Dollhouses, exact-scale miniatures and Tonka trucks make this mansion-turned-museum a fantastic lesson in make-believe. – The Scene
The 24-room, two-story museum is located in a 1911 mansion at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Older folks will reminisce about days when toys didn't use batteries, let alone microchips.
Built in the late 1800s, these extravagant mini-mansions boast French and German furniture so lush that you'll wish you could shrink and move in. The Coleman House is an especially dramatic spectacle, with an overall height of 9 feet.
The miniature room settings include an American classroom from circa 1900, and a 1765 parlor from the Powel House in Philadelphia. These rooms are replicated to an exact scale. Don't miss the Contemporary Toys Room, where you'll find Tonka and Mattel doodads from 1950 and after.
Great for Kids and Adults! – I really enjoyed coming to this museum. I really made me feel like a kid again, as well as made me feel like what it would have been like to be a kid in different eras. I love seeing how toys and their packages have evolved through the decades.
