Think twice before working here! – Worst work enviornment for assistants!

I really feel sorry for the employees at this establishment; especially the assistants to Tonya (OWNER). It is not very often that you are able to find decent people that you trust and enjoy learning from. This is no exception! Tonya should be absolutely ashamed of her behavior toward her assistants. What a miserable place for them to work and learn! I can't begin to express how below low you can get in dealing with these poor individuals that she is willing to go. They deserve a reasonable work enviornment at the very very least. Unfortunately Tonya is unable to provide that to them. She is so blinded by money that she has lost all respect for the very ones that are making money for her. She better step back and swallow a large dose of reality before it caves in on her pride! If everyone knew the truth they would never visit this salon!!!!!!! The best of luck to her poor employees that continue to give her thier hard earned wages! Still looking for a decent work enviornment ? Think twice! And by the way; I am yet to meet anyone around that has even heard of Tonya Jones?
Bad Service – I was looking for a new nail salon and at first thought this was it! I went in to relax with a manicure and pedicure. I had been given a groupon and thought I would try them out. I will say I enjoyed my pedicure but once my manicure started I couldn't get out fast enough. First off, she butchered my nails by shaping them very Square, I tried to stop her after she did 2 nails and she said she was making them "stylish". I like a more natural look and asked her to fix it, her response was to file them all down to nubs.
Then before she painted I of course paid and when I told her I had a groupon, she sat that and told me that she wish she would have know, because she didn't make as much money with the groupon. I felt horrible and told her I was sorry that I didn't tell her up front, but I didn't know that was import. I assumed all customers would be treated the same. She went on to say that she could tell I was a "typical" customer but the groupon had brought in all "walks of life" as she worded it. I was shocked at her comments. She just went on and on. I wish she would have paid more attention to what she was doing with my nails becuase they looked horrible. I didn't even let them dry, I just left becuase I know I was going straight home to remove her horrible paint job myself. It took me weeks to grow my nails back to a normal looking length.
Awesome! – I have been a client of Tonya's for over four years now, beginning when she was the lead stylist at Richard Joseph. It was a blessing to find her! I have never had a better stylist, including the ones I used in Los Angeles, Newport Beach and Chicago. And, since she opened her own place, I don’t have to pay Richard Joseph prices anymore. Huge bonus!!
I should also mention that I have extremely difficult hair. It’s fine, yet very thick and has a natural wave (read: total nightmare to style) and I’m obsessive about the way it looks. However, since going to Tonya, my hair has never looked better. I receive a crazy number of compliments on the cut, color and how healthy it looks, which, frankly, is quite amazing considering its colored, I blow dry it out every day and even run a flat iron or curling iron through it regularly.
Her new salon is fabulous! Very chic, a convenient location and the staff are knowledgeable and attentive. Any products I need are always in stock and are explained in detail as to how I am to use. Every time I go in there, I find Tonya has made some new change to improve the look or make my experience more enjoyable. She has great vision and I can hardly wait to see what’s new at Tonya Jones’ Salon and Day Spa at my next appointment.
Great place, great new owner – I have been frequenting Jilbere Salon since Tonya Jones moved there from Richard Joseph's in mid-November. I have been extremely pleased with all services I have received (brow wax, color, low lights, haircut, keratin therapy). I have tried many of the stylists because Tonya stays busy and I have to schedule appointments at the last minute due to my busy schedule. The salon is very professional and accommodating. I have enjoyed the unique personalities of the stylists that have worked on my hair and eyebrows. There are a plethora of services to choose from -- manicures, pedicures, waxing, facials, haircuts, treatment masks, beautiful Aveda hair color, and even the Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy!
In regards to the previous review on this page, I am completely shocked. In the time I have known Tonya, she has never been less than 100% professional and customer satisfaction is her number one priority. She has made many positive changes at Jilbere since she became co-owner of the salon, and the staff is ecstatic to have her as their boss. In my opinion, the writer of the previous review has grossly over-exaggerated the condition of her hair. It is also quite amusing that she chose the same service at the other salon that Tonya offered her -- obviously Tonya was quite right in suggesting the gloss and the woman was just being unreasonable. So, if you want to visit a relaxing salon where you can be pampered and taken care, choose the new Tonya Jones SalonSpa (formerly Jilbere).
DON'T! – I scheduled a first time appointment for a partial highlight and a trim. I spoke with the stylist emphasizing that for 2.5 years, I had worked to get away from bleaching and chemical processing as my hair is extremely fragile. I explained that I wanted a few highlights with a couple of heavier chunks around my face.
4.5 hours after she began, I had platinum blonde, bleached and broken hair. At one point she had bleach on my entire head. When I asked her what she was doing, she replied, "just brightening your base." The first time I was in front of a mirror was 4 hours into it and far too late to stop her. Unfortunately, I had gone there with a friend preparing for her wedding. I had no intention of upsetting a bride-to-be by making a scene at that point.
A call and visit with the owner, Tony Jones, the next morning was equally unsatisfying. I was told that the color was "very pretty." Sure, never mind I didn't WANT TO BE BLONDE nor deal with the nightmare of maintaing blonde hair! I was also told it was an "easy fix." Funny, I wasn't aware you could UNbleach hair and put broken hair back together. Neither would she admit that the gloss she offered was only semi-permanent, and I would be working for months to just get back to ground zero. A request for a refund was denied. I was offered further service or a credit. Why on earth would I want a salon that had already ignored my requests and damaged my hair have another crack at my head? I did not.
Thank goodness I ran to Hair Reflections. I had never been there but had heard good things. By complete accident, I bumped into the owner, Rose who agreed to start work two hours early to rescue me. She did just that. Her staff was terrific and she obviously knew exactly what she was doing and understood what I wanted.
Unfortunately, I'm still in the predicament of having to deal with semi-permanent color and much more frequent visits to the salon than I want or can afford. The fiasco has cost me almost $500 with many more expenses in my future and a substantial amount of damage to my hair. My suggestion....go anywhere but to Jilbere's (soon to be Tonya Jones Salon Spa!)
Jilbere Salon - Soon to be: Tonya Jones Salon Spa – I visited the Jilbere Salon yesterday (in the shopping area next to Whole Foods) in Mountain Brook and am ECTATIC about the service, the haircut, the friendliness, the cleanliness, and the professionalism!
I had VERY long hair, and wanted something drastic (going short) so wanted to get this done professionally so my hair looked great for the holidays - - I was THRILLED to discover that Tonya Jones, formerly of Richard Joseph Salon Spa, was now the Owner of Jilbere salon. So I made an appointment with her to get my hair cut...
If you've ever visited Richard Joseph Salon Spa and gotten anything done to your hair, you'll remember the fantastic shampoo'g you get with Aveda products, plus scalp and neck massage. Also wine, etc while you wait... At Jilbere, you get all of this plus great one-on-one customer service, open atmosphere (not cramped like RJ), friendly staff who listen to your ideas (yes, I brought printed photos of what I wanted), and beautiful styling.
It is my understanding that Jilbere Salon will be re-named TONYA JONES SALON SPA, as Tonya has taken ownership effective January 1st. And yes, she will still be styling and cutting hair!
So, for those of you who love Aveda products, Master stylists who've trained around the world, an upscale atmosphere, great customer service, and above all, a PERFECT haircut - then you should make the switch to Jilbere Salon (Tonya Jones Salon Spa) today!
What happened to a great place??? New owners??? – I have used Jilbere Salon for over a year.... all the stylists that I knew were great but are now gone September 09. Also, the salon would not tell me where my favorite one went to... I was not happy but was convinced to use a new employee... he was very nice but did not even consider the photo/example that I brought in.... my hair cut was uneven and layered too short on one side. I was there 3 hours for a wash, cut, & foil... too long in my opinion. I do not recommend using this Salon right now. I have found a great salon close by - Morgan Ashley on hwy 119. Allison & Kim are great!!!!
HORRIBLE – This is not the salon anyone should want to go to. It is very sad because it is very pretty and has a wonderful location. But, the quality of the work and customer service is very poor. The stylist lack talent... There are never the same stylist working there... do not recommend
Best Aveda Salon in Alabama – This place is fabulous. Uses all Aveda products. Very talented and attentive staff and in a great location! Highly recommended.
