanted to be. I tipped a single dollar, but that's really just a courtesy. If I had it my way, I would have demanded my money back. I don't think I'm going to go back until the service get's better.

Great Food – Kin Lin has been by the UMKC for over 20 ages, They have great food and always welling to serve with a smile on their faces. They have really cheap lunch specials that is between $5.00- $5.45. My favorite lunch item is the Curry Chicken and the Chicken Shirmp Hunan. The curry chicken has really awesome spicy curry sauce with these french frise looking potatos, onions, and carrots although I usually get it with chicken and the potatos. Those french fries potatos are my favorite it goes well with the sauce!!! THe hunan brown sauce is excellent too, it sure beats all the Chinese resturant around the KCMO areas. My favorite dinner food would have to be the crispy spicy chicken much better than the average general taos chicken. I highly recondmand the place! Its totally worth every peny!! THe only down side is the seating! I wish they had more seats cause I always have to wait on a table! But good food regardless!

Bad Service – The only reason people go to this restaurant, (or I should say a fast food place rather) as someone already put it in one of the reviews is that, its close to the university and nothing else....the service is horrible....I have been seeing it from past 5 years, but majority of the people still seem to have the same opinion about it...that they haven't changed in terms of service....Hope they change at least after reading so many reviews out there without turning a blind eye...giving people what they want, a pleasant experience while dining!

Uncomfortable Atmosphere awkward food – This place is close to campus, so that is the only reason why so many students even bother coming here. Their food all tastes the same. One of the dishes had French Fries in it. They don't care about their customers. They are still in business because college students have nowhere else to get Chinese food.

There is also this awkward Hispanic guy there who made my friends and I really uncomfortable. I hope he doesn't work there anymore. He talked to us as if we were in a gang or something. I tipped him 20% which is more than what he deserved, but he had the nerves to ask for more. I felt like we had to give more for our "protection" money or else he would do something to us or our food if we come there again (we are not coming back EVER).

Ripped me off – A while back, I'd called for some take out, a large order of scallops along with soup & such. (I'd eaten here previously with decent food & no problems.) While I was inside waiting for my order, I heard someone in the kitchen say "No, the scallops is supposed to be a large", but didn't think much of it.

When I got out to my car, I went through my bag and saw they'd given me a VERY tiny carton, so I went back inside. I showed the young woman in the floral sundress behind the register my food & said this was supposed to be a large order. She said "Oh, there's actually just 1size, I know the menu is kind of confusing" and just blew me off.

Well, the menu isn't at all confusing, there are quite clearly different sizes. They evidently just didn't have enough scallops or something & had no problem lying to my face & stealing my money as far as I'm concerned.

(And the kicker was, after all that, the scallops were terrible!)

Best in Price Category – Kin Lin certainly has the best in price category sewed up. Being between Subway and Pizza 51, Kin Lin has sported a lunch menu that gives you the biggest bang-for-your ($5) buck. Their food is hot and tasty. But their fried rice is very plain, with no vegetables and little egg. They also have opted their sweet and sour dishes to have no pineapple? Still very good, but not what I was used to.

The owner will know you by face after your third visit and by name after your fifth. The staff is a big selling point to this Brookside stanchion.

VERY RACISTIC.....THEY WILL DEFINITELY EMBARRASS YOU IF YOU DONT TIP THEM 40% – I hate to go this place...but I dont have an option since I dont have a car. I hate the attitude of the people working here. I hate the waiters since they dont care a bit about their customers. Once i gave my waiter a tip of 2$ for 8$ food and she asked me for more tip before everybody.

There is a Hispanic guy in the restaurent and he is extremely awkward with the gals that come in. He either tries to HANDSHAKE or HUG them. So BEWARE if you are taking your spouse or gal friend.

The whole place is flled with bunch of RACISTIC people who have no respect for their customers.

This was a terrible experience for me, I came to Kin Lin to meet my friends and when I got there I went to go say hi to them. Upon doing this the manager came over and told me to sit down and stop saying hi to my friends. The food was mediocre at best. Terrible experience, I will never go back to that place.

Great place for Vegetarians – It's so hard to find restaurants that cater to Vegetarians...especially chinese restaurants. This place has tons of vegi options and the tofu is cooked perfectly...not soggy or watery. Yum!
