Nice shop, a little Tibet in Minneapolis – Nice shop! This store is run by Tibetans, people who are themselves Buddhists (a former monk, a nun) and they care about authenticity and showcasing their home country of Tibet. Many items are old, rare and, by a posted St. Paul newspaper article, most of the Tibetan furniture in the shop was part of a Smithsonian exhibit. So the level of merchandise is higher than what you commonly find at Global Market or Farmers Market. If you want a special gift or rare item steeped in an old Himalayan culture, a carpet or a wooden bowl or a bronze buddha, this is the place. It's almost like a museum. Sometimes things are missing price tags ---inconvenient! But there are deals here. New things, too, so you can walk away with a trinket or new shirt for a few dollars or maybe a real antique from Tibet. No "pseudo Buddhist commodities" in sight, as the negative review person says. (It sounds like he took something old & wooden home, broke it himself, and then got mad when he couldn't get his money back. Really???)
Poor Value, Worse Service – Perhaps the most expensive Twin Cities store for Tibetan and pseudo-Buddhist commodities, this might also be the least reliable. Be particularly careful of anything wooden. The store apparently doesn't care for their merchandise well, and the wood is likely to break. Returns/exchanges of defective merchandise are, I learned, not accepted.
