Curves Should Be Very Ashamed – Well I'm a little heartened by the fact that I join the many women who are enraged by the treatment of CURVES. I felt like I was the "BIGGEST LOSER" !!! I joined because, although I have a very physical job, I needed to strengthen different parts of my body. I only visited 4 times and realized that the workout was very bad for my back. I learned that I have degenrate disc desease in my lower back and could not possibly continue. I told them this and gave them a note and figured at the end of the year that would be that!!! I did not read the fine print on the contract and because I put the whole idea of CURVES behind me I didn't see the money coming out (they made sure to take it out on different days of the month so it would be less recognizable, extremely slimy.) I did NOT receive ONE phone call telling me that they were continuing to reap the money out of my account every month for TWO YEARS!!! NOT one phone call. Human decency does not prevail with these theives. Although it feels better to share my story, I still feel bad for the others that are going to fall into the same trap! Most of us being middle aged and older, CURVES should be very ashamed. Is this going to go anywhere?? Is there something that can be done about this? Please tell me something is going to be done!! Help other to avoid this CURVE BALL they are so obviously throwing at us???
A Very Expensive Lesson in Not Trusting People – I feel very manipulated and seriously taken advantage of by Curves on Postal Way in Carolina Forest.
When I joined Curves, I was very excited because this was the first time I belonged to a gym. I signed a One Year Contract and honored it. I went 5 days a week in the mornings and loved it. Unfortunately, due to work schedule and my childrens activities, I chose not to renew my contract.
Two weeks before my year was up I explained to the employees I would not renew. They were disappointed and tried to talk me into staying. I laughed and said thank you but I have made up my mind.
Finally, the two weeks were up. I said my goodbyes and thanked everyone. I wish I could say this was the end of it. It has been two years since I worked out with Curves and completed my One Year Contract. The other day I received a phone call from a very nice lady from Curves informing me they were still deducting from my checking account- even though my file had been sent to archives.
I never noticed the $37.00 fee coming out.
I spoke with the owner of Curves in Carolina Forest which was extremly rude. She explained to me that Curves did not except verbal cancellations only hand written. I told her that her employees had not told me this when I left. She rudely informed me that they did not have to tell me that - because it clearly stated it on the contract.
I asked to see a copy of the contract and she was correct. It did say that.
I feel very manipulated and seriously taken advantage of- this was once a happy and memorable experience- but now it has turned into a very expensive lesson.
$37.00 over a two year period is $888.00 I am not a wealthy person so this money is a huge loss for me and my family.
I have become a much better book keeper from this and hope that I have helped someone by telling my story.
Formal Complaint Against Curves – I am writing this letter as a formal complaint, and a demand that Curves of Carolina Forest repay my banking account for monies erroneously removed from my banking account, after notifying that establishment that I was ending my membership there. That notification was made in October of 2008, at which time Curves agreed to stop the automatic debits from my checking account. Well, that never happened. They continued to debit my account, and I was forced to send a certified letter to their establishment, requesting a refund. Four payments were deducted without my approval, and the owner of the business never responded to messages or correspondence. In addition, I have driven to their site several times, and spoke with representatives who apologized to me for not being treated fairly and professionally. The debits stopped for a few months, and then out of nowhere, another debit to my checking account was made by Curves of Carolina Forest in May 2009. I would advise anyone interested in possibly obtaining a membership from that organization not to do so.
Not worth the headaches! – First of all, I have to say that this spa is not a good value for your money. The gym around the corner is about the same price and offers many more pieces of equipment, better hours, actual fitness programs and reps who are certified athletic trainers -- not glorified salespeople.
Second, Curves will not allow you to join unless you give them access to your checking account or charge card information. I'm a trusting soul by nature so I entrusted them with this info. Big mistake. I completed my one-year contract, a year went by, and suddenly I'm seeing charges from them posted to my account again.
Curves should be run out of town on a rail!
Slimy Ethics – Not only did I not find the workout helpful for losing weight, the staff went back after 2 years and started charging my account again. Seems pretty slimy to me.
Scam Artists! – They won't stop charging me the monthly fee, and won't let me cancel until I speak to the owner, but the owner is NEVER around. I've been trying to reach her for weeks and weeks! I have placed DOZENS of calls to the office in search of the owner, only to be told, "she's not here and I don't know when she WILL be here." When I asked the rep there to help, she became very rude and started blaming ME for not being able to contact the owner. She said, "It's your responsibility to track her down". I have a job, a family, a life outside of trying to track down a woman who obviously doesn't want to be found. In the meantime, the money keeps flowing out of my account and into the owner's pocket.
After reading the accounts of the other two people who posted here, at least I know I'm not alone!
Shysters and Crooks! – Do NOT -- under any circumstances -- trust these people with your credit card/checking account information. I have been fighting with these people for MONTHS for charges to my account which I did not authorize! They are unscrupulous crooks and shysters!
Beware of Shady Business Practices – My 19-year-old daughter was strong-armed into signed up for a one-year membership. Upon reflection, she decided she had made a mistake but they would not let her rescind the contract. Beware of the pushy representatives at this place!
After the one year was up, Curves continued to dip into her checking account. She left messages, spoke with two different representatives there, and still could not get them to cancel the membership. Finally, my daughter went in to give a statement in writing that she wanted to cancel the contract. They had her write it on a blank piece of paper. Apparently they have no official cancellation forms. When she asked for a copy, she was told, "We don't have a copy machine". When she asked for a cancellation number -- so she could dispute the charges with her bank -- she was told "we don't give cancellation numbers."
I have read numerous accounts of former Curves members who state that these monthly charges go on and on and on... The only way we can make sure no more charges are posted is to have my daughter close her checking account.
