Terrible customer service – My 4 bridesmaids and I walked into Silver lining only to be greeted with a simple "Hello." and nothing more by the three women standing up front. I told the associate that I was for looking for a wedding dress and she said "ok help yourself to the racks, we are having a sale." She and the other 2 associates did absolutely nothing to help me look. My friends and I have never been dress shopping before and we didn't know where to start. We took our time browsing through the racks of sale and full priced gowns, and we were only approached for the woman to take the selections to the dressing rooms. When I was trying on the gowns, the associate stood outside the room until I put the gown on and she helped me tie/button/zip it up. She, along with the other 2 women, walked around and spoke to each other without again offering suggestions or bringing any other selections to me. We walked out very unhappy and displeased at our first experience at wedding dress shopping. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone who wants a more one on one with an associate.
Response to revew below – For some reason I was unable to post this as a "comment" to the previous review. Here is my response:
1. Pronovias gowns take 5-6 months to arrive, yours was here in 3.
2. The smallest size they make in your gown is a size 4, and they do not offer custom sizing.
3. All gowns are left in original packaging whenever possible to ensure authenticity.
4. The morning you came in, my staff had not yet arrived for the day. I had several customers and several phone calls to attend to. I'm sorry if you felt slighted, but I did my best to accomodate everyone.
5. If your alterations are $600, I suggest finding a different seamstress. The work being done on your dress is neither extensive nor difficult. They are routine alterations that seamstresses perform on 99% of bridal gowns.
6. Pronovias builds in the bustier for you. I looked for one in your size, but we do not carry sizes under a 32" band because they are not common. I did suggest a specialty bra store for you, though.
7. It is not common practice to give "updates" on gown orders. The designers don't give us any additional information to pass along, other than the expected delivery date.
I hope this clears up your misuderstanding. Have a beautiful wedding!
Horrible Customer Service! – After a full day of shopping around to find the perfect dress I finally found it at the last store I was planning on going to that day.
I had been referred to the store by two other brides who happen to be friends of mine, so I checked it out. When I first walked in, I was not greeted so I started looking around alone. After about ten minutes an older lady ( the owners mom) asked me what I was looking for. I explained to her what kind of gown I had in mind and she kept on pulling dresses that were not even close to what I was explaining. I asked her if I could just look on my own instead, then I finally just found the one I liked in the window.
I asked to try it on and she hands it to me, doesn't help me in the dress at all. After I decided that I liked the dress, the owner shouts from the desk that I would need a size four... she didn't even take any measurements! I asked her at the time are you sure because I typically wear a size 0. She looked at me like I was crazy for even questioning her. So I ordered the dress paid half down and was on my way.
Months have gone by and I haven't heard any updates as far as when the dress was going to be available. I call and call but I kept on getting the same answer, it's in New York and we can't rush it. I ordered the dress in February and didn't receive it until late May. My wedding is less than a month away.
I finally went to go pick the dress up and the owner is late opening the store. I gave her a second to get her stuff together. A gentleman was at the counter had asked if he could help us with anything and we told him that I was here to pick up and try on my gown. He then disappears for a few minutes then grabs my gown. It was still in the UPS box in a bag folded. It hadn't been pressed or anything! I go to try it on and I wanted to try it on with a bustier. Meanwhile the guy is flustered trying to find one in my size but clearly didn't know what he was doing ,so he said to wait for Michelle ( the owner) and she will come help me.
At this point another bride walks in and she still hasn't paid any attention to me whatsoever. She takes the other bride to the back where I was, so I asked her if I could get the bustier she said I didn't need one the dress has a built in push up.
Anyways I finally go to try the dress on and she is no where in sight even though she was the one supposed to help me into it. My mom ends up helping me in the dress and when I came out the dress was 2 sizes too big! My mom was the one that had to put the binder clips on me and help me hold the dress and walk to the mirror. I stood side by side with another bride for a good 30- 40 minutes and she paid NO attention to me whatsoever.
Now I'm not the type of girl that needs to be told how pretty I look and have someone hold my hand; however, I was not sure what to do next and she was off in her own little world on the phone and helping other customers that came in after I did.
The problem I'm having is, I work in the bridal industry and if I had acted the way they did to me I would be fired in a second! It was a horrible experience and the only good to come out of it was I did find the right dress.
You truly are to them just a walking dollar sign. Ladies if your looking for helpful people look again. I would not recommend this place to anyone!
Now I have to pay $600 in alterations for a gown that should have came in correctly the first time.
Needless to say I was very disappointed. You can't treat people like that especially when it has to do with one of the most special days in their lives.
They saved my day too – I ordered my wedding dress from the now defunt "Tres Fabu". They gave me 7 weeks notice to find a new dress, but my dress was by Pronovias and they take a long time to get. Michelle was amazing! She was able to negotiate with Pronovias to get my dress on time. My wedding day was perfect thanks to her and The Silver Lining. I don't want to sound cliche, but they really were my "Silver Lining". Thanks ladies!!!! You saved the day~~~
After being kicked out of Ania ON MY WEDDING day (because 10am appt's had arrived and $$ signs were their top priority) I walked to Silver Lining.
My ORIGINAL wedding dress was purchased through Ania and it was RUINED by their promises and ALTERATIONS people.(SEE MY REVIEW OF ANIA)
I frantically went into Silver Lining and they promptly helped me find a WHITE dress that fit...it fit perfectly.
They steamed it, bustled it quickly and added cups in about 45 MINUTES.
They saved the day!
They also gave it to me at a discounted price because she knew it was my SECOND dress.
This was my second trip to the shop. The first time was great as well. They helped me try on MANY dresses. I almost bought my dress there and I wish I would have the FIRST time...
Best place in Portland to find a Wedding Gown – I found the Silver Lining online because I really wanted a dress by Pronovias and there weren't very many options here in Portland. It was the first store I went to in my search for a bridal gown and it was right after they'd moved to their new location. I thought the store was breathtaking, with all their dresses on display and with ample space to move.
I appreciated this place even more when I went to other stores and all the dresses were inside plastic bags and so packed together that you couldn't see what they looked like.
Someone here mentioned that the sales person is cold and barges in on you w/o even knocking. I totally had a different experience AND if we're being completely literal, the dressing rooms have curtains so there is no place to knock. I've been to the store SEVERAL times and NEVER has she come into my dressing room w/o asking me first if it is OK.
Regarding the comment that she's cold, I honestly think that she's just a little bit shy and she's not drooling over you for a commission (unlike other sales people). She knows what she's doing and lets you browse in peace.
Once I made a decision that the dress I wanted was the one at The Silver Lining, I went to them and they knew exactly how to work with the manufacturer and how long it would take for the dress to come in. It was a very simple process, the dress arrived early and I wasn't worrying at the last minute if the dress would get to me in time to get alterations!
They not only have beautiful dresses but very nice accessories as well, I ended up purchasing a beautiful antique pin to add some 'bling' to my dress and it looks absolutely gorgeous.
I would recommend a couple of things to brides: don't get your gown with a custom length, you'll most likely have to get it hemmed. I made the mistake of ordering a custom-length on my dress and I still had to get it hemmed because it was a bit too long. (This means I had to pay twice! $$)
Even though I completely recommend The Silver Lining to any bride (I couldn't be happier with my experience with them), I warn you NOT to use the recommended seamstress called Mimi. I made the horrible mistake of hiring her (she DOES NOT work for The Silver Lining) and it was one COMPLETE disaster. She pinned my dress only on one side so the bodice had weird lumps and the zipper was on so tight that I took a breath later and a button went flying.
Unfortunately, I didn't see these little things when I picked it up (I was alone) and it wasn't until I tried on the dress at home that several things for my attention (for the worse).
I had to hire someone else at the last minute to fix all the mistakes on my dress. Luckily I found a wonderful seamstress called Tatyana - please read through my other reviews to get more information on her - who worked some of her magic.
DON'T GO!!!!! – If you make the mistake of buying your dress here your in for it!!! First, they do anything to make a sale, your just a $ walking in there. The lady who did my fitting is cold and doesn't listen to what you're looking for. She didn't help me with any of the dresses I tried on, she barged in on me before knocking, and she seems to have no idea what she's doing...p.s. she's the owners mother.
They are very short and rude on the phone and they seem to work whatever hours they want to and they over charge for everything!!! Once you find your dress I guarantee you will find the same one somewhere else cheaper.
P.S. I'm only giving one star because you have to, if I could I would give no stars!
