Avoid this store. Rude sales people. Overpriced. Rude older woman behind desk. Obviously defensive about their puppies. There is a nice guy on Duval street that has a cart that sells nice items for dogs. Buy from him instead of these awful puppy pushers. BTW, I found out they lie about where their puppies really come from.

2/20/12 A Reminder From the Owner – A customer is someone who has purchased from our store. We have over 1000 testimonials documenting incredibly happy customers noting healthy, happy puppies and wonderful customer service. Quite a few are repeat customers. We will be more than happy to show these testimonials to you. Unfortunately, rarely do happy customers go on the internet and write a review about their puppies. Instead, they send us emails, stories, pictures, call us,etc.

A potential customer is someone who is interested in buying one of our puppies and spends time in our store, over a period of days, Everyone is always courteous and respectful, kind and gentle, happy and satisfied with the service.

An animal activist is someone who comes to our store with no intention of being happy, complimentary, and whose sole purpose is to interrogate, criticize, be rude, bad-mouth and write horrendous slanted and slanderous postings to further their point of view that no one should ever buy, everyone should always adopt.

If complaints listed are about bad customer service, we guarantee that it wasn't about "one question", or one inappropriate remark, but because we draw a line as to how much you can harrass our employees with rude and ugly remarks about how our business should be run. Our puppies are not commercially bred, come from family breeders with children, are pedigreed, registered, vaccinated, microchipped, and are healthy, happy, extremely socialized, playing in the window as a group, and are taken home each night. We receive constant, daily compliments about our store, efforts, and service. Regardless, we can never satisfy an animal activist.

For example, the gentleman "Ted D" who wrote in Jan. 2012, came in one Saturday night with the store filled with people and "announced" to everyone that these puppies were from puppy mills, without asking us, knowing us, in fact, coming from out of town on vacation. When asked to leave, he caused a scene, and told us he was an "important" news reporter and would have all the television crews come to admonish us. He became so dysfunctional for being thrown out of the store, he kept up his harassment for months until we had to report him to his Human Resources dept at his television station in New York and they forced him to stop.

If you come for the sole purpose of harrassing us, you are not a customer and you do not, and will not ever receive customer service.

Raving Lunatic, Avoid at all costs! – Now that I am back home I plan to compile all these complaints plus my own and report this crazy lady to the Key West Police, PETA and the Humane Society. She apparently gets away with verbally assaulting and threatening people on a daily basis because the people ask about the background of the dogs and their treatment.

This store is a definite outlet for puppy mills and the owner is unstable. Please avoid and do not buy a dog when you are hundreds of miles from home. You have no recourse if something goes wrong. See the other stories. And go to a shelter.

This "gentleman" entered our store without knowing us while on vacation, and accused us of having puppy mill dogs in front of our customers. When asked to leave, he stood defiantly as if "make me". He became belligerent and has taken to the internet for relief. Our customers? written testimonials will attest to our story. For animal activists, beautiful healthy puppies raised by families and taken home each night isn't good enough. He wanted to bring his hometown problems into our store.

Thank you Dogs on Duval – My wife and I were down in the Keys for Valentines weekend, when we passed Dogs on Duval. I noticed a little brown fur ball curled up in the middle of six other puppies in the window. I told my wife we needed to go in and look at this ball of fur, for I was sure it was a Pomeranian, and I wanted her to see what a baby POM looked like

Thank You for Our Babies! – My husband and I absolutely LOVE this store and its owners. They have helped us find the appropriate dogs for our needs and life style. Teresa is always super friendly and ready to assist us with any questions we might have. We bought our first puppy from them two years ago, and ever since we couldn't help but going back every time we would be on Duval. My husband fell in love with another Papillon that they had there, and finally he talked me into adopting her. Now we have two beautiful, happy, loving puppies. We haven't had any health or training problems with our puppies from day one. Both have been very well socialized with both people and other dogs. Teresa is such a sweetheart, and she cares for her babies a great deal. She almost cries each time we bring the puppies in. She knows all her dogs' personalities, likes, and dislikes, so she can match you up with your newest family member. Overall, it's been an amazing experience to us!

Beware ! – I am not the only person that this "business woman" has irrationally attacked and screamed swear words at .... On October 28th my family and I were on Duvall street during the evening of the Fantasy Fest activities. A radio station had set up directly outside the front door of Dogs on Duval, and had concert size speakers blasting dance music in the street. That was all fine and good , but Dogs on Duval had a tiny Yorkie puppy trapped in the glass window showcase in the front , and the music was so loud that it was vibrating the glass enclosure. I went in to see what the store had to offer , and saw the puppy, so I asked the woman at the counter if the puppy got to go home with her at night , or if he would have to stay there. She at first was polite and explained that they do take the dogs home with them to play with other puppies and to be socialized and they don't spend the nights alone in the store. I told her that was a good thing. Then I asked her if she thought that the puppy was enjoying the high volume of the music in his glass enclosure. She told me " Oh , he is fine" . I said, well at least he will get to go home with you tonight . I feel sorry for him. Take good care of the little guy . And I walked out . I was niether rude, accusatory, or abusive to this woman. But before I got 10 feet away , she was behind me on the sidewalk and pulled me in to the store next door. This is whan she went Crazy! She was screaming at me that I didn't know anything about her or her store, and I should go to work for the Humane Society , the Humane Society is a Farce, and it's non of my business what her store does... I asked her "why are you screaming at me ? I have not , and am not screaming at you ? " She told me , because I can't hear over the music ! So I said, Really ? But you just told me that the puppy in that is sitting in front of the speakers is " just fine" ..?

I also pointed out that it IS my job, and Every citizens job to be sure that animals are treated appropriately . She then proceeded to call me a Bitch in every other phrase she spewed at me, and after she found that I was not threatened by her Craziness , she left that store and walked down the sidewalk to her shop , STILL calling me a Bitch over and over . All because I asked her if the puppy would be ok with all of that noise ... I am sure that the shop owner next door was thrilled to have this specatcle taking place in her store !

Well, I am certain that this store has sold some very nice dogs , and I was even certain that the dogs they have for sale were treated better than most dogs in shops, but I am concerned that she let herself get SO out of control, So quickly. This woman is in a delicate business, and I am sure that they get questions all the time, and I am sure that it gets tiring. However, if you are doing the right thing, all of the time, you should have no problem answering peoples questions and concerns. You should also be able to keep an open mind, that perhaps someone may have a suggestion that could be helpful. Keeping that puppy in that vibrating and loud environment that night was wrong. And I think she knew that , even though I did not accuse her of any wrong doing, or attack her or her business, something set her off. That is usually caused by some sort of internal guilt over the situation. Whatever the reason, I don't believe that this woman should be in business of any sort. And I feel that folks should take these type of stories and reviews into consideration before doing business with a place that allows this type of craziness to occur. There are many more web pages that have reviews spelling out her Ugly, irratic behavior. I find it Amazing actually , just Amazing.

Thank God the Business next door witnessed this event. Animal activists are accusatory when they come to the store; sweet in their online description of their "experience" with us. No matter that we use family breeders, no cages and train our puppies at home. Be polite & we will show you notebooks of happy customers. Don?t come, accuse us that the music outside our store is too loud for the puppies and shouldn?t be in the store. Please help the abused animals in the shelters instead.

Best Puppy Experience Ever!!!! Wonderful Store A+++ – My boyfriend and I just visited Key West for a mini vacation and found the most wonderful pet store - Dogs on Duval. We had been looking for an English Bulldog for the previous 6-7 weeks and were so excited to see the most amazing male bulldog puppy we had yet to see. Upon entering the store we were very happy to see how well cared for the dogs were, that only truly serious buyers were able to handle the dogs (puppies are so sensitive and prone to picking up sickness that this is a must have policy for good health) and that the nurturing and training the puppies were receiving was top notch. After 4 visits in 24 hours we made our decision to not only leave Key West with amazing vacation memories but a new addition to our family.

Our English Bulldog is named Hemingway, is super healthy and happy, has an impeccable breeding line and has the best personality I’ve seen in a puppy. When we travel back to Key West we will be stopping in to visit our new favorite dog store and bringing Hemingway back to visit as well.

For those of you that encourage adoption we believe in that as well and have a rescue dog in our family. But for us the ability to bring a new puppy into our family with the caring and nurturing that Hemingway was given was an amazing experience. Thank you to everyone at the Dogs on Duval family and staff. We will be sending pictures of our new baby and updating you on his status as he grows and develops.

Dear Reader: Animal activists will say anything. They all have one agenda: to come into our store, accuse, interrogate, bad-mouth us, disrespect, behave rudely and then write anything they want on the internet. Thank God we have over a thousand wonderful testimonials we can look at each night instead of the postings we see on these sites. Come in, 'we'll share all these with you.

WANT TO BE THROWN OUT OF A STORE FOR ASKING A QUESTION? – I cannot believe that this psycho employee (middle aged woman who works as a manager or employee) can justify keeping her store open after all of the people she has thrown out!!! Today I was the latest casualty, and was kind of happy to know I have been in good company--judging by all of the comments below.

Earlier in the day, I saw the puppies (who do not look more than 6 wks old--their ages are not marked in plain view) in the window and came into the store to see what items the store was selling, and perhaps purchase some accessories. Anyhow, when I got to the counter, I pleasantly asked whether the store follows up on its puppy purchasers. After all, these are vacationing tourists, who may be impulsive about making a buy before getting on a plane (they specialize in making all of this work, apparently), and all that the store may have to go on is the vast sums they are willing to spend (between 1000 for the teacup mixes to nearly 2000 (for the French bulldog). I work in animal rescue in my spare time, and my group spends countless hours doing personal checks/home visits, applications on wonderful adopters of our dogs who been neglected, abused, or surrendered because they have lost their "cuteness" because they are over "puppy store" age.

Anyhow, the woman pulls out her binder, and I thought she was going to say, "of course, look at the great people who have sent in photos and stories of their dogs". Instead, she does this huge exhale and proceeds to scream on top of her lungs (so loud that people outside could hear), "listen, who the hell are you to have the nerve to come into my store and ask me this kind of sh**? YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ON ME, DO YOU HEAR?" Before I could explain myself, she screams, "Get the hell out of here! I don't need a customer like you, if you are going to have the nerve asking me this kind of question whether I follow up on the people who buy these dogs!"

I was flabberghasted. If this woman isn't hiding anything, then her defensiveness is related to other animal lovers who apparently are concerned with the current state of affairs on abusive dog owners or puppy mill purchasers, and asking about the "puppies in the window". They don't know this woman from Adam, and are asking a simple question! If this woman were not so crazy, she would have answered the question in a simple, low keyed way--LIKE MOST OF THE WONDERFUL KEY WEST STORE OWNERS OR EMPLOYEES!!

I find it amusing that the employee below said that people were very rude when coming into the store. Well, you have it all wrong. Everyone, including me, have been nothing but inquisitive consumers, and have been literally verbally abused by this certifiable wonder.

Maybe the owner should "sell" these dogs in the paper, because the customer service-even to a mere inquirer-is APPALLING!!!!

Moral is...I don't care how well this woman supposedly treats her animals. There are so many reasons not to support a store like this..not the least of which is because of the verbal abuse you will encounter if you open your mouth to do anything but make a huge costly purchase on a pet store puppy.

PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THIS STORE!!! – My friends and I were walking down Duval Street and decided to stop in this past weekend while visiting Key West because the puppies were so cute. When I went in, I saw a written statement that was posted on the side of the bin where the puppies were kept. The statement said that the puppies were all from local breeders, pure bred, AKC registered, and usually sold to vacationers. It also said that the store will go to any length to help the puppies get through all travel requirements with airlines (or any other type of transportation) to get the dogs to your home. Finally, the sign ended with, "THESE ARE NOT PUPPY MILL DOGS." I was standing there with my friends and said to one that I didn't believe they were not puppy mill dogs. The owner overheard my comment and then proceeded to yell at me in the store about how I had no right to assume anything her store, dogs, etc. She asked me who I thought I was to say that they weren't puppy mill dogs when I didn't know her. She made a huge and uncomfortable scene with many other people in the store. I told her that I was a vegan and animal lover and know that many dogs sold in pet stores are from puppy mills even though almost all pet store owners say that they use local breeders. She then told me that if I didn't like her store, I should get out.

The bottom line is this: whether a breeder is local or in Missouri, if a female dog is forced to constantly be pregnant in order to breed pure bred dogs that are they sold for a huge profit, then that is morally wrong and a puppy mill! Because of the owner's extremely inappropriate and unprofessional reaction, I feel even more strongly that she only has interest in earning money from exploiting dogs rather than truly caring about the welfare of the animal. Forcing a dog to breed litters of puppies again and again, whether you know the breeder personally or not, is inhumane. Even worse is encouraging visitors, who often times act impulsively while on vacation, to buy a dog for thousands of dollars when it's impossible to see what type of environment the puppy will live in. I would like to know how many of these impulsive purchases have resulted in the pet owners dropping the dog off at a shelter after realizing that owning a dog is a huge responsibility.

So again, please do not support this store! Instead, please support local rescue organizations that truly care about the welfare of each dog. The website PetFinder is a wonderful resource to find the exact dog that you want (I rescued my dog by using PetFinder) without supporting the rude and greedy owner of this store.
