Our room and the facility were very clean. I saw tons of personnel always walking around with brooms and picking up. Plenty of staff to help with towels and our other needs. We arrived very late, around midnight after driving in from Austin. The lady at the desk was pleasant and she was helpful with all my questions (very different than in the reviews I read). We got to our room very quickly and the elevator worked perfectly. The next morning, the beach was right across the street with easy access since there is a traffic light right at the corner of the hotel. We had a great stay.
It is an older building but very clean and kept up. Rooms were nice, decent size, and the employees were wonderful! We had a room in the second floor and when we arrived they offered us a room on the top (4th) floor if we wanted it. Even told is which one had the best view!
the location is perfect !! Walking distance to a lot of eating places!
In the middle of sea wall blvd so everything is easy to access!
Hotel is on a superb location. All room's balcony open to the sea, panorama is too good. I've paid $90/night for king size room.
My choice was room on 4rth floor, room was superb
Overall it was good experience to stay.
We were on the first floor so our patio door went right out to the pool area. It was great to come back from a long day on the strand, go outside and watch the bikes and waves go by. The room was very clean and spacious. I loved the brick wall in the room. It gave it so much character. The hotel is older than some, but it was clean and you can't beat the views. The front desk staff was friendly and attentive. In my opinion you can't find a better spot on the seawall. There were several restaurants nearby and a convenience store was in walking distance. The hotel will provide you a refrigerator in your room if you request it free of charge. This is a great place for the price!
We booked the family room on the second floor and I was extremely happy and very pleasantly suprised especially after reading poor reviews. Our room was huge! It slept 8 grown adults very comfortably (3 queen beds and a full size sofa sleeper), plus a living room area with TV and plenty of storage for our luggage. The bathroom was huge, plenty of towels, cold A/C and the big bonus, our private balcony which was enormous! The other rooms have smaller balconies, but that's because they are usually just one or two beds. But every room in the place has a gulf view. It was beautiful. The pool was wonderful and very clean.
For the price and location this hotel is the best place to stay for family, kids, and beach goers. Just walk across the street and there is the beach. The pool was great and the rooms where excellent. I stayed on the second floor the first night and the second night we stayed on the third floor. We only were supposed to stay one night but since we were enjoying our visit so much we decided to stay another night and the hotel manager was able to get us another room that wasn’t booked. If you have kids/ grand kids and want them to experience the beach, this hotel is the one. This hotel is older than most and still has style and character. Great place to stay!
I will admit I was a little upset when we checked in after reserving a specific room and it wasn't available when we got there. What good is it to reserve if your not gonna get what you asked for..I have found after coming to Galveston for many many yrs.i still come back to the Commodore...My room has ALWAYS been very clean...I'm a nurse I know clean....My bed has always been comfortable...view is awesome...The older gray headed man at desk could stand to be a little more friendy....The maid service was excellent and very friendly...The location is great...Joe's Crab Shack next door Gaido's ,Ihop...Lots so close by....Beach and jetty across street.... Love the Commodore....
Our Family has been going to Galveston for forty years and even stayed at the Commordore. When we heard that the hotel had been totally remodeled since Hurricane Ike; liked the Gulf side rooms; and liked the convenience to restaurants along the Seawall, we decided to make it a wonderful weekend and enjoy Dickens on the Strand. We arrived the night of December 6, 2013. We should have left soon after we arrived.
The heating unit whistled. When my professional electrical engineer husband checked the unit mounted in the ceiling, he be came concerned about the potential for a fire. When I tried to plug in my cell phone charger, the outlet sparked. When I tried to turn on the TV, it would not come on. I jiggled the TV electrical plug and the TV came on. Though I was concerned, the extremely cold and windy weather, the six hour ride and the late hour of the night made me reluctant to go searching for another hotel.
Though the heating unit was on 90, the room was chilly and the bathroom had no heating vent. The bathroom was like a refrigerator. The final straw that made us leave was NO HOT WATER in the morning. We quickly packed up and left.
The desk person said the room never had any hot water. The desk clerk would not refund the second night's stay.
What an experience: no heat, fire hazards, no hot water, and a clerk who said he could not refund the second night. We called before booking and the clerk told us the hotel had been totally remodeled. That was a partial truth. The electrical and plumbing had not been redone. They put some visual lipstick on the rooms and the lobby! Overall a bad experience!!!!!
The whole staff is VERY nice, and the place is kept very very clean. I never once saw a roach, and the swimming pool was WONDERFUL! The rooms are not fancy, but that isn't why we went to Galveston in the first place. The beds did not sagg, and my kids enjoyed the continental breakfast. If you're looking for posh surroundings, you might want to keep looking. But, if you are on a budget and fancy isn't on your list, I would say this hotel will work just fine! Oh...and when they say across the street from the beach, they aren't kidding! There is a traffic light right outside the hotel, and the view is really beautiful! We had a great time!
We have stayed at this hotel many, many times. It is right across the street from the beach and in walking distance to a few good restaurants, Murdoch's and the Pleasure Pier. It is pretty basic, but, comfortable and clean. The balcony is a plus to watch the beach fun and traffic going up and down the seawall.
