Don't waste your money, salon dirty, no customer care – Having moved from Europe & my wonderful hairdresser, I carefully reviewed hair salons in Albuquerque before finally choosing Mark Pardo hairsalon on Coors bypass due to their association with Aveda & the training that their stylists are suppose to get. How I regretted my decision. The front of the salon seems high end as does the prices they charge. However, when taken to the hair salon how different it was. I asked for an experience hairstylist, not a junior but someone that had experience with curly hair as I am fedup going to hairdressers who cut my hair as if it were straight. I also wanted my hair coloured. For this I was charged $144 plus taxes. Now I do no mind paying this amount of money for a good cut and colour which leaves you feeling great. But I was left with badly cut curly hair which I now will have to go somewhere else to rectify. The stylist cut my hair straight across at the bottom and as anyone with curly hair knows this leaves your hair looking like a bush without any style. I specifically asked for long layers to get a nice shape to my hair. I should have heeded the warning signs when I booked my appointment. Booked Wed evening and got a saturday lunchtime appointment no bother. The alarm bells should have been ringing when this happened. What good salon can give you a sat appointment with two days notice! Obviously the women of Albuquerque have been voting with their feet and are not going to this salon. On arriving sat this was clarified when there was only two other people in the salon ahead of me. One lady getting a colour and a child getting their hair cut. I was left standing in reception for 10 minutes while the receptionist was dealing with another customer. There is no room to sit so if you have someone ahead of you, you are just left standing there. Once attended to the receptionist asked if I would like a tea or coffee and when I said coffee took off without saying anything. Was I suppose to follow or would they come back with the coffee? Decided to follow and coffee was left on counter and told to help myself to milk, cream etc & off went the receptionist. Was not offered a seat, magazine etc was not told someone would be with me soon, nothing, just left standing there. Stylist was with me soon after sweaping up hair at her work station from previous client. The stylists on either side of where I sat didn't bother to clean up after their last clients. Chair on right was empty of clients but on it was dirty towel & magazine with hair on floor all around it. On the counter in front was the dirty cup I am presuming from last client. On my left again there was hair under the chair & hair dye all over the counter in front & the dirtiest hairdyer that I have ever seen. This stylist proceeded to cut a client's hair without sweaping up the hair that was cut from previous client. I was also surprised that my stylist and the one beside me had their hats and gloves on the counter as well. Coming from Europe I can honestly say this salon was the most unhygienic I have visited. When I was getting the colour washed from my hair I could see that there was a pile of hair on the mat by the back door. This was not a pretty sight. There was a white bin that I saw out on the corner of my eye stained all over. At this stage all I wanted to do was escape out of the salon as fast as I could as my stomack was turning. My colour was ok, it did what it was suppose to do, cover my greys. Terribly dissapointed when my cut as specified above & also the lack of customer care. And disgusted by the lack of cleanliness. I normally do not write reviews but felt that I should warn others not to waste their hard earned money here. I was in Walmart and had a peek at the hair salon there and it was spotless and I bet doesn't charge the prices that this salon does. Can anyone recommend a stylist that is good with curly hair in Albuquerque/Rio Rancho?
You will love this beautiful salon! – I scheduled services for a facial and haircut. This place is gorgeous and the facialists and hair stylists are great. I saw Angel for my facial & Monique for my cut and will be back in a couple of months to see them again!
I also peeked inside the pedicure area, which looked awesome and was hoping to get one of those too, but it seemed like they were limited on times or something, Maybe next time.
Overall I was very impressed and I took home some skin products and am now a huge fan of Aveda.
